Before The Show

It was the audition day and Ella was excited she had been in many plays but was most exited of this one. She had never audition for the lead role and had practised her pronunciation for weeks and remembered all of her lines. She was really looking forward to getting on the stage. She had always had a passion for performance every since she was young she used to do puppet shows and loved dressing up. Her name was called from the list and she excitedly walked on the stage like she couldn't get on there fast enough. She was very confident with her lines and had always wanted to be the star of the show. Her audition went great she didn't make any mistakes and everyone stood and gave her a round of applause at the end. She was so happy but was not looking forward to the whole next week of suspense.

The next week Ella checked the notice board and to her luck the play rolls were up. But there was a large crowd surround it Ella tried to push though but had no luck she was to short. Soon the crowd thinned out and the sheet was noticeable she searched the sheet for her name. She so excited to see her name next to Juliet's and the top. She couldn't believe it. But she had to try and hide her excitement as others around her sighed in disbelief.

"Are you Juliet?" An unfamiliar voice asked her. To her surprise it was and was a boy. He look about the same age as her and he had a huge smile across his face "Are you?" he repeated.

She look shocked "Yes" she said shyly she was still getting used to the phrase. She still couldn't believe she was Juliet the star of the show.

"Cool" he said "I'm Romeo"

"Oh cool I'll see you at practise" she tried to sound cool and relaxed but really she was super excited she might get her first kiss. Just thinking about it made her want to be on the stage already.

"See you then" he said. Ella had a strange feeling in her tummy she hadn't felt before. She looked dreamily at him as he walked away in the distance. For the rest of the day she was off task she just wanted to start practising the play. The last bell rang and Ella was all packed up ready to go to the hall to start practising. When she got there only a dozen of people were already there. None of her friends wanted to do the play and she couldn't see anyone she knew. She stood alone feeling shy. Everyone else seemed to either know someone or was talking to someone. She felt left out. She had always seemed to fit in but now she felt alone. The door swung open it caught her eye. It was the boy she had talked to earlier. He smiled at her and was coming her way. She felt her cheeks start to feel warm and that feeling was back in her stomach.

"I'm so excited" he said with a huge smile screeched across his face.

"Me too"

Just then Miss Day walked into the hall. Ella's favorite teacher the drama teacher came in.

"Everyone places" it echoed throughout the hall. Ella excitedly walked to the stage. She couldn't wait to get started although she had to sit through four scenes before it was her scene. She waited patiently for her scene but why she waited she got to go through her lines. But surprisingly it came faster than she thought. Soon she was on the stage in the spotlight. She nailed every line and phrase and soon the play was at the final line the one Ella had looked ford to the most. She had never been kissed. Well it was close in year 5 but not close enough. Although she was excited she was also afraid and that weird feeling came back in her tummy. Alex was standing right in front of Ella he leaned in but was stopped by Miss Day. "No we are going to wait for the big performance" she said. Ella tried to hide her disappointment.

They had many other practises and the play was finally coming together but there was no final kiss. Although Ella had became well liked and wasn't lonely when they met for practises. She had made many new friends including Miss Day how thought Ella had a lot of talent. The big night was quickly coming around the corner. Everyone in the play was so excited and couldn't wait.

It was finally here the big night where Ella got to final be the lead role she had always wanted to be. All their hard work would final payed off. The whole theater was booked out and everyone back stage was ready for the play to began. Everyone got into there places behind the curtain. The music began and the curtain swung open. The crowd applauded and the play began. The play was going so well and it was two scenes before Ella's first scene. All of a sudden she felt sick her stomach felt like it was bubbling up. She hadn't felt like this before. She started to feel dizzy and she took a seat. Her scene was becoming closer and closer.

"Are you ready Ella" said Miss Day.

"I'm not sure" "I feel a bit sick"

"Oh Ella your going to do so well"

"Really"

"Of course you are my best actor" Suddenly the bad feeling in her stomach went away.

"Now go and show that what you can do" Ella excitedly got up and headed to the stage. The crowd cheered as Ella got on the stage. She remembered all her lines and the crowd loved her. It was time for the moment Ella had been looking forward to the most. They stood inches from each other. They both leaned in on cue. When their lips touched Ella could feel a spark. His lips tasted salty and he smelt like lynx. The crowd applauded and flowers came tumbling onto the stage. Ella was so happy. The whole set came onto the stage and bowed on cue. They gave a final applause and with that the hours of practise and reading of lines had final payed off.
