Okay... so..."
We all look to Stanley as he begins to speak, expecting him to say something comforting and take control of the situation. He wasn't the most eligible person to lead the group, but it was something. We just needed someone who was willing to do it, and lead. I should have known that that wasn't what he was going to do.
"Where are we?" he finishes.
We all sit there in silence for a moment, wondering how exactly he thought that any of us would know the answer to that question. Brie was the one to speak up.
"Hmm... well, we were kidnapped and blind folded, brought to a destination that was unknown to any of us. That along with the fact that we were gassed when we were left in the van and passed out... that would lead us to... Here."
He looks at her with a blank look on his face. I wondered if he even knew what she was saying at this point. He wasn't exactly the brightest person in the group.
"That doesn't answer my question..."
"None of us know where we are, you idget!" she shouts.
Her voice echoes along the walls of the cavern and out into the night sky. At least we don't need to worry about running out of air or anything. There wasn't a ceiling. The walls were impossibly high, though. And smooth. Very smooth. I would say that they were at least thirty feet in height. So... no scaling this one.
"You don't have to shout at me! How was supposed to know?!"
We all give him the look that that comment deserves. I make a humming noise while tapping my chin.
"I don't know, maybe stop and think about what all has happened to us so far ever since we had met each other? It's not like we were exactly given a map or a guide or anything."
He glares at me.
"Well, thanks a lot, Jordan, but I was thinking that this would be a great time for someone to come forward and tell us if they were an impostor or..."
Brie quickly interrupts his train of thought.
"That was not what you were thinking, and we all know it. Believe it or not, Stanley, but you're a pretty easy book to read. You had no idea what to say, and you were just talking to talk. You do realize that silence can sometimes be a good thing... right?"
"Ladies! Ladies," beckons Jace, "let's not..."
I whip around and face him.
"Oh, don't you dare take his side on this!"
He raises his hands in surrender. His eyes were wide, and he seemed to be on the verge of laughing. This was not funny! I give him a menacing glare to convey that thought, and all the amusement drained from his face.
"I was just saying that now was not the time to start a fight. You can take down Stanley later and hang him by his nose hairs on your own time, but right now, we need to find out..."
He was interrupted by a blight light that suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
"Holy...!"
His next words were drowned out by the voice that came from the drone.
"Hello. I am..."
Out of nowhere, a metal water bottle hit it head on and sent it flying into the wall before crashing to the floor in front of us. We all stare at it for a moment.
"Yes! I hit it!" cries Stanley.
"Dude!" yells Jace. "We needed to know what it was going to say!"
Stanley shakes his head.
"I have watched way to many movies where the robots turn on the humans, and that robot was about to turn..."
We all stare at him for a moment.
"What the heck is wrong with you?" questions Brie.
He actually has the audacity to look affronted by that comment. I have almost had it with him, honestly. And it hasn't even been five minutes. I would consider that to be a new record. Honestly, I have never known someone to grate more on my nerves than he is now.
There is a whirring, buzzing sound as some sort of paper comes out of a dispenser at the bottom of the drone. Brie walks over and picks it up before Stanley even has a chance to try to get a hold of it. That would probably be as disastrous as the last time.
"Get to the exit... well, no dip, Sherlock!" shouts Brie to no one.
She continues to read before huffing with irritation, balling up the piece of paper and chucking it at the opposite wall.
We all wait for her to say something. She starts walking in the opposite direction. Did she want us to follow...? or...?
"You guys might as well come along seeing as there's nothing else to do!" she shouts.
We all look at each other and shrug before following. This should be fun. We all follow in silence for a little while, before Stanley finally decides to break the silence. I wouldn't have advised such an action, but... you know, that's none of my business, and if he dies... well, that's his problem, not mine!
"What was on the paper...?"
"Apparently, we are supposed to find some secret entrance and avoid death at every turn, because that's just a realistic expectation of four teenagers!"
Confusion.
"What?"
She glares at me as if that was a stupid question.
"What? What do you mean, what?! We were sent on a suicide mission to find a freaking door! This doesn't happen in real life, you know. This has to be some sort of.. of..."
Her face grew blotchy and red as she tried to express her anger.
"Hallucination?" supplies Jace.
She gestures to him angrily.
"Yeah! Or some sort of simulation, or something!"
"Umm..." is all that I can get out. I'm not exactly sure how to react in this situation.
Stanley walks forward and turns to look at all of us.
"Look, you guys, it can't be that bad! I mean, sure, we have had a crappy day, but..."
The floor suddenly opens up underneath him. Jace lurches forward and grabs his collar in the nick of time before Stanley had a chance to plummet to his death. We all look at the opening in surprise. Brie and I look into the cavernous mouth with curiosity.
"Welp..." I begin. "That just..."
The floor opens up again, and we all plummet into darkness.
