"I don't think this is gonna work."
"Shut up."
"Mother doesn't like ya sayin' that."
"What are you going to do, report me to her? I thought you hated snitches."
"I do, but I wouldn't be snitchin'. I'd make ya do the snitchin'."
"Oh would you now? How exactly would you go about making me?"
"Ya know how I am. I've got my ways of gettin' people to talk."
"Okay. Shush up then."
"I think that is the same thing, but whatever."
"..."
"What do ya think she is doin' right now? Haven't been around her much lately, 'two of us. Almost like ya are avoidin' her."
"So perceptive of you. What gave it away?"
"I just said... what? What, I got somethin' on my face?"
"You're one to talk, y'know. Following me around, giving me crap for doing stuff behind her back. Here you are, not reporting to her like the good little soldier you are."
"We aren't soldiers-"
"Like hell you aren't! Never give a second thought whenever she orders you around. 'Jacob, keep an eye on your brother. Jacob, bring me anyone who dares to slander our name. Jacob, take them out of my sight and blast HOLES IN THEIR HEADS!'"
"..."
"You may not care, but I'm done following her orders. Done my best to keep my hands clean."
"Oh, ho, yeah. Sure. Ya hands are clean, but ya still got the same blood as me, same name as me. Don't make ya any better whether ya hands are soaked in oil, blood, or water."
"What's water gotta do with any of it?"
"Wouldn't ya like t'know."
"Yeah, I would."
"..."
"..."
"..."
"You're shit at trying to be smart."
"Ya gonna get that open or what?"
"Its been open since I told you to shut up."
"...tell ya to shut up."
"You mumbled?"
"What are ya plannin' on doin' anyways? Run away, like a little baby? There ain't no where to go, unless ya plan on killin' ya'self. And she won't make it easy for ya to do that neither."
"She already has, with you constantly clinging to my ass."
"Like ya said, I don't think twice. Don't ya like hangin' out with me?"
"I'd prefer if you were more quiet."
"Not possible."
"Stating the obvious like always."
"Watcha mean?"
"Do you ever think before talking?"
"Do ya ever... screw off."
"What do you think I've been doing all night? Going on a little stroll through the sewers because I enjoy the smell?"
"Don't smell as bad as the Pits. Although you wouldn't know, keepin' ya hands 'clean' and all."
"That gate we passed was welded shut for a reason. This particular tunnel is one of few that drains outside of the city's walls. See that ahead? That's freedom."
"Outside the city? Ya really are plannin' on dyin'."
"I plan on getting away from her. Out there is the only place that I'll be able to escape her. For good."
"Ya kiddin' with me, right?"
"You wish I was."
"Okay, okay, say you was to make it to the Green. What are ya plannin' on doin' out there? Eatin' leaves and rollin' around in the mud?
"I guess I'll find out once I'm there. The sooner the better."
"Ya can't go out there Hector! Nobody but witches survive in the Green!"
"I'll take my chances."
"Ya ain't!"
"Try and stop me then."
"..."
"Get off me!"
"I ain't just gonna let ya die!"
"I said get off!"
"..."
"..."
"Don't go out there. It ain't worth dyin' just to get away from her. Ya still got me, right? Ain't I worth livin' for?"
"..."
"Hector?"
"I'm not going to die out there. I'm still my mother's son. Won't die so easily."
"Ya avoidin' my question."
"I've read up on the Green. Whatever notes my father left behind. I'll get by."
"Hector!"
"And you'll be able to take care of yourself, no problem. You haven't needed my help in a long while, and you won't be needing it anytime soon, I'm sure."
"Look at me Hector!"
"..."
"Ain't I worth livin' for?"
"...You're the only person in all of Tael that I can talk to like this. You've made living under her rule bearable. The only person I trust, that's what you are to me. But no, you're not worth staying here for. I hate her more than I love you."
"So that's it between the two of us? Ya just goin' to leave me here, while ya go and risk ya life just to be away from her?"
"I'd ask you to come with me, but I already know your answer."
"Y'know shit about what I want and don't want."
"Jacob. Brother. I'm leaving. If you want to stop me, you'll have to kill me or take me to our mother. Hell, she'll probably kill me for trying to leave! It doesn't matter if I'm in here or out there, I'm probably dead either way. And I am taking my chances in the Green."
"Like ya father. Who abandoned ya, just like how ya tryin' to abandon me now."
"Pretty much."
"Screw off."
"I'm trying, but you won't let me go."
"How can I? Can't I give ya a goodbye hug?"
"You're not trying to stop me?"
"Look, I know how much ya hate her. And I ain't the best brother in the world. And yeah, ya are leavin' me behind. But I'll always have ya back, even when ya don't love me anymore."
"Impossible."
"No, really, I'll even lie to mother about ya. That's how far I'm willin' to go."
"You know that's not what I meant."
"Watcha mean?"
"Forget it. You're too dense to understand."
"I understand plenty. Just like how I understand that I'll see ya again."
"You probably won't. I don't plan on coming back."
"Y'never know. Ya just said probably, which means I'll probably see ya again."
"Hey Jacob."
"What?"
"Are you ever gonna stop hugging me?"
"Only when the water is dried up."
"What water? You mean the sewage?"
"Wouldn't ya like t'know."
