“Hey Seth, I’m home!” shouted out Becky from around the other corner of the house.

I was sitting in my dining room doing my office work as usual when she entered out of nowhere.

Oh god! Here she comes. Now I would have to listen to her unimportant yet the most irritating talks about her, Denny, their weird relationship, and much more bla-bla-bla.

“Seth! Where are you lost huh?”

“Oh nowhere”, I said coming back to the real world. “You tell? How was your day today? How was Danny?”

“Fabulous. Just fabulous! Everything was so great, so romantic, so magical…It seemed like it was all a dream.”

“Woah. Hold on a sec girl. What are you talking about? Wait a minute… Did he just propose to you?”

“Not now. But there’s something more amazing. We, I mean me and Danny, are going on a vacation! And what’s more amazing is that we’re going tomorrow!”

“Oh great. When will you guys return then?”

“I don’t know anything about that. Maybe a week, a month or what if a whole freaking year!!?”

Well it’s true that i don’t like to hear her cringe talks but I’ll miss her. I’ll surely miss her more than anything. I’ll miss her company. I’ll miss her shouting, her yelling , her dirty room, I’ll miss every bit of her. Not because I love her but only because I can’t live without her. Or maybe that’s what love really is?

“Okay Bobo. Have a safe and nice trip.”

Bobo, that’s what I mostly call her.

The next morning I woke up to see a pretty little lady standing in front of me doing her weird dance moves.

“Oh hey Seth, you up? That’s great. Now come on help me pack some snacks for the flight. It’s a long way there you know and Danny loves to eat and…”

“Oh okay okay now don’t start again please. Come on I’ll help you out.”

After packing all her stuff she waited for Danny to arrive and then both of them left. I quickly took a shower and got dressed for the office. Oh what a busy day it had been. After completing all my office work I went home early.

“Bethy! Bethy!” I shouted entering the house.

Oh, never mind. She’s not here. Great! Now I have to make lunch myself.

After completing my lunch I got an important office mail which, thank god, kept me engaged for the rest of the day. Otherwise I don’t know what to do without Bethy. She is the one who entertains me every time I’m bored or have nothing to do.

Tomorrow’s valentines day. Everyone would be celebrating it with someone or another, and then here’s me… all alone. Great. I wonder what Bethy and Danny would do tomorrow. Will they have a romantic candle light dinner? Or will they go to watch a movie and then to a very fancy restaurant for a great dinner? Or what if they go to the seaside to enjoy this beautiful day among the peaceful environment when there’s no one except them. Oh so romantic. Shut up Seth… you’re alone. There’s no one for you than what’s the point of caring or even thinking about this day?

The next day went quite boring. Like every previous year, there was no one to give me a rose, or a box of yummy chocolates or even a nice ring. After completing my dinner, as I was watching my favorite television show, the telephone rang.

What’s the point of him calling me now, at this time of night. Twelve O’clock, when everyone’s asleep, or at least chilling at their homes in their comfy little pajamas watching Netflix with their other halves-- oh that’s so cringe, but that’s what they call it, everyone else. I wonder when I will get someone in my life too. One who cares for me, looks after me, takes care of my likes and dislikes, and most of all loves and respects me the way no one else does.

The bell rang again.

I answered the phone. It was Jenn, my office colleague. He was coming now. I wonder why. After half an hour the doorbell rang.

“Oh here he is,” I said to myself, hooking the white pearl necklace around my neck.

“Hey Seth, you ready?” Jenn asked.

“For what?” I replied.

“Nothing… it’s just aaa, you know an “outing”. He hesitated.

“Okay, just wait I’ll be back in a minute.”

“All done?” He asked after half an hour I told him to wait for a minute, because that’s my definition of “a minute”.

I nodded. He grabbed my hand, closed the door and led me through the hallway towards the elevator. We went to the basement and got in the car. He blindfolded me and told me not to take it off till he told me to.

I could hardly understand anything. But one thing was quite sure-- Surprise! He was giving me a surprise. And his surprises are not ordinary at all. Like on my last birthday he gifted me a car I’ve been wanting my whole life. And on the birthday before that he surprised me with popo, my Persian cat. Wonder what he’s gonna surprise me with this time… maybe a new Louis Vuitton bag I’ve been wanting lately? Or what about the branded Gucci shirt I showed him on my wish-list? Or,or what if it’s something completely unexpected… like a new house, a new Ferrari, a helicopter, or my very own personal jet, or… Well now that’s way too much, I know he won’t give me that but I wonder what it will be?

“Ready,” he whispered in my ear. “Now sit still, I’ll come and lead you through.”

I heard him opening the car door.

“Come on,” he said.

He held my hands and started leading me somewhere- maybe towards the surprise.

“Here, now open your blindfold.”

I untied the blindfold. It was amazing. Just amazing. I was standing right in the middle of a field of beautiful red roses. Soft violins were being played in the background. Lights were shining brightly at me. It all seemed so magical. Like the fantasies I’ve read about in those fairy tales. And then there he was, Jenn, sitting on his knees right in front of me. There was a beautiful diamond ring in his hand shining brightly as his eyes. I’ve never thought of him in this way, but it was today when I saw in his eyes, the endless love for me.

“Ahem ahem,” he coughed purposely just to grab the right words. “Miss Sethy we’ve known each other for years and I know I’d never talked about it, in fact we had never talked about it, but it’s true that I loved you all those years. Despite all your clumsiness and awkwardness I love you for who you really are, and now I’ve taken the very important and life changing decision of my life. “I, Jenn Backyard, ask you, will you marry me?”

“Aww, yes, yes ,yes!” I exclaimed joyfully as tears of happiness started rolling down my cheeks.

I still couldn’t believe it. How lucky am I to have this much loving and caring of a life partner. This definitely has to be the best effing day of my life. He finally proposed.

This has a lovely ending, even with its unlikeable main character! Glad she got the proposal she wanted.
