Mystery

Meeting 1

“Today is the first meeting of our secret society. You all know why you are here, right?” Everyone nodded. “Anyway, let me see what you guys can do.” Chloe said. “Astrid, show me what you got.”

Astrid stepped forward. She put her hands out, and nothing happened.

“It’s okay Astrid, just imagine it happening, then do it.” Chloe encouraged.

Astrid closed her eyes and put her hands out for a second time, but this time water shot from her hands. “I did it!” she shouted.

Once Chloe had taught Astrid the basics she moved on to teach Oliver. “I want you to do the same thing as Astrid. Think it, then do it.”

Oliver nodded. He closed his eyes and thought for a moment, then he raised his head and pushed his hands out to the ground. A single daisy sprouted up from the wood.

“It’s a start. But I think you can do better.” Chloe said. Oliver tried again and this time he sprouted a whole patch of grass. “Congrats! Your first patch of grass!” Chloe remarked.

Next was Violet. “Same thing as the others?” she asked. Chloe nodded. Violet closed her eyes. When she opened them she noticed that she had frozen Chloe’s feet to the floor.

“It’s okay.” Chloe leaned down and touched the cold ice with her fingers, it immediately started to melt. Once she had melted all of the ice she took her shoes off and left them near the crooked window to dry.

“You have fire power?” Violet said in amazement.

“Show us!” Astrid said, entering the conversation.

 “Fine.” Chloe responded.

She stood in front of the three of them and put her hands out, flames emerged in seconds. She took a breath and juggled the fire. She did under the leg and around the body. She was an expert at it. Once she was done juggling she threw a ball of fire at Astrid.

“Think fast!” Chloe hollered.

Astrid shot water at the ball, it immediately fell to the floor. She closed her fist on the other ball of fire, and it disappeared.

“Cool! I wish I had fire power!” Oliver said.

“You're lucky you have any power at all.” Chloe mumbled.

“Sorry, I couldn’t hear you. What did you say?” Oliver asked.

“I’m just saying that you are lucky to have any power at all,” she said. “See you guys next time!” Chloe said and walked outside to feel the cold night.

Meeting 2

“We are special in many different ways.” Chloe finished her speech just as Astrid walked into the old abandoned house.

“Uh, hi.” She said, looking around the unstable living room.

“You're so lucky, you missed the speech!” Oliver complained.

“Violet, do you want to go first?” Chloe asked.

She nodded. Everyone stopped talking and looked at her. She placed her hands just above the floor, and mountains of ice crashed down through the weak floorboards.

“Nice job, Violet,” Astrid congratulates her. “Now you, Oliver.”

He stepped up and twirled around with his hands out. Nothing happened.

“Help!” somebody cried. Everyone looked over to Chloe who was covered in grass. “Astrid, do you mind?”

She nodded and stepped forward, put her hands out and water shot from them and she washed off all the grass and plants.

“Now my turn.” Chloe says. She walked over to the fireplace. When she stepped back and everyone looked, there was a fire! Then Astrid walked over and put the fire out. “Good job today,” Chloe said to them as they walked out of the crooked door.

Meeting 3

“Today we are going to work on different things. First up is Violet. You do whatever your first instinct is, okay?” Chloe said and Violet nodded.

The ice blocks melted so there were huge holes in the wood. Chloe lit a fire and Violet put her hands out. Ice came from them. She froze the fire.

“Good job Violet! Now you two.” She pointed to Oliver and Astrid. “Oliver, you grow a patch of grass, and Astrid, you over water them. Then you drain the water from them.”

Oliver made a tiny patch of grass. Then Astrid flooded it. She waited a second and then slowly raised her hands in front of the water. All of the water was drained and she held it in the air. Chloe read her mind and held out her water bottle. Astrid filled the water to the top. But there was still more water.

“I’m thirsty.” She held her head back and made a path of water into her mouth.

“Do it to me!” Oliver said. Astrid led the rest of the water into his mouth.

“That is amazing!” Violet exclaimed.

Everyone flooded out the door into the rose colored sunset.

Meeting 4

“Hello everybody!” Chloe said. They all walked into the old house and sat down.

Oliver got up to get water. “Help!” They heard him scream. They all got up and ran over to him. He had fallen into the hole made by Violet’s ice.

“We need to get him outta there!” Chloe cries. “We have to make a ladder!”

“We got it!” Astrid and Violet said together. Astrid made a ladder shape in the air with water, and Violet froze it. But it fell from the air because nobody was there to catch it. Chloe stepped forward and, as if reading their minds, she kneeled next to the shattered ice and hovered her hands above it. The ice melted quickly and soon it was a puddle of water. They tried again and this time Chloe caught it. They helped her heave it down into the hole.

Oliver took a step up but slipped back and fell onto the hard ground. “It is too slippery!” he said.

“Cover it in grass!” Violet exclaimed. Oliver slid his hands among the icy bars. Once the whole ladder was covered in grass, he stepped up the ladder and crawled onto the wood floor.

“I want to talk to you guys.” Chloe said. Everyone sat down and listened to her. “You guys have gotten so much better at controlling your powers. I think that you have mastered them. Always remember that you are not bad or different, just unique.”

A very interesting and captivating story. I enjoyed how some magic worked and had to be corrected by the others. Very well done. Loved the story and the take on the prompt.

Nice work! I liked seeing the characters use their powers together. Editing note - search "formatting dialogue" online, there are tons of great resources with examples. Keep writing!
