Sayemontess-Rebirth

It was only day three of Tessa’s ruling. She had a long night with tossing and turning, headaches, nausea and nightmares. She knew she would have to try something new. She would bring music back to Sayemontess. She remembered how much her citizen’s worked when under its influence. She found the perfect song about a castle. “Captivity,” by Big Thief. She sang it a cappella, and her citizens were moved to work on the rebuild of the castle that had been lost in the earthquakes.

Time was of the essence as Tessa feared a strike from one of the northern colonies would soon ensue.

Su had the gift of receiving premonitions, and she had a bad feeling. Her feeling told her to get out of Sayemontess. She took off running. Tessa shouted at her to stop, but Su made it to the woods before anyone could stop her. She was that fast. Su, the only one with the gift had made her escape, and she was never seen again by any of the citizens of Sayemontess.

Heartbroken from the sudden loss of Su; Tessa fought back the tears. She had to show that she had control over her emotions. Then it happened. She saw them. She saw the beasts from the northern colony break through the gates to Sayemontess. They were coming after her and her people. A premonition that Tessa would never forget.

Max was the most fit of the citizens. A hunter, swimmer, and gatherer, he walked around with such pride. He had given all of his clothing and archery to the elderly, beautiful people under Tessa’s care. He did not have a need for any of it. He liked being seen, and Tessa liked seeing him. The kindness Max showed to Tessa’s elderly clan did not go unnoticed.

Max approached Tessa on her fourth day as ruler. Naked, but kept warm from a bear’s pelt he was given in exchange for a six pack of arrows, and some raw honey, she held him in a gaze. She could not help herself. The way he moved. The way he held himself- was sexy. Tessa whispered in his ear,

“Are you ready for this? We fight at dawn.”

Max was not ready.

Su was right, and Tessa’s premonition was right. All hell would soon break loose. The northern colony had fewer citizens, but Tessa saw that they had more archery equipment during her premonition, as well as plenty of hot tar and feathers for whomever they captured. She was terrified. It was time for CODE BLUE!

—-

A History of CODE BLUE-

Fourteen years ago, the northern colony tried to take on the people of Sayemontess. They did not succeed. The stocks, and the musty dungeons were no way to handle these beasts. They all had to die. The gallows it was. It had to be the gallows. Shackled, one-by-one, they were led to the gallows. Three normal sized men were assigned to each beast. It was kill or be killed, and CODE BLUE meant KILL!

—-

“CODE BLUE! CODE BLUE!” This was spreading across Sayemontess, and once they could hear the beasts approaching, they all snapped right into action. They ripped limbs from trees, and they gathered rocks. They were not going to be blindsided.

“You’re the first person I think of in the morning, and the last person I think of at night,” said Tessa to Max. It was quite the unusual friendship, or was it something more? She knew she liked Max. He was a young man in full bloom, but could he be the one? The one to produce an heir to what would soon become the throne of the new Sayemontess?

—-

The ivy grew fast and dense. The ruins were completely covered by day five of Tessa’s ruling. The beasts from the north encroached upon the ruins. They roasted the insects that had crawled out of what was left of the musty dungeons. They tried to get away, but the beasts were ravenous. They caught, cooked and ate everything in sight with their grotesque faces, and massive underbites. No one knows how the beasts crossed the mote without a bridge, and boats, but they did. Like I said, they were beasts. They even brought the hot tar and feathers. Not one feather got wet, and the tar was kept nice, and scolding hot. It was ready to make the citizens of Sayemontess’s skin melt, and it would do just that.

—-

As the war cries began, the citizens of Sayemontess all gathered around Tessa. Sticks and stones in hand- they could not wait to pummel their foe. Tessa said a prayer, and was sure to include the beautiful elderly citizens. Then it happened. She saw the beasts tearing away at the ruins. They took everything they could grab. Tessa then ordered everyone to charge!

—-

The mote had high waves, but the swimmers could handle it. The swimmers all made it across the mote!

