Fiction Holiday Suspense

Our winter vacation has begun, it was a warm but cool winter day, and the time was 12:01, and we were driving to our destination. This winter me and friends (Isabelle and Charlotte) decided to go on a vacation together along with my little sister Anne (because she wanted to come too). We decided to stay at a remote winter cabin kind of in the middle of nowhere, or what I meant was that it takes about an hour and 30 minutes to get to the nearest town and restaurant. But there was a lot more to do than just sitting in the cabin. But for right now It felt amazing driving in the snow, the snowflakes were falling, the snow striking my face, and the warm sun reflecting its rays on me.

Finally, we reached our destination, the moment we stepped out of the car it felt amazing and the scenery was off the list, I mean “MAGNIFICENT!” I said. Anne was already running towards the cabin and said, “Com’on yall what you waiting for.” Then I and my friends were dashing through the snow seeing who can reach the cabin first, even though Anne was already there. My parents unlocked the cabin and we stepped right in. As soon as we stepped in, we all had this cozy and warm feeling in us. The cabin was big enough but, mostly cozy and comfy. It had a fireplace, a small kitchen, 3 bedrooms I will have to share one with my sister, and a porch. My parents then said, “Alright girls enjoy your stay!” “Oh, and  Gracy don’t forget to take care of your sister.” I nodded yes. While Anne was already touring the whole cabin.

For the next few days, we did a bunch of fun activities like Sledding, skiing, roasting marshmallows on the porch (it also had a fireplace), and we found a hot coca place just 25 minutes away, and we had a lot of snowball fights. We had only a few days left till we go back, everything was alright. Sometimes we would drive to the town in our rental car to get some delicious food. But we mostly brought our meals and we would just cook them by putting them in the microwave because the restaurant was too far.

It was about 6:30 and Isabelle, Charlotte, Anne, and I were sitting at the porch, but suddenly the weather was getting colder and the air was getting thinner. Isabelle asked, “Gracy, did you check the weather forecast before coming here?’’ I looked up to her and said, “Yes.” The weather got darker and so did time. Charlotte said, “ What if we hit a blizzard?” I said, “That can’t be possible I checked the weather and they said there was no sign of blizzard.” Anne said with a serious face, “Sometimes weather is unpredictable.” We all went to the living room and turned on the news and suddenly everything SHUTTED! DOWN! It was all dark and we all turned on our flashlights. Charlotte was right there was a blizzard going on. Everything was gone the electricity, the internet - “Oh no, my battery died!” Anne said.  We all were in a panic, it got more worse Charlotte broke her phone. And my phone was close to dying. But then we somehow managed to get to the living room fireplace where we could at least see each other’s faces.

For an hour we just stared at each other and just hoping electricity would come back. Anne said, that she was very hungry, well so were the others. I then had enough, so I tried to make light. What I did was that I found some twigs, limbs, and logs from the porch trying to be very careful because it was all dark. On the way, I found a bowl. Then I broke the limbs and twigs into pieces and then opened the fireplace Isabelle was like, “ARE YOU CRAZY!” Everybody went behind me and I used a long limb to get some fire on like a matchstick and then I dropped into the big bowl. All of this I did was to make food, have more light around the house, and make the whole house warm because the living room fire wasn’t good enough. It almost felt like negative degrees. Kind of felt like the olden days where they make fire and cook food on it and use the fire to light the houses. But it did felt a little scary we didn’t want to burn this place up!

Next, I used my scarf and moved the bowl very very gently and precisely to the kitchen floor the kitchen wasn't that far just like 3 steps away, because the bowl was very hot. After that I got a barbeque rack grill - because of the fire, there was light. Found some frozen foods from the fridge I had to carry a stick with me so I wouldn’t electrocute myself. Everybody else followed and then we sat at the counter waiting for our food to warm up. We finished our meal. Things started to get a little calm. But we spent 5 hours trying to figure what to do it was almost like 12 pm because the blizzard started around 6:50 ish.

The next day, the blizzard had stopped but it was freezing and the fire blew away. It was a little sunny we were able to see but it was still kind of dark. All four of us went to the door, but it was jammed. We then went to the porch and it took some effort but we ended up opening it. It was frozen dead cold! The snow was almost 5 feet deep or it looked like it. We went back into the room still there was no electricity, power, and all of our phones weren’t working but we were still able to see because of the sunlight. Anne said, “What do we do now?” I said, “We find our own way,” “Let’s get the fire going so we can stay warm.” I picked up some logs, twigs, and limbs from the porch. Broke those logs and twigs into smaller pieces and then grabbed a long log lit up like a matchstick and dropped it in the firepot. The reason why I got a fire going in the kitchen was that so we could cook food and when it’s dark we will be able to have light and see.

As soon as I got that done, we first warmed ourselves up while Charlotte went to the bathroom. Isabelle asked, “How do we get out of here?” I said, “Until the snow gets lesser and were able to drive in a rental car. We don’t even know if the car is working because it was outside and probably covered with snow. Charlotte came back and said, “This differently feels like the olden days,” “Cause we’re experiencing this let’s try to make the best of it as possible!” Anne said, “Maybe we can!” I also agreed and Isabelle just kind of shrugged.

For the next few days, we just made the best of it possible. I used fire bowl technic and put fire bowls all around the house so the whole house would stay warm. We all had enough frozen food to last for another week and it’s because we ate less. During the night we all slept together in our living room. It has been three days and the snow still was steep the front of the door was still surprisingly jammed and we worried about how we were going to get back home. Because we tried to make our best during this time period the four of us sang songs, played games, and chatted (ALOT).

It was the fourth or the fifth day don’t really remember. We saw a car pull up in front of our window and - “It’s our parents!” Isabelle screamed. There were some cops with them too. They busted open our doors and escorted us to our parents we gave them very big hugs! They went into the house and blew the fire bowls away. Finally, we were in the car driving safely to our home or the to the hospital, or a police station.

All our friends were in the emergency room getting checked up to see if we had any fever because boy it was really cold and the police asked us a few questions. But everything turned out fine. As me, Anne, Isabelle, and Charlotte were walking in the hallway we were talking and giggling about how adventurous it was and it was kind of like the movies said, Isabelle. We all had a very blizzardy and snowy adventure. All in all, each of our parents drove back home.
