My name is Miranda Whitley. I am 8 years old and I love spending time in my backyard tree house everyday. Today is a great summer day June 3rd 2020. Today started just like any other until my friend Jenny came over. The book she brought with her was no ordinary book. As soon as we read the first page I knew this day in my tree house was going to be something speacial. As we read into the third chapter I noticed bright sparkling lights started to surround the tree house and us. I got nervous but Jenny kept reading as if she didn't norice. So I said Jenny do you know what's going on? As she turned the last page in chapter 3 she replied. Miranda I want to see if time travel works. And I want you to go with me. So what better comfortable way to travel than in your wonderful tree house. I sat down in my giant purple bean bag and let out the breath I didn't realize I was holding. Then I said Jenny I don't think we should do this. What if it takes us somewhere dangerous? Jenny replies relax..Miranda Miranda we won't even ever leave the tree house we will just look out. Fine Jenny. Yes lets keep going. Ok chapter 4. As Jenny started chapter 4 it felt like my tree house started to spin. I squeezed my eyes shut. I asked Jenny how long is this going to take. Then the tree house felt like it was flying. I peeked out the window. To my surprise we where flying. Everything was a blur we where going so fast. I said its working Jenny. It was then that I realized. How are we going to get back home? As Jenny finished chapter 10 we started to slow down. I said Jenny where are we going. She replied the future. I don't know why but I was suddenly excited to see my home town in the future. Suddenly the tree house stopped and just was spinning again. Jenny was in chapter 23 now. I looked out to as we where landing in the exact spot my tree house left in. I thought really my tree house is in the future. I felt sceptical. As Jenny read the last chapter 28. Everything got still and everything seemed supper quiet. Jenny closed her book and stood up and stretched, and said well I'm not sure it worked I mean we are still in your tree house. I said but Jenny we flew we really flew. She smiled and said Miranda I think it was all in your head. Little did Jenny know I was right. We had traveled in time 60 years into the future only we didn't know that just yet. The year was now 2080 not 2020. I looked around at the houses and yards carefully. ALL the houses where different colors including mine! I said Jenny you can't leave. She said why not.? I said look out around us its all different. She looked out and said wow we you are right. I wonder what year this is. I said what are we going to do? Jenny said wait here I'm going home and I'll be back with proof so when we reread the book to go home we will have proof that we really time traveled. I said ok but be careful. Jenny said I'm always careful Miranda. As I watched her go I noticed someone in my house accross the yard was coming out to the tree house. As she climed up the tree house steps that she looked a little like me but she was not me. Her hair was red and her eyes where blue she had freckles all over. She s cute I thought to myself. As she got into the tree house she said. Hey who are you? And what are you doing in my tree house? I said my name is Miranda and this is my tree house. Who are you? She replied my name is Samantha and this tree house has been in my family for 6 generations. Why are you here? Well Samantha its nice to meet you. What year is it? She looked at me with surprise. Samantha replied your not from here are you? Of course I am. This is my tree house you are the one that is lost not me. Samantha said ok then it won't surprise you for me to say its the year 2080. I turned away from her as I could not hide my surprise. She laughed and said my grandmother told me this is a special tree house. I came out here to see what's so special about it. I said grandma Tilly never tells stories. Samantha said who s that? My grandmother is Lily in name not Tilly. Again I had to turn away because that means my little sister is her grandmother.! Wow is all I could reply. Samantha said so tell me what is so special about this tree house.? I said well you might not believe me but your grandmother is my little sister. I came here in my tree house from the year 2020. Is your great Aunt Miranda still alive? Samantha said I wouldn't know grandmother Lily refuses to talk about her sister. She came to this very tree house and never came back. I froze at Samantha s words. I never got back? How is that possible. I just left? I don't like what is happening. I said but Samantha I am her sister Miranda. I only left today. Me and my friend Jenny. She read this weird book and zoom. We went on a wild ride in my tree house. She went to her home to find proof that we where here before we go home. She asked me to wait here. Oh Samantha what if she never comes back?! What will I do? Samantha said calm down and let me think. What was this book called? I unfortunately don't know Samantha. She said ok think what happened when she said certain words. I said how will that help us? She s not back yet. Samantha said I am 8 years old and I want to go with you. I rolled my eyes and said of course you do. We waited what felt like hours and still no Jenny. I said I have a bad feeling Samantha. What if Jenny never comes back? She has the book. Oh I feel sick. Samantha said ok calm down. Where did Jenny live from here. I said 9th street apartment 5. Why? Samantha almost turned white. That s the apartment!! That's the place where they thought Jenny disappeared from many years ago. The case is still open her family said they would never close it. I said ok so how do we go get her? Samantha said I better go do it. Stay here Aunt Miranda. She left as fast as she could. I plopped back into my purple bean bag and said to myself wow 2080. Lily s a grandmother. I hope we can change the part where we didn't get back. As I waited I fell asleep. When I woke up it was dark out. I got up and got a Dr pepper out of the corner cooler. As I looked around my tree house there was a fantastic family tree on the wall in permanent ink. My sister Lily signed at the bottom of it in memory of my big brave sister Miranda. I suddenly got chills. I went to the little tree house closet to get a blanket. The one I pulled out had been Lily s not mine. I smiled that she had probably switched them out. I said out loud don't worry Lily I'll find a way to come home.
