I’ve noticed that things have been a little off lately. Hold on, before you even think anything, let me prove it to you. Look at this lamp. It’s your standard run-of-the-mill desk lamp right? It has the lamp shade and everything. But that’s the thing, I never bought that lamp. I don’t even own a lamp in a room! It just appeared there today! And now, look over here. My bed is right there, looks pretty normal right? Oak wooden frame, my shoe boxes underneath… red comforter and sheets. Now, I probably sound crazy, but here's the t...

The artificial overhead lights flickered above. Darkness engulfed the room, then a flash lit it up soon after. I looked around the shelves strewn across the old pharmacy building. I picked up a bag of candy but threw it immediately on the ground when a spider started crawling on my hand. I kept walking. There was a clearing in front of me. No shelves, just open space. In the middle was a metal trash can. I walked up to it. Suddenly a fire lit up inside the trash can. I walked closer to it slowly. Then chanting ...

I couldn’t go back. Not after saying goodbye for the last time. The empty highway ahead of me felt infinite. It went on forever. But that didn’t matter. I had nowhere to go anyways. My legs recovered enough for me to start riding my bike again. I hopped on and started pedaling. Normally riding my bike was fine and easy but this time I was carrying a backpack full of supplies and my weapons. It was peaceful in a way biking on this long, smooth road. It felt almost wrong to be biking on a road once dominated by cars. Now it was ...

This party sucks. Everyone is busy getting wasted and high. I should’ve said no when my suitemates asked me to come with them. Shoot I can’t even see them right now, they all dispersed into the crowd of sweaty people. They won’t mind if I just leave right? Maybe I’ll just head outside for a bit for fresh air. Who knows, maybe I’ll get in the party mood? Ugh, who am I kidding, I don’t even like going to parties, I haven’t been to one since like those lame middle school dances. I eventually pushed my way through the mass of people by the door...

I didn’t want to send the text. In fact I never wanted to text her ever again. I didn’t know what I was doing. My hands were shakily holding my phone. I never changed her contact photo. She looked so pretty in it, making a goofy face. You can do this. I wasn’t necessarily worried that she wouldn’t respond, it was more so me being worried about if our energy would still be the same. I’m not sure if I could handle the one worded responses anymore. I took a deep breath. Okay, you can do this. You’re doing this. Do it now. ...

“I’m not sure I can accept this?” I said to my friend who appeared at my door on an oddly warm December day. “Come on man, it’s like the song. You know, the pigeon in the apple tree?” He said holding the cage with a pigeon inside up for me to look at. “Nate, first of all, it's a partridge in a pear tree, second, I didn’t even know you could even buy a pet pigeon. How am I supposed to take care of it?” I asked incredulously. I looked at the pigeon, it cooed softly as it looked at me sideways. “Look man, I can’t keep it at my ho...

The only good thing about the small town nestled away in the mountains was the annual New Year’s Eve festival. It was so good, in fact, people from all over came to visit the rinky dink little town. An otherwise tame town became a hub of activity the week prior to New Years. There were gorgeous festive lights that lined all along the streets of downtown. It was a dream to stroll down the sidewalks. It was also a dream for all the locally-owned businesses, this was when prices were jacked up to sap money from the tourists. Natives knew not to...
