Adventure

An Odd Spotted Elephant Who's Named Spot

Once upon a time in a huge metropolis called Danville, Va. there lived a spotted elephant whose named Spot. His parents had named him that because when the stork brought him, (which is where all babies come from), it accidentally dropped him on the ground and he rolled in some meezols bacteria and so when he got to his mamma's, he was covered in spots. Later as he grew up, the other elephants would tease him because it made them seam bigger, which is really important to all male elephants. They'd yell things like, "Hay, Spot! You want me to, 'spot' you on the ballense beam?" "You're in the wrong, 'Spot!' " "It looks like you've got the chicken-pox, so go, 'pock' your suitcase, if you're not, 'chicken!' " "Go put a, 'chick-in' your mailbox for that advice!" and other teasing words like that, then the'd laugh. That made poor Spot laugh with them, but on the inside, his great big heart was shattering. Since his heart was so much bigger then any of the other animals, it was that much more painful for him. Those others were so cruel it would make him go home and bawl bitterly.

When he got home he told his parents, "I don't belong here! The others tease me so much and it really does hurt my feelings big-time, like you always taught me to do everything, 'big' like us!"

"Don't worry, son," they'd tell him, trying to be comforting, "You're better then they are, remember that, because an elephant never forgets, honey!"

He would take those words to heart, but every time he went back near them they'd tease him all over again. Soon they got creative and called him some bad names such as "Fire-Snout," "Really Big-Guy," "Jumbo The Dumbo," "Rudolph The Long-Nosed Elephant" and other names that were quite painful to him. Each election day he would always vote Republican, for obvious reasons. Besides, he didn't want the country to be run by a donkey which had too much kick in him. Also he didn't hate anybody since he always forgave them for doing everything bad to him, he would always remember the kind of things they had done to him because an elephant never forgets. That was also the reason why he had invested in some, "Elephant Insurance."

Yet then one day while he was taking a warm bath, he heard the sound of some animal in great pain, and it sounded like the same one who was the ring-leader that had started the name-calling and teasing he got from all of the other animals. Still, he went running to see what was causing the noise. Actually, he would have charged to see it, except he didn't have his credit card handy which meant that, "charging" anything wasn't possible. When he got to where the sound was coming from, there he saw the same animal who had started all the name-calling and teasing that all the other animals had picked up on, stuck in some quicksand. By the time he got there it was already up to his shoulders. Spot tried to pull him out but he couldn't reach him, and so he gave him his trunk to grab on to while attempted to pull him out, but he couldn't hold on to it. He even- tually disappeared under the quicksand. Spot stepped into the deadly stuff to pull him out. He succeeded, but in doing so he went into the deadly stuff as it engulfed him. The mean, old animal who had been the ring-leader in teasing him so much survived. That was more then could be said about the valiant hero who'd just sacrificed his own life to save the jerk's life. That made him weep bitterly. That was the first time that any of the animals had seen him cry so they knew he was really distraught about losing his hero who had just saved his life.

There was total silence, except for the horrible weeping from the huge packiderm who should have rightfully been the one who had parrished in the quicksand trap. "Oh, if only I could have had just one more chance to thank that guy for saving my life I would have done it!" he sobbed, "That was a hero!"

Then all the other jungle animals joined in with his sobbing. Even the laughing hyenas were all crying, which is quite unusual since they never did that.

A praying mantis spoke up above all the wailing happening in the jungle and said, "The Word says, 'Greater love has no man then to lay down his life for his friends.' He wasn't even a friend, but yet he still did it anyway. Some Man did that on an old, rugged Cross. That brave elephant will never be forgotten for his heroic deed. He truly was a hero."

All the jungle animals cried, which was amazing when you consider the fact that none of them had any tear ducts. The humming birds hummed all the verses to Our God Reins and How Great Thou Art.

While all the other animals were mourning the loss of that heroic elephant, even though they were, " 'mourning' in the evening," through the brush came a loud, but slow crashing sound. As the animals turned their heads to see who was making it, in came Spot. He was crying because everybody else there was crying until they saw him there. Then they all ran to get him and hoist him up on their shoulders, which took all the animal's efforts. They marched him a few feet, then they fell down while laughing with extacy. That larger-then-life elephant was a real hero, and had a welcome place in the jungle from that day onward. Later he found a beautiful female elephant who fell in love with him. A while later they had blessed the entire jungle with some, "little" elephants, if there is such a thing, and so, like the best-written children's stories of all-time will officially finish up with,

"THEY ALL LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER!!!!"
