“Don’t wander off, Little Lil” Ms Abigail said as she helped Lilith sit down on the bench.
Ms Abigail smiled lightly and opened the door beside Lilith. She gave one last glance before she walked through the doorway and left Lilith all by herself.
Lilith sat there for what seemed like an eternity but what was actually 15 seconds. She picked at her itchy formal dress, glanced around, and swung her legs back and forth. Finally after a shocking extra 5 seconds, she had had enough. After all, who expected a 3 year old to sit on a bench, doing nothing for a whopping 20 seconds.
”Meh loo loo loo!” Lilith sang, prancing around the hall.
She flung an edge of her black and white dress in the air and bursted into giggles. Then almost 2 minutes later, Lilith got bored; she stopped skipping around and started slowly trudging down the hallway.
“Where is Mis Abigail?” Lilith said, drowsily as her newly lethargic state settled in.
She continued to wander down the hall until she reached the foyer.
“Na na na!” Lilith screamed, swinging her legs around until she reached the door.
She pushed it open with her body and continued to meander, aimlessly, outside.
Suddenly she saw a puffy ginger kitten. Her eyes immediately brightened and she gave a wide smile.
“Kitty! Kitty kitty!” She shouted as she began to chase the kitten.
The kitten meowed and mewled as they raced away.
After a few minutes, Lilith was just yowling and screaming with tears.
“KI-TY! COME ON!” She shouted, sniffling.
Then the kitten tripped on a stray branch and fell, allowing Lilith to catch up to the kitten.
“Kitty? Awe you okay?” Lilith asked, reaching the kitten and scooping it up in her arms.
The baby cat yowled at her and struggled but the kitten was injured. Lilith noticed this and immediately tried to help the poor thing.
“What I do? How hewp kitty?” Lilith asked, “Oh wait! Mws Abigail will know what to do!”
Lilith glanced around a little, trying to find Ms Abigail. That’s when it dawned on poor little Lilith.
“Oh no.”
She got up and started to walk around.
Lilith was in a random street that was dark and abandoned. A few vacant black buildings and quite a lot of dead trees dotted along the street. It was very overcast and grey. However as Lilith looked around the entire street, something felt vaguely familiar about this street, as if it was a completely different world tucked away in the mesmerizing darkness of this world.
“Kitty? Where you bring us?” Lilith whispered, shivers flowing down her spine.
The sudden coldness of this world brought shivers to Lilith. Then as the kitten stopped struggling and began to hide in Lilith’s arms, Lilith felt a gentle cold stroke of frost touch her cheek and the world … froze. Lilith immediately stopped shaking and dropped the kitten. That’s when she heard it … the whispering of the dead.
“Run. Run. Run. Child, run,” They whispered as softly as the wind.
But Lilith couldn’t move, and as the voices grew louder, she felt a great uneasiness grow within her.
Suddenly she felt a pulse of energy overcome her, and somehow she was able to move again.
“What is this?” Lilith said.
She heard a rustling behind her. Her head shot back to see what it was.
“Stay behind me, kitty,” Lilith cautioned as she turned around and steadily crept toward the rustling.
Then the rustling stopped and the whispers got louder.
“He’s here. Run, child. Run,” They said, eerily.
Then a small black cut in the fabric of this world appeared, slowly growing bigger.
Lilith stopped when she saw it and started retreating backward.
“Too late!” A dark voice shouted.
Then the rip in the world opened.
“No!” Lilith shouted as she collapsed to the ground next to the kitten.
Lilith shielded the kitten as the rip in the world shot tornado winds at them. Lilith tucked her face under her arms and pushed her head next to the shivering kitten on her knees. She slowly scraped backward against the winds as the whispering changed into a complete screaming.
“Use your power! Use it!”
But Lilith didn’t even know if she had a power.
“Well well well. Isn’t it Lilith Pruitt, the little orphan girl?! I guess I haven’t introduced myself! I’m Tenebris,” Tenebris cackled.
Lilith felt tears flooding her eyes, but she held them back as they bubbled at the surface of her eyes.
“Use your power! Use it!” The voices screamed.
“It’s finally time for me to end the Pruitt Line!” The dark voice shouted, delighted.
But before he could attack, Lilith jumped up with the kitten and ran.
“Leave me alone!” Lilith shouted as she fled.
“I’m afraid I can’t do that,” The dark voice said.
