I sigh, hearing the screams from the basement yet again, I get up from my desk, tearing myself from my writing. I walk down the hall, the screams growing louder. I feel my lips curl up into a smile, I don't know why I would smile. I feel bad for them. Maybe I smile to hide the pain I feel, the sadness and sorrow.
I shake my head, clearing my thoughts. I cant let myself feel this yet, or I wont be able to go through with it. [KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK]
I turn around to my front door, my body felt icy, my breathing became strangled, I started sweating. I would have to deal with them quickly. I opened the basement door, they went silent in their cages, some of them sat down, the chains scraping against the concrete floor.
"Stop, now." One of them spoke, "But we're so hungry" I shook my head, understanding, but also not entirely caring all that much, "I'll feed you tonight, but for now shut the fuck up." One of them nods, another muttering but saying ok, and the last one staying quiet.
I left the basement, and went to the front door. "Hello?" I asked as I opened the door, seeing two cops. "We have received a noise complaint, may we search the premises?" I shake my head, "Do you have a warrant?" The cops sigh, "No sir e do not, but we have been receiving noise complaints about screaming, crys of pain and such." I chuckle, "No warrant, no entry."
After a while the cops leave, Grumbling about the crappy warrant law system. I walk inside, drenched in sweat, I was acting cool and collected, but in reality I was scared shitless.
I heard the chains rattle, and clang against the floor. Someone was making an escape attempt, and they got the chains off the wall somehow. I ran into the basement, upon opening the door I saw him, eyes wide, at the top of the concrete stairs.
He took a step back, almost losing balance and falling down. I decided he no was no longer required to live, I kicked him in the chest, and he flew back, screaming. He flinched backwards when my foot came flying at him, so he went even further.
He reached the bottom of the stairs and only then did he hit the ground. His head hid the concrete with a sickening crunch, and he stopped screaming. His body was upright for a moment, standing on his head, before it fell away from the stairs onto the ground with a thump.
The two others gasped when he hit the ground. I walked down the stairs at a normal pace, calmly, and slowly. The others looked at me with fear chiseled onto their faces, one of them stammered, "Y-you just killed Jonathan." I didn't respond with words, only having nodded in confirmation.
They both stepped back, the chains scraping against the floor. "Now, you will tell me this. How did he get out?" I watched them freeze, "W-well, will you kill us if w-" I interrupted him, "I will kill you if you don't tell me." They both started to shake in fear, "I'm sorry sir, He got out by pulling as hard as he could." I shook my head, "No he didn't, I would've heard the thump, all I heard was the clang, and scrape of the chains hitting the top of the basement stairs."
"Please, don't hurt us!" I sighed, getting annoyed by their disobedience. "Tell me how he got out. Now." I emphasized the word "now" trying to scare them. One of them shook their head, "NO, cuz then you'll fix it!" I shook my head, before punching them in the gut.
"You will tell me what I want to know, or you will die. Do you understand?" He nodded, but then said, "Then you better kill me." I shrug, "Fine then, Wait here for a moment." I turned around, to the basement stairs before hearing his footsteps running towards me. I turned around seeing him with his fist raised. I wasn't feeding them quite enough to be stronger than me for a reason, and this was why.
I simply ran past him, grabbing his chains and I yanked on the one around his neck. He fell backwards, his feet in the air as he landed on the back of his neck and head. I walked over to him, rolling him onto his stomach and I stomped on his back. Not letting my weight go off of him as I yanked on his chain once more.
I was strangling him, he couldn't breathe, and he was squirming under me, like a pathetic insect, like a worm wriggling, searching for escape from the clutches of a young child which would later rip the worm in half. The other person screamed, begging me to stop hurting him.
I ignored him, only standing on him fully and I pulled on the chain harder, and harder. Then I heard a snap and his head whipped backwards, His dead eyes were looking at mine for a moment. He went still, no longer thrashing about.
I stepped off him, letting go of his chain, his head fell forward, his nose smacking the concrete with a cracking sound. I turned to the final person alive. "Will you tell me how he escaped? Or do you wish to die as well?" He stammered, "I-I don't want to die, but I also don't know how he escaped, I-I promise you I'm not lying!"
I didn't belive him, not for a second. I slapped him, making him cry. He was sobbing on the floor, pathetically. I kicked him, "Tell me, or I will kill you." He cried, pleading with me, saying he didn't know.
I beat him for half an hour, before I heard the doorbell ring. I noticed he wasn't sobbing anymore, he was too tired to move anymore. Perfect.
I walked out of the basement, changing my clothes as quick as I can before opening the front door, seeing my mother. "Hello darling, how are you?" I gave her a look of disgust, I knew she had to be homeless, or want something from me. She didn't love me, I knew that. "What do you want, mother?" She sighed, knowing I saw through the act.
"I need a hundred dollars, or I'll go homeless, please. Surely you wouldn't want your own mother in the streets right?" I chuckled, not in humor, but in hatred, trying to keep myself away from the tears, and pain. "No, you're wrong with that one, mother. You abandoned me a lot as a kid, so how the fuck do you expect me to lend you anything when all you did was fuck other men and then come back to dad.?"
She tried to interrupt me, but I wasn't going to let her manipulate and gaslight me anymore, "No, mother, shut the fuck up. I'm not letting you push me around anymore, I'm not letting you manipulate me anymore, You fucked up. You didn't try to fix anything. You're a parasite, a leech. I never want to see you again."
She had a look on her face, a look of bewilderment. I had never said anything like that to her, because I thought having a relationship with her would be beneficial once upon a time. But then she dropped the ball, again, and again. Like she always does.
I shut the door on her, but she didn't leave, she started knocking, determined to have the last word. I locked my door and went into the basement, seeing the sole survivor, out of the chains. "I knew it, you did know. You fucking lier." He froze and stared at me, his eyes wide. Then he screamed, "HELP, PLEASE IM IN DANG-"
I didn't let him finish his sentence as I grabbed his neck, strangling him, as I shoved him on the ground, my grip not wavering for a second. I pulled him up and slammed his head into the ground several times until I saw his eyes roll into the back of his head. until he stopped moving, stopped breathing.
I stood up, hearing someone open the basement door. "FREEZE, THIS IS THE POLICE!" I turned around, seeing them, their guns pointed right at my face, their flashlights on, blinding me. "PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR OR WE WILL SHOOT!" I obeyed, eventually getting arrested.
I spent the next week in prison before hearing the words, death sentence. They told me I was going to get a final meal, today. I would be dead tonight.
I chose steak, dr pepper, and booze. They didn't give me the booze. I ate the steak, and drank the dr pepper, before they grabbed me, not harshly. They led me to the room, with a chair and straps.
I was pushed into the chair, and they strapped me in, and put an iv into my arm, along with four vials next to me. There apparently was an order. Soon I felt drousy, my arms tingling, and my limbs felt as if they were drifting away from my body.
I felt my brain fog up, not allowing clear thoughts, the fear faded and I lost vision. Soon the voices drowned out slowly, the lights losing their fluorescence, and soon I was at peace.
But when I woke up, Everything around me was burning, and I was chained up by the neck.

Well, it makes sense to me, I mean, Webster defines poignant as being deeply affecting, or piercing, and I guess any story where four people die should do exactly that, right? I don't know, I guess that's just the way my mind works, lol :-) I overthink things a lot...

I didnt say it was a negative thing, I understood what you meant, and I agree. Also I thought there was only 3 people that died. oh wait the death trial lol
