Every year, one person is sent to the moon.
"Isaac!! Let's go! There's no time to lose!!" You shout as your friend continued to stuff his backpack with food and water.
"I'm ready!" He shouts as you both head off and ran away from the convenience store.
Your whole town has already evacuated to the next state.
Two years ago, scientists and the people from NASA have conducted an experiment or, rather yet, a research, a study, to see how long a person can survive on the moon.
One person from all around the world will be held captive and thrown into the rocket, whether the person likes it or not.
They will be sent to the moon and try to live there for as long as possible.
They will be supplied with nothing but oxygen and water to survive on the moon, nothing more, nothing less.
Ever since the incident of seeing a rather dangerous unidentified species on the moon, via satellite, people have been terrified to go on their turn at the rocket.
That's when all the people started to run and move to other states, or better yet, countries.
NASA has an alphabetical list of all existing states in the U.S. and our state is next in line.
We don't have to run away our whole lives, we just have to wait until NASA catches a person and proceeds to send them off, then, and only then, can you go back to our state.
But today, you and your friend, Isaac, woke up to an isolated town, both of your families were nowhere to be found.
They left both of you behind.
But, even if that's the case, you still have time to move and run away yourselves.
The both of you have been on your way for a few hours and have been following the road nonstop.
You can't afford to stop, not if there are some alien obsessed dudes tailing on you.
"Look, Pollen!" Isaac called, pointing somewhere in the distance, "There's a town just a few miles from here! Maybe we can take a bit of a rest there!" Isaac exclaimed as he grabbed you wrist and pulled you to run on your sore feet to get to the town as soon as possible.
This year, though you hid in terror,
"Oh man, it's another ghost town..." Isaac breathed as you walked deeper into the said town.
"Well, we are one of the closest towns to the next state, so meeting ghost towns every now and then won't be unnatural" You say as you enter the nearest house.
You opened the wooden door and looked around the house. It wasn't that all fancy, and that all simple as well, it was in between.
There were ordinary everyday appliances, but very eccentric decorations.
"Whoa, these look expensive" Isaac complimented as he eyed the painting on the staircase wall.
"We can't stay long here, let's check if there's anyone left here, and if there are any food supplies left, then we can stay for a night before heading out to the streets, again" You sighed.
"Right, come on, let's take our rounds" Isaac nodded as you both headed out of the house.
You entered all of the convenience stores and there weren't that much supplies left, they were all probably hogged by the people who left.
As you were about to head out of the convenience store, you noticed a kid walking at a far distance from where you were.
"Oh, man" You groaned as worry started to take over you.
You sighed and brought your feet to run to whoever the kid was. "Hey! Pollen! Wait!" You heard Isaac call from behind you.
You tapped on the kid's shoulder as she jumped back, probably still shaken up from what's happening
You could see tears streaming down the kid's eyes as she started trembling, "Hi" You say, forming a smile at them.
She gave out a sigh of relief before smiling back, hugging you as she finally broke down crying.
"Hey, what are you--- Oh..." Isaac cut himself from his sentence as he noticed the crying kid hugging your waist.
"Hey..." Isaac called as he placed a hand on the kid's head, kneeling down.
The kid looked at him, tears still falling from his eyes.
"It's fine, now, okay? We found you" Isaac smiled as the kid nodded, still trembling.
"We need to move, now that we have a kid with us, we have to be more advanced than them" You sighed, picking up the kid and letting her rest in your arms, "I'll carry her for now" You say as we exit the town.
Being on the move in the middle of the road meant that there weren't any towns until the next 20 kilometres.
Having a kid with us was actually pretty easy, she was very cooperative and calm, she listens to whatever she says and doesn't complain about every little thing.
"Oh no..." You hear Isaac, "They're here" Isaac growled.
"Seriously? They managed to chase us down all the way here?" You ask as you picked up the kid and ran with Isaac following beside you.
The kid clung to you for dear life as you tried your best to run at a fast and comfortable speed as much as possible.
"They're closing in on us, damn it" You hear Isaac cuss as we all hear the car drive faster.
"AAAAAAAAHHH!!!!" You shout as you started sprinting, the kid in your arms shaking.
You thought you were about to lose them, but with your condition like this, they obviously caught up.
You felt a hand grab at you shirt, trying to stop you.
"ISAAC!!" You shout, throwing the kid to him.
He catches her and runs away, not daring to look back, the car pulls to a stop as the person who held on my shirt pulls me in the car, "Hello there" They smile at you as your thoughts slowed down and started to accept what fate has in store for you.
It is your turn to enter the rocket.
