The day was going well for Andrew, there was less work at the office so he got to go home early. His phone buzzed with a text alert.

"A friend is coming over for dinner." It was from his wife.

His face showed a small smile. He was glad she made friends with the other moms in the neighborhood.

Andrew pulled into the driveway, admiring the neatly trimmed hedges in the yard. Tom, his son, waved from the window. As he walked through the door, he saw two figures bustling in the kitchen. One of them turned. It was Lucy, his wife. She kissed his cheek as he walked in before ushering the guest over.

"Andrew, meet Maria, she lives down the street!"

Both Andrew and Maria froze. Tight-lipped smiles and quick handshakes were exchanged. Dinner was mashed potatoes and meatloaf. Andrew's favorite. He thought the meatloaf had a different flavor in it. Maybe lucy tried a new recipe? For dessert, Maria brought a chocolate cake.

Before he took a bite, Andrew was stopped.

"Wait," Maria spoke, "I can whip up some cream to go with the cake!"

Lucy thought this was a wonderful idea. The two women sped to the kitchen giggling as they went.

When they finished, plates were passed around, the cake covered in cream and sprinkles.

"Why does dad have different colored sprinkles?" Tom piped up.

Hours passed and soon it was nighttime. Maria had left already and Tom was tucked in bed.
