Unseen Moves

We were moving, how fast or in what direction I did not know as I was blindfolded in the back of a car. I sat upright in the middle seat where they had carefully maneuvered me. They were making erratic turns and harsh stops seemingly on purpose but luckily they had been kind enough to buckle me in so for the most part I stayed in place. A few more quick sudden turns, almost like we went in one big square and we stopped hard and sudden once more. This one more so than the others as the belt tighten on my chest and as I relaxed once more I realized my belt had locked and I had even less wiggle room.

Suddenly I felt a breeze come from the left of me and I could feel someone slide in next to me but not too close. Not like it mattered, my feet had been tied together and my hands too. Then they tied my hands to my feet with just enough rope so my hands could sit comfortably in my lap but I could not reach very far to either side. I could feel the door close and the fresh air was gone. I could hear the faintest mumbles and feel the booming voice of the person next to me through the seat. They had placed earbuds in my ear and had the music just loud enough for it to block out the talking and any noises that could tell me where we were going. I was happy they at least had a decent taste in music and were not torturing me in a whole nother way.

Then we were moving again. More crazy turns and stops, this way and that way. My phone in my back pocket vibrated regularly, it was driving me crazy. They had left it with me but I could not get to it. Around one, two, three and as we went around a few more times I realized where we were. We only had one roundabout near where I live and even though they had been driving like madmen I still felt like we had not gotten all that far. I had no idea how we had made it here with all the odd turns they had made but I knew before even leaving the endless circles we seemed to be taking that I would have no idea what direction we would be heading off on. At least I knew for sure we had not made it horribly far. Finally out of the roundabout and a few minutes that seemed like forever down one of the roads with no turns we stopped again. I could feel the car move a little like someone from the front of the far must have been getting out. This time the door to my right opened and I took a deep breath of the air. Something was going into the seat next to me, not a person this time though I could tell. The door closed once more and no talking happened as the person seemed to get back into the front seat. 

Then we were moving again. How much longer was this going to take? At this point I had accepted the fact that something was going to happen at the end of this trip, I just wanted to know where it was going to end. I had to pee too but I did not bother saying anything, I would not be able to hear a response and they probably would not want to take the chance. After one super quick turn the things sitting to my right slide around the seat bumping into me. It felt like boxes but of what of course was impossible to tell. Finally, after only a few more crazy turns we stopped again. The freshest air I had the whole trip suddenly blew through the car as all the doors opened. I could feel the car move a little as the 3 other people had gotten out of the car. I felt stuff to the right of me get taken out shortly after then I was alone. Time seemed to move even slower during this time. I was surprised when suddenly there were hands on me and I flinched away. The hands moved away for just a second but quickly they were back to un-bulking me and took the ropes off as well.

Then we were moving again. There was someone on either side of me guiding me as I still could not hear or see. They helped me onto a sidewalk-like path that they slowly led me down. I could tell when we entered a building because the atmosphere changed and still we moved further. We seemed to move down a hall for a short while before turning Into a room. I guessed we went through a door since they both adjusted the way they were leading me. A few steps in and they brought me to a stop. I could feel one of them say something through their hand, it was the one with the booming voice. He let go of me and his hands moved to my head where he carefully pulled the earbuds and blindfold off in one move. It was bright for a second then it was loud!

As I was slowly able to see I could see all the people making the noise and realized what was happening. "Happy Birthday!!" many people were yelling and hollering out of excitement. Familiar faces all over the massive room I was in. Looking to the person on my right and it was my boyfriend, of course, I should have known his voice even if I could not hear it properly. My best friend was on the left side of me with the biggest smile on her face. Naturally they would plan something totally overboard for my birthday knowing full well I had forgotten about it like I do every year while being wrapped up in my work. In the end, it was the most amazing birthday ever!
