I glance over at the clock. 11:59PM. Any second now it will strike 12. 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1! Still 11:59. 1! 1! 1! The clock hits 12. "First try." It was clearly not actually my first try, but only I knew that. I sigh with sorrow and head into the bathroom. Usually, I would hop into a cold shower, but today I felt like I needed a hot bath with some classical tunes. I take my clothes off and turn the faucet on.
"OUCH!" I adjust the temperature to be a little cooler. Should I add the bubbles? I take the bottle of bath bubbles from under the sink. Mmmm cranberry my favorite. I pop the lid off as if it was a champagne bottle and pour some into the water. Almost instantly the bubbles started rising. I turn the faucet off and tie my hair up into a bun. I dip my toe into the water. It's a little hotter than I want it to be, but I should be able to handle it. I place my whole leg in and then the other leg. I look down and see that my legs had already turned red from the heat of the water. I slowly bend my knees and get closer down to the water. I submerge myself underwater to get myself use to the temperature, but avoid letting my hair get wet. "Siri, play classical tunes on my playlist." Siri obeys and plays my playlist. I lay back on the wall of the tub and only listen to the music and the thoughts that ran through my mind. What seemed like hours of thoughts were just mere seconds. I close my eyes and allow the thoughts and music to consume me. If I still lived with my brothers, I wouldn't have been able to have this much quiet and peace.
"Siri, what time is it?"
"The current time is 12:46AM."
I groan. I should probably get to bed now so, I don't oversleep for work. I force myself out of the tub and let the water out. Goodbye bubbles. I wrap the towel around me and walk down the hall to my bedroom. I change into shorts and a bra and snuggle into bed. I quickly fall asleep.
I wake up to the sound of my neighbor mowing their lawn. I still had 10 minutes left to sleep, but that mower was not going to let me get back to sleep. I crawl out of bed and change into my work pants. I take out my work shirts. "Should I go with the blue one or the green one?" I walk over the mirror and imagine what each of them would look like on me even though I've wore them for years now. I place the blue one back over me. "This will due." I throw the green one at my bed and change into the blue one. I walk over to my vanity and message lotion into my face. My eyebrows didn't ever need to get a filling since they were naturally thick. Some consider that to be a blessing, but I didn't really think so. I always preferred thinner eyebrows than these. After I finish putting the lotion on, I grab my phone and walk into the kitchen.
You would think someone who lives alone would buy healthy foods like fruits and veggies and those other food recommendations that nutritionists recommend. However, that's not me. I take out a bowl and a box of fruity pebbles and the milk. I pour a ton of cereal into the bowl and fill it up with milk. I carefully walk it over to the table and begin to consume it. Mmmmm. Out of all of the cereals I have ever tried, this was by far my number one favorite. Well, this and Captain Crunch. I finish eating the cereal and toss the bowl into the sink.
"Future me can clean those dishes." I grab my purse and head out the door and off to work. I didn't have my car right now, because my mom was borrowing it until she got hers fixed. I walk down the driveway and down the street. "The sky looks pretty nice out." I stop in my tracks when a kid suddenly runs out in front of me. "Sorry!" They yell. I continue walking. Kids these days shouldn't play near the street like that. I make a left on Broad ST. As I am walking, I notice two men walking behind me. They looked like they were about 6 feet tall. I walk a little faster because I had a strange feeling that something wasn't right. I hear their footsteps speed up. Okay, they were definitely following me. I reach into my bag to grab my pepper spray and make a sharp turn into an alleyway. I hide behind one of the dumpsters and wait. I might be small in size, but I was not afraid to stand my ground.
About two minutes go by and still no sign of those strange people. I creep out from behind the dumpster and suddenly feel someone grab my wrists. I go to spray, but they quickly knock it out of my hand. The two men place handcuffs on my wrists and effortlessly pick me up. "LET ME GO!" I kick as hard as I can, but they continue walking. They throw me into the back of a car and shut the door. I try pushing the door open, however, they quickly put the safety lock on. Stupid safety lock. I kick at the door and begin screaming. The two men slide into the car. One in the front and the other in the back.
"What the hell do you guys want from me?!"
"You know what you did." The man in the back says to me.
"I did nothing!" I try to kick the guy, but he holds my legs down. Damn he is strong.
"Stop struggling. Your only hurting yourself." I roll my eyes at his demand. How can he possibly tell me to stop when he kidnapped me off the street?
"I'm calling the police." I go to take my phone out when suddenly it gets snatched from my hand. "Give that back!"
"Settle down."
I could not believe this. The men who snatched me off the street really had the audacity to say "Settle down."
The man in the driver seat says, "We're almost there."
"Almost where? To my grave where you two lunatics are going to bury me alive in?" They ignore what I say. I must have been correct. "Great, I'm going to die."
We pull up to some random building. They get out of the car and walk around to my side and open the door. "Here. I need to put this on." He holds out a blindfold and places it around my face, covering my eyes.
"Can you see anything?" I shake my head no. They grab my arms and walk toward the building. A tear rolls down my cheek. I didn't want to die yet. Why did today have to be my day? They pull me up on to the porch and open the doors. They remove the blindfold and turn the lights on.
"HAPPY 25TH BIRTHDAY, JESSY!" My mouth drops open when I realize what was going on. I turn over to the two men. "What is happening?" The two burly men laugh and take their costume off.
"Justin?! Jake?!" I punch my brothers in the arms. "You two morons scared me half to death!" They laugh and cover their arms.
"Sorry." I look back over at the crowd of people who came to celebrate my birthday.
"Thanks, you guys." A tear of happiness rolls down my cheek and on to the floor. "Thank you."

I liked this! I love how it ended in a happy ending and love the main character and how she acts. This was great good job!
