Queenie loved that her human was home more often. It seemed like that was all her human did was stay home with her. Queenie's human was a young woman named Tiffany Myers who like Queenie enjoyed early morning runs, snuggles on the couch or in bed and treats, Chocolate for Tiffany and anything bacon flavored for Queenie. Her humans also like talking.

A lot.

For eight hours a day Tiffany would talk to the weird box on the desk wearing something on her head called headphones. Queenie did not like that box or those headphones. Because  that meant Queenie would be ignored. At first, She had the run of their small 2 bedroom apartment. But after dealing with being her human, ignoring her and talking to the box almost everyday for a week Queenie quickly figured out that the box needed to go for the happiness of everyone… namely Queenie.

After enjoying two blissful days of teaching Tiffany the merits of naps on the couch (again). Queenie noticed that Tiffany was starting to prepare for her “work days” as she called them to Queenie last week when they were in the kitchen and Tiffany was chopping vegetables and Queenie waiting for any dropped pieces.

“ I tell ya Queenie you have the life, you can nap all day you get fed and walked. Not a care in the world. me , I have to be on that computer talking to people for five days straight, I tell ya those work days kill me. Thank goodness we don't have to go into the office anymore because then I would have to talk to more people.” Tiffany shook her head at this point her blonde hair pulled back from her face and piled on top of her head in a lazy bun.

Chopping more carrots for her dinner to heat up for later when she got a lunch break. Tiffany took one of the pieces and gave it to Queenie.

Queenie herself didn't mind carrots but she would prefer one of the pieces of chicken that was sizzling in the frying pan.

“ I just wish I didn't have so many work days, I would love to just hang out with my favorite girl all day” Tiffany had stated petting Queenie's smooth black and white fur.  Being a Great Dane Queenies head was level with the counter top but she knew better than to grab food off there. She had learned that very quickly. She did not want to get another time out in the kennel.

As Tiffany finished up her cooking and put the food in a container to made to keep it fresh for later, Queenie got her first idea.

The headphones

Looking back now the headphones were too easy to grab and hide from Tiffany. She should've known that her human would have a spare set. It didn't even interrupt her day. Queenie had to take more drastic measures.

Queenie noticed that there was a long cord going from the tiny box in the living room to the big box on the desk in her humans office. The next day after Tiffany locked herself in her office Queenie went to chewing. It took some time and it tasted terrible but she had finally broken through the cord. This would definitely stop her human from having to participate in work days. Queenie heard the door open and ran into the kitchen. Better to be out of sight. Maybe her human wouldn't know it was her and blame the mice that Queenie heard in the wall sometimes.

“QUEENIE!! You bad girl, where are you!!” Tiffany furiously yelled.

Or not. Maybe this was a bad idea. Walking slowly back to the living room Queenie made sure to keep her head down low in apology.  When she got to her human feet she felt a hand grab her collar.

“ you are going in your kennel, while I go to the store to grab a new ethernet cord.” Her humans pulled Queenie to the large kennel in the bedroom and closed the door. “ BAD GIRL QUEENIE” she exclaimed loudly. Queenie silently watched as her human turned and walked out the bedroom closing the door behind her.

Yup. This was definitely a bad idea. Her human was so angry. Would this mean no more treats? Tiffany had bought Queenie some new treats that tasted not only like bacon but also cheese, it was the best combonation ever. In fact now that Queenie thought about it there was a lot of new things that her human had been bringing home. Maybe this work thing wasnt that bad. But it was just so long and Queenie missed being around her human during those eight hours.

Queenie had a lot to think about.

Three hours later Queenie lifted her head and watched happily as her human came back in the bedroom. Was she forgiven?

“Ok, girl I think I get it. We had almost a month of nothing but you and me without any distractions and now I am working again. But it's something I have to do to keep you and I fed and with a roof over our heads” Queenie listened silently as her human talked while opening the kennel door. She did like their home. And she liked her bacon treats.

“So, how about this. I will leave my office door open but you have to be silent. So if you want to come in and lay down you can but the first noise you make your out.”  Tiffany said to her petting her between the ears.

Queenie loved the idea and over the next week things were great she had her human and they had their home and Queenie still got her bacon treats. She didn't mind the box on the desk anymore because once Tiffanys work was over it got shut off and there was nothing else to distract her human from her.

Every day still began with a morning run after eating breakfast, then a snuggle on the couch while Queenie's human watched the talking box on the wall and Queenie napped, after a couple of hours her human would start up the work box on the desk and Queenie would lay at her feet. Enjoying the fact that she was able to be around her favorite person.

Life didnt get any better than that for a dog. Especially one named Queenie.