—-

A Note on the Swimmers

The swimmers could do anything, and everything. They were like acrobats on steroids, yet they thrived on the fresh drugs that grew in the woods of Sayemontess.

Ah, Sayemontess. Sayemontess the beautiful. Sayemontess the great. Without getting the castle rebuilt it would never be complete. Not by any rate.

—-

As the swimmers approached the beasts, the citizens threw stones, and shot freshly made arrows that we had lit ablaze. Poor Micah, and Alyssa were lost in the crossfire. The beasts were savage. Bloody from scratching themselves senseless. Some of the beasts solely wanted to find clean bedding that was free of bedbugs and no see ums.

—-

As the cold winds blew in, Tessa felt she should say a prayer for forgiveness for what she did to Sonja. Perhaps she wanted a clear conscience? Or did she really feel bad? Either way, she went and knelt beneath an apple tree in private, and she prayed.

“May this fruit not be forbidden. Yes, I am smitten, oh Lord. Max. Oh Max,” but as she prayed, she heard a scream in the distance. Max!

She grabbed an apple and took a bite. Then off she ran as fast as she could to find poor, screaming Max.

—-

However he did it, Max had gotten himself caught by two beasts. Tessa arrived just in time to see her new love get tarred and feathered.

“Tar and feather! Tar and feather!” Chanted the beasts. They had covered his naked body with tar. That perfect body that Tessa truly loved. Then came the feathers. Max preferred the hot tar as it reminded him of a warm, mother’s hug, but the feathers clogged his eyes closed, and he missed his sight already.

“Charge!” Shouted Tessa, and they all went into the mote. The elderly did not make it across the raging waters, and this worried Tessa. Who would assist her in dressing, cooking, and cleaning? Who? She had lost the three most beautiful elderly people from her Sayemontess. They were gone, but would not be forgotten. Sharon would get a potato garden for she loved potatoes very much. Tom would get a Xenia garden as he loved Xenias very much, and Pat- we can’t forget about Pat- our oldest citizen at 48. She would get a whole bathhouse in her name since she was always keeping clean. It would be completely tiled in emerald green tiles. This would have made her happy.

—-

The beasts grew nervous. The flaming arrows and flying stones got them scared. They began to retreat, and they all left Max there to rot. When Tessa finally reached him-Max was gone beyond recognition. He would never be able to see again, or be able to breathe out of his nose. He would never get his hair back, or his good looks. He was done, and Tessa stabbed him right in the throat with her sharpened spade to put him out of his smoldering misery. He bled out quickly and was soon to be cremated and spread along the spring flowers that blossomed along the mote, but first- vengeance! Vengeance for Max, and all of the elders!

Acceptance

Finding acceptance in Sayemontess was vital. You wanted to be attractive. You wanted to show off your body, but Garth had trouble shedding his clothes. He wanted to be seen, but was too shy to admit it, but then he saw a beast hiding behind a large shrub. He ripped everything off. Nothing was going to weigh him down. Sword in hand, he ran so fast that the beast did not stand a chance. Death. Murder. He did it for his citizens. He did it for those of Sayemontess. Then he realized he was naked, and he quickly covered up.

Going forth into combat naked was the way only a true hero could get things done. All of the beautiful people of Sayemontess had no body hair. It was a daily tradition to shave each other. This made them faster swimmers and runners. Fact.

The Last of the North Colony Beasts

On her sixth day of ruling, the beasts that were left had fled back to the north. They had taken all of the clean bedding that was left, and whatever they could find to eat. Insects, rodents- all were lost. At least Tessa noticed some freshwater fish in the mote. She loved freshwater fish. This was exactly what they would need to gain the strength to rebuild.

You know I've loved all of your Sayemontes stories. I hope you make them into a book one day!

I like the way you formatted this story - makes me think of a history book where there are little side notes or footnotes that give extra details. If you ever wanted to expand this story, I could see it being a mixed media graphic novel like The Watchmen.
