Teens & Young Adult Friendship High School

It was summer of 2028, Charlie had just finished his computer science lesson and was heading to lunch. He was being accompanied by his best friend. They had been best friends ever since Charlie created him the previous year as his end of year project piece. He won first prize at a science fair with it, and he managed to adapt his creation every now and then meaning that now it can speak and act like an actual human being.

A robot.

Everybody in Charlie’s school thought he was mad, that’s why nobody was friends with him. That’s why he created this advanced piece of technology to be his one and only best friend. Charlie never had many friends growing up. He’s always been alone, and he doesn’t really speak much but I don’t think he minded too much. Anyway, Charlie had a lonely childhood and had always been a geeky boy, he loved gaming but not the way many other boys his age did. Charlie loved getting a new game for his PlayStation 7 because it meant he could spend endless hours and days in his technology room designing new algorithms to the game and to him making it 10 times cooler.

He was set apart from all the other kids in his year. That he had created something so terrible, but he just didn’t know it yet.

The robot Charlie had created was around 5’4’’ and he wasn’t like human at all. The mechanisms inside him whirring away as he got dragged by it wheels by Charlie himself. Them squeaking on every turn and creating this super high pitch noise when he came to a stop. Its eye sockets had been filled with the most intricate glass eyes anybody had seen, however they were fully functioning. All the technology that had been placed into them were unimaginable. If you cut it in half it would almost look like an everlasting gobstopper, with its multicoloured wires all throughout making it a whirlpool if colour. Unlike a gobstopper if you decided to put this eye into your mouth you would probably be electrocuted and severely hurt. It had such high power to it that if it even as much as overheated they would set to fire and destroy his years work. That’s what was difficult for Charlie. He was only ever allowed his best friend on and functioning for two hours a day. The rest of the day he chatted to himself and in reality, dragged a dead person round the remains of everyday.

Charlie had a unique fondness for this robot and adored him like anything else in the world. He had made this robot do this some humans could not even do. The amount of knowledge in his mechanical brain was amazing. Every definition of every word known to the human mind and even some that the humans didn’t know yet. He knew how to cook, clean, play football and even knew how to swim. Not that he ever could but if he were one day able to that would be his lifelong dream. Now as a robot he didn’t really have feelings, but Charlie made him. He programmed him to be sad about the same things Charlie was and be happy about the same things he was too. This meant that he had the same dreams and ambitions and the same flaws and impurities. As we know Charlie loved creating new pieces of technology so if Charlie liked it, he programmed his robot to like it too. This is what caused him to hate technology for life and made him become a footballer instead and made him have a much bigger social life than a silly old robot.

The robot and Charlie had great times together they created new games together, cooked together watch tv together they had real laugh. One day Charlie decided to adapt what his robot could do and make him be able to make things. Just like Charlie made him. It took him a whole while of coffee and bedtimes of 3AM but he finally finished after just 2 weeks. His robot could finally create things like him.

Charlie started by teaching him simple techniques and little tricks he had learnt over his years of inventing. First, he was able to invent something so useful and so creative that it got him famous and on the cover of the newspaper in his town. The article was called “Robot created a mini robot as a helping hand in the kitchen!” It was amazing. It didn’t quite have a name, yet Charlie had thought of one yet, but his robot did absolutely outstanding. He created a tiny robot that will collect anything you need from inside your own kitchen. For example, if you needed flour from the cupboard you would say to the robot “Robot I need flour from the cupboard” and the mini robot would fly or walk over to the cupboard and safely and efficiently deliver your flour to you. Mind blowing. The most fascinating part is a robot himself made it.

As the year went by the whole town had bought the mini robot and Charlie was thrilled. He was so excited to have made something famous and get himself some recognition for it. Suddenly everyone wanted to be his friend in school and soon afterward he was the most popular boy in the whole state. This gave him more and more motivation to see what else his robot could create. He made all sorts, electronic pots and pans that heat up without and oven, fridges that can also be hot and not just cold, but they are also voice activated. He also invented the tv that you can fold up into your pocket and take it with you wherever you went and when unfolded it was a huge flat screen tv that covered half a wall. He started to be more and more independent though and as he was able to make these things without the help of Charlie, he became evil. He started to get head strong and overconfident which annoyed Charlie. Argument after argument they grew apart and Charlie finally kicked him out and left him alone in the outside world.

I don’t know who, but someone claimed him and that’s when the revenge started happening. Charlie’s phone. That was the first victim. That what had gone against him and taken revenge.

An everyday piece of technology was now his worst enemy. It probably wasn’t as bad as it seemed but as a 17-year-old boy nothing could be worse. Detention after detention. Grounded after grounded. This went on for month and months.

It all started when his alarm went off in maths one time. He got a pass for It because it was a one off, and he was a god student. Then it happened again. Same class. Same day. Detention. This little game went on for weeks he was now the most hated student in the school by the teachers and he had no clue why his phone was doing this. It was messaging people telling them a whole load of crap and getting him reported to the police. This led to more and more terrible. Reports filing that he had been abusive or something or another.

He finally realised who had hacked his phone. If he can make heated pans he could hack into a phone. The robot. He had no clue where he was and that was the end game for him. He was a dead man, and he could do nothing about it. Secretes started spilling and he had no power anymore the phone had taken over. That was him now. As lost as a puppy in the middle of a corn field. That was Charlie. That was his life now. Officially over. But at the same time just beginning.