“Use your power! Use it!” The voices shouted again.
But Lilith just kept on running. Then she heard an explosion, causing her to glance back. However when she looked back, there was nothing… and then she ran into a hard wall, making her fall.
“Use your power, now! You have too!”
Then as Lilith’s vision blurred with tears of pain, she whispered, meekly “What … Power?”
And that’s when she blacked out.
“Wake up,” A voice called.
Lilith stayed still.
“Wake up!” The voice shouted.
“AH!” Lilith shouted sitting up.
Lilith saw a pale black haired lady sitting beside her, dawned in pure white robes.
“Who you?” Lilith asked, staring at the young lady.
The woman smiled sweetly and giggled a little.
“Oh sweet youngling, you don’t remember me?” The woman said, as her face slowly fell.
Lilith cocked her head sideways and raised her eyebrows.
“Let me jog your memory,” The lady said before clearing her throat and melodiously, whispering, “Let this sweet memory last forever, Your ancestors, you, and your descendants are power, You can fight all there is, Then pass this song to the next, Awaken your truth and hold on tight, Get yourself together and you can be …”
“An angel,” Lilith said, her eyes closed.
Lilith felt the sweet notes of the song flowing through her as she closed her eyes and felt a wave of serenity wash over her.
“Mommy?” Lilith asked when she opened her eyes.
A great big smile enveloped Lilith’s mom’s face as she said, “Yes, you remember.”
“You’re here!” Lilith shouted as she flung her arms around her mother.
“Sweetie, I’m not going to be here long, so I need to tell you something,” Lilith’s mother said.
“What?”
“When you go wakey wakey, there’ll be a big bad guy out there. You focus, listen to the voices, and do what they say. Then you’ll go bye bye. That’s it,” Lilith’s mom told her.
Lilith’s mom noticed Lilith wasn’t paying attention; so Lilith’s mom snapped her fingers to get her daughter’s attention,
“Hey hey. Repeat what I said,” Lilith’s mom said.
Lilith stopped and said “When I go wakey wakey, big bad guy there. I foc-ffffoccccus, listen to weirdy voices, and do what weirdy voices say. Then I go bye bye.”
Her mother placed her hand on Lilith’s shoulder, grinned, and said “Good job. Now Go!”
As Lilith beamed, everything faded into the black, and Lilith woke up.
“Good morning,” Tenebris cackled.
Lilith opened her eyes and she saw Tenebris. He was a gigantic long black serpent with fangs like long raging daggers and shining yellow eyes glowing like a cat’s eye in the dark. He coiled around Lilith as if he was afraid she would escape any second.
“Use your power!” The voices screamed.
Lilith concentrated, closing her eyes as she thought, Power. Power. Power. Then as she focused, she felt the raging hurricane inside her slowly stop and become controllable.
“There's nothing you can do,” Tenebris hissed.
Lilith resisted the temptation to respond and bit her lip. I need to follow mommy’s instructions! She thought, adamantly. She breathed in and out to try to focus as she opened her eyes.
She spoke without realizing, “Agua Tormentis!”
Then she started spinning and spinning, harnessing the hurricane within her by being the hurricane.
“Ah!” Tenebris shouted, slithering away.
“Attack!” The voices shouted.
She accelerated forward towards the snake, whipping acid water at Tenebris. The acid water burned through Tenebris’ scales, inducing a great pain on Tenebris.
“Fine! If you’re going to struggle, then it's time for the big guns!” Tenebris shouted, whipping his tail at Lilith.
“Move!”
Lilith twisted her body around the tail, but the scales burned the acid water back. Lilith screeched in pain as she fell.
“Get up! Get up!”
But Lilith’s delicate toddler body couldn’t handle the pain and she reverted back to her normal human form. Tenebris laughed as he slithered toward her and coiled up.
“Ahhhhh!” The kitten shouted as it rammed into Tenebris.
The kitten's eyes ignited and a raging fire burned through Tenebris’ scales. Tenebris and the kitten hissed as Lilith squinted at them.
“K-kitty?” Lilith asked weakly as she saw the kitten knock out the deadly serpent.
But before Lilith could reach out to the kitten, it all vanished and she appeared on the ground, injured and barely conscious. Then Lilith saw Ms Abigail running toward her.
“Lilith! Lilith!” Ms Abigail yelled, picking up the little girl delicately and calling an ambulance.
That’s the moment Lilith blacked out.
