She was so in love, twenty years of wanting to be with her true love, and it was about to happen. He bought her the plane ticket, promised her that THIS time would be different. He was going to give her the world. She had been waiting for so long for this moment, but there was a war in her mind. Would it really be different this time? The deciding factor in her saying yes, ended up boiling down to the sudden death of her younger sister 8 months prior. She basically raised her, and she was only 34 years old when she died, her name was Heather, they even had matching tattoos. The one thing that Heather always believed in, was true love. It was something that they even quarreled over at times, she was more cynical about love than Heather. She had been married twice before, and love did not seem to ever work out, even though, this twenty year relationship that existed was one that she held onto in some way, hoping that at some point, maybe it would come to fruition. Heather never even had a boyfriend in her 34 years of life, but still remained faithful to the concept of true love. The year prior to her death, Heather gave an owl pendant to her for her birthday, and this, she wore around her neck everyday. After Heathers death, this was the only physical token that she had left of her. Bags are now packed, and leaving for the airport, owl pendant is on, she must go and see if true love does exist, if not for herself, for Heather.
He picks her up from the airport and it seems almost surreal. For twenty years, they had seen eachother here and there when time and money permitted. He took her to his apartment and everything seemed as she had been told it would be. She was slightly nervous because the house in which the apartment resided was in the middle of nowhere and it was run down, but she took her bags inside. All appeard to be amazing. He was so sweet and for days the two talked, made love, he played the guitar while she sang. It was beautiful. Days went by like minutes. She was so happy, always looking down at her owl pendant and talking to Heather, hoping that she had made her proud.
And then it was the night before she was to leave to go back home. She took off the pendant to take a shower, and aftrewards became distracted by his desire to make love to her. Not ever did she not put her necklace on, but this time, she didn‘t, he was too distracting. Now she’s laying with him in the bed, and he embraces her, but then moves his hands to her throat, and he starts to squeeze. He looks at her in her eyes and says, “ I would rather see you blue, then leave”. She feels her throat constrict, she cannot breathe, she is able to barely get out the words, “I will never leave you, I will stay”. He stops squeezing. Now, she’s laying there, scared, how did this happen? She thought it was different this time. Then she immediately goes to grab her pendant around her neck, and realizes that she does not have it on. She tells him, she must find the pendant. He is content, as she has him convinced that she will not leave. He falls asleep. She looks in the bathroom as she remembers taking it off before her shower, it is not there. She starts to panic and look everywhere. Where could it be? She has had that pendant for years and never lost it once. He asks her to lay down with him and calm down and it will appear. They both fall asleep.
”Get out! Get out!”, she sees Heather, her baby sister in her dream telling her this, and it startles her to awaken. She’s only had one dream of her in 8 months since her death, and now Heather is screaming at her to “get out!”. But, how? How can she leave? She doesn’t have her necklace, the airport is 2 hours away, the house is atleast 45 minutes from society, and there is not a possible way for her to leave. He’s still sleeping. She’s laying there next to him trying to figure out what to do. He’s going to kill her surely if he knows that she is going to leave. Cannot wake him or make him concerned. She slowly starts to slide out of the bed, and she is pulling on the side of the mattress to do it very slowly as to almost not even move her body, and her hand slides under the mattress and she feels a cord, she starts to pull on it, and it’s her PENDANT! How did it get there? She didn’t put it there, how was it there, and that has to coincide with her dream. She puts her pendant on, and immediately has an idea of how to get out. She takes a risk, and sneaks out the front door, runs upstairs to a neighbor she briefly met during her time there and knocks on his door. The neighbor answers, and she says, “ this is a risk to to ask you, but I will give you two hundred dollars cash right now to take me to the airport, please do not ask why, but know that you are helping to save my life”. The neighbor agrees, and two hours later, after a very scary ride of not knowing if this person may kill her and take all of her money, he is a large man that she does not even know. She arrives at the airport and pays him and offers an enormous amount of gratitude. She is now standing in front of the airport with nothing but her purse and her pendant around her neck. She grabs her pendant in her hand, and says, “thank you Heather, true love is real, your love was true all along, you saved my life”.

Here for the critique circle :). Interesting tale! You portray the man's selfishness and possession wonderfully and I love how the only name mentioned is Heather's: the main point of the story! A good idea, showing his selfishness through his desire to rid her of the symbol of her only other love, the pendant. Not sure how the title ties into the main story: I assume Heather's love is from the other side? Basically the story is about two paragraphs, break it up somewhat! :) It is traditional AND format-compelling to have a new paragraph ...
