Adventure Fiction Mystery Suspense

“Woohoo! We are going on a vacation!!” we sang. My family was the type of family to always have a party. Back then when things weren’t so complicated… I was sprawled on the seats in the back of the hot minivan, but that was before I knew what that one flight could do to my life.

The AC was broken, making beads of sweat roll down the back of my neck. I saw my older brother scroll through his YouTube feed before stopping at a video. “Come on, are you not excited for the vacation,” I said. He didn’t respond. I sighed before swiftly taking his air pods. “Devon, you better give those back!!!” He yelled. “What is going on back there?” Mom said before turning around to diffuse the fight. She grabbed the air pods and offered them to my brother. “Please behave boys, or we won’t go,” she said. “Cedric, do not use those air pods until we get on the plane,” “Alright I guess,” My brother said.

“We are here, at the airport!! I pranced around. “No goofing off Devon!” dad said. “You must be the most immature ten-year-old in the whole world,” Cedric laughed. I gritted my teeth before delivering accidental shove. “Hey, you did that on purpose,” he said as he fell back. He retorted and sent me into a nearby man. The man had dropped his briefcase and scrambled to pick it back up. I offered him my hand. His sweat smeared all over my hand. His hand felt stiff and tense. I noticed his behavior. “No worries, I will be on my way now,” he said before I could apologize. That man was… strange to say the very least. He was in a jacket and a scarf that covered most of his body, including his face even though it was steaming hot outside. He was so tensed up when I offered my hand and his hand was as hard as metal. I assumed he just came from a cold place and had a meeting with someone. Later I would find out that he would have a meeting… one that could destroy the world.

We get to the security check. I saw the shady man again. This time he was calmer, but still clearly stressed. After he finished the security check he immediately ran to his gate. Before I knew it we were first in line. The gate agents asked the usual questions to my parents. I just couldn’t shake it off, something was clearly wrong with that man. This time I thought about it. He was wearing clothes that covered his face and his body, that was the time I was sure that he was doing something illegal. We made it to our gate. We still had time. I felt my mom notice that I was stressed. She got up and made her way to ease me. Bang!! It turned out that a customer had knocked down a shelf. The stress was making me have a headache. It felt like needles stabbing into my brain. I eased myself. “Deep breaths 1 2 3,” I whispered.

“What is it Devon? Afraid of flying?” Cedric laughed. “Yeah,” I lied. We waited for our flight to arrive. I fidgeted with my fingers not knowing what to do with them. I waited for the crack of static to call us to board the flight. “Group B can now start to board now,” the intercom said. “That’s us!” my dad said. We were on the flight. As we moved to our seats I saw a black figure. Black scarf and black jacket covering every inch of his body except his eyes. It was the shady man from before!! My heart skipped a beat. He got up right away when he saw I was next to him. I felt the river of fear start to turn in an entire ocean. He was hiding something.

He was making eye-contact with a nearby man. Their eyes fixated on each other, like the world around them had disintegrated. Then a flight attendant cut through the silence and asked what they both wanted to eat. They stopped to answer her. After that, the shady man got up to use the bathroom, still gripping his brief case. The flight was about to take off he shouldn’t be able to use the bathroom. The flight took off. The flight attendant had asked be what I wanted to drink. “I would like Passion fruit juice please!” I responded. I notice the shady man was back in his seat. I looked back at the flight attendant to see that the juice was suspended in mid-air!!!

In fact no one on the plane was moving except for a few. Those people got up and transformed. Their humanoid features faded away to leave behind monsters their bodies were bulkyand their legs were slim but strong. Each one had a different color. “We shall begin the meeting,” the shady man from before said. He was different. He had icy blue eyes and a purple body. The difference from the others was that everything about him was built to kill.

I shifted my weight anxiously. One of them wandered close to me. His arm touched my leg. Its scaly skin rubbed against my skin. He changed his focus to me. He looked directly into my eyes before turning back to the other aliens. “We shall use the our abilities to rain terror over the human race. We need a new inhabitable planet and their the only thing in our way!!!” I saw their feet dent floor. “We shall start off by destroying their way of communication!! Then we will dismantle their system one by one!” “In three months, we shall take down the leader of this part of the world!!” the shady man said. “Transform back into humans and resume time!!” I felt myself shake in fear. They sat back in their seats in their human forms. It would be about thirty minutes before we landed. So all I had to do was survive.

After we landed. I told nearby police what I saw. They didn’t believe me until they saw the deep footprints indents on the floor of the plane. They suspected it was a prank. But after further investigation they started to believe me. Thanks to their carelessness I was able to convince the police, but by then they were long gone. They must have known that they have been compromised since the attack on the president never happened… but who knows: They may be hiding and waiting for the right time to strike!!
