Teens & Young Adult Romance High School

“Mom come on, you have got to be kidding me

“Emily, you’ve left me with no choice. You don’t seem to listen, you’ve had a lot of chances”

“But Mom you can’t send me to a place like that, I’ll be with stuck up brats”

“Language Emily, maybe that’ll teach you a lesson. That’s final I’ve talked to your father already about this. Start packing you’ll be leaving in two days”

“WHAT”

My name is Emily, and I’m 17 years old. I live with my mum and dad and as you can see she’s sending me off to a boarding school. How this happened? Well, I’ll say I’m quite the trouble maker. I’ve been suspended multiple times and in my defence one of the time I wasn’t even the cause of it but because I was associated with some people I was ultimately suspended as well.

I stomp up the stairs to my bedroom and make sure to slam the door shut to show my frustration and anger. I pick my phone up and begin to message my best friend, who’s name is Tasha but I call her Tash for short. We’ve been besties since primary.

“Nah you won’t believe what Tash, my parents are sending me off to a boarding school”. I wait a couple of minutes for her reply.

“Hold up what did you just say, uh huh, that can’t happen”

“ I know ”

“What am I meant to do without my best friend?”

“ I don’t know Tash, you gonna have to visit me daily, because I don’t know how I’m going to survive living there”

“Are you even allowed visitors?”

Come on now Tash, why you making it sound like some uncivilised place”

“I’m just saying girl”

“Anyway we’ll talk tomorrow before I leave babes”

Not long after ending my conversation with Tash, I start to pack my things into on of my suitcase’s that stood in the corner of my room. I pack the necessities before packing my clothes. While doing this my mind wonders to how life will be like in a boarding school and I was sure I wasn’t going to like it. I’m going to have to leave my life here and start a new one. I was still very much angry at my parents for taking such a decision without my involvement or some knowledge on it. About an hour and half later I finished packing my things and leave it to stand by my door. By the time I was done it was 9 in the evening and I had to get ready for bed.

I wake up the next morning and get ready for one of my last days at my current school. The realisation that I won’t be here for long hits me and ruins my mood for the whole day. But I refuse for it to determine my mood. “I’m going to have to make the most of today” I murmur to myself. I use the little energy I have to drag my feet to the bathroom. I brush my teeth and take a shower. 15 minutes later I enter my room and get dressed in my uniform. I message Tash when I’m finished getting dress “Hey girl do you want to meet up” she replies within a minutes later “yes where should we meet?” I type back “ the starburst near school and we can get a quick drink as well. It’s on me” literally seconds in sending it she replies back “you ain’t have to convince me any further. I’m in” I chuckled to myself whilst readying it. I head downstairs and see my mum and dad in the kitchen with might full of tea. I don’t pay them any attention as I make myself a cup of hot chocolate. I can sense that they wanted to say something but didn’t react on it. After drinking my hot chocolate I leave to go meet Tasha.

I get there before Tash and wait for her. I see her coming around the corner in a bit. We go into starburst. I buy me and Tash a drink and we walk the little bit distance we have till reaching school. During school I try to spend most of my time with Tasha and another close friend of mine called Zikiara. We’ve been friends since secondary. School comes to an end and we make plans to go out for dinner for my last day tomorrow. I get home and as soon as I close the door to the front door and walk through to the living room I see both my mum and dad sitting on the couch. I pause and look around me and back to them as to say what what is going on. They beckon me to come sit down with them. I take slow, cautious steps not ready for any confrontation. I sit opposite them and wait for one of them to open their mouth. “honey, I know since finding out about going boarding school it hasn’t been the same, but it’s the best for you” my mum says. My dad continues after my mum. “sweetie, your mum is right your going to get used to it and before you know it you’ll be out of there”. As I sit there and listen to them my mind is in its own place. Maybe I shouldn’t have been distant with them as there doing it with good intentions. “Emily, do you not want to say anything” mum ask me. I must have zoned out on them for too long. “What is there to say mum. You and dad have made a decision to enrol me into some boarding school without my agreement or involvement. I’m going to have to leave my life here and my friends. I don’t know what else you want me to say”. After saying what I had to say I proceed my way upstairs to my room, leaving them downstairs in the living room. I woke up the next morning and the reality of it being my last day dawns on me. I get ready as I do usually for school. I meet both Tash and Zikiara. We get there and depart from each other as we don’t have first lesson together. We session each other on our fourth period, maths. I never and would never like maths. It’s not my strongest subject whatsoever. I endure an hour of maths with it seeming long as when you don’t enjoy something time seem to drag. School comes to end and I meet my friends. We decide they should come over to my house to get ready to go out. “I’ll see you girls in an hour and half then” I say. Tash smiles and nods and Zikiara respond with “yeah babes”. We all wave each other bye. I get home and see mum “honey dinner will be done in 10min”

“I’m going out with Tash and Zikiara for dinner later on”

“Oh ok then, I’ll leave your share for later in the evening”

“Ok mum”. I head upstairs and undress from my school uniform.

“Emily!” I hear my mum calling for me “ Tash and Zikiara are here”. I get downstairs and see them sitting down. As I get there they both turn their heads in my direction and stand up. “We’re going upstairs to get ready mom”. I let my mum know. “Come on girls” they both follow behind me. Once we get into my room Tash and Zikiara takeout their outfits and lay them on my bed. “Oooo is that what your wearing Tash” she nods while smiling and responds “ ikr doesn’t it look amazing”. “That will look banging on your figure”. I can see Tash blushing as she’s the type of person who don’t take compliments well. “Omg you guys stop hyping me up”. We all breakout with laughter afterwards. We all get dressed and do our makeup. Me and Zikiara are both wearing a tight fitting dress reaching just about the knees with heels. On the other hand, Tash is wearing a sequenced, slim fitting play suit with heels as well. Zikiara offers to dial an Uber here. “It will get here in 7minutes” Zikiara days while hanging up the phone. Me and Tash nod in acknowledgment. “We look AMAZING” I squeal out. “We really do” Zikiara says. We all head downstairs and my mum an dad turn their heads in our direction and their eyes bulges from its socket. “Wow girls” mum says while dad is speechless. We simply thank her. “We’ve gotta go mum and dad our Uber is waiting outside” I say in a hurry. “Have fun girls!” both mum and dad shout as we get near the door to leave.

We get to the restaurant and the building looks as if it’s a new build. The name of the restaurant stood boldly and illuminating on top of the restaurant just before we enter into the building. We had all researched restaurants days before our arrangement and had come across this particular one, which has five star ratings  and had great reviews. As we meter the first thing I notice is the setup. Each section of tables is in its on booth to somewhat give family and friends who have come together their privacy. There were barriers in between sectioned booths. The lighting gave it a romantic feel to the place as it lit the place with subtle purple lights giving it a dull look to it as well,  where as customers and the workers were able to see each other but not like ordinary lights that were harsh looking. We go in and a worker approaches us to take our names. Once he finds our names on the reservation list he leads us to our table. We silently thank him and he leaves, eyes lingering on me . Tash taps me on the shoulder. I turn around. “Did you see the way he looked at you. He’s got the hots for you” Tash says I roll me eyes at her “come on Tash he was not looking at me in any kind of way plus he’s doing his job”.
