“Dream, hurry up, we don’t have all day!”
Dream huffed and rolled his jade-green eyes whilst sprinting to the brown-haired male ahead. Rich orange leaves crunched under the sandy blonde male’s thick woollen boots which radiated a warm heat.
It was a cold, Autumn day. The wind was swirling and silent while the breeze whisked around Dream and his companion. It had the faint essence of lemons and honey which brought Dream to a slightly drowsy state, bringing back halcyon memories of days when he was stuck inside for what seemed like hours on end, when he would entertain himself with video games, recording or snuggling up with a book.
He let out a nostalgic exhale and murmured incoherent words under his breath with a small content smile he glanced up at his Friend.
Dream ran up to his friend.
“Hey George, do you want to go to the river again?” Dream asked.
George’s face brightened and he grinned happily.
“Of Course! Let's go!” He grabbed the Sandy-blonde haired male’s arm and attempted to drag him over the hill.
“Why are you so tall Dream-”
“I don’t know, why are you so short George?”
He groaned.
Splash
A small waterfall connected to the river, where Dream and George were resting. Now and then, a curious deer would examine the duo from afar when they were oblivious to the creature, while if they were lucky enough to turn around at the right time, they would catch a glimpse of the hazel-brown beast.
The zealous George was devoted to skidding rocks across the water and would throw complaints around whenever he missed the water, which was a common sight to see, much to Dream’s amusement.
Suddenly, realisation dawned on him.
“George?” Dream said.
“Yeah?” He responded, eyes fixed at the water.
“We’re supposed to be picking apples, not playing at the lake.”
George turned his head so his eyes met Dream’s.
“Oh no.”

The duo was back on their feet and chattering excitedly among themselves about completely random topics.
“I’m just saying, I am WAY better at cooking than Sapnap is.” George boasted grinning.
“Nah, I’m better than both of you.” Dream countered.
“Right, totally.”
As Dream walked through the forest with his Familiar, for some designated reason, he would constantly think that he’d seen the russet-coloured fur of his beloved kitten, Patches. He would occasionally have a hunch that something was out of place. Patches was left with his sister and he trusted his sister to take good care of her. Even with these assuring thoughts, he couldn’t keep his mind off of the topic, no matter how much the Brown-haired male next to him tried to tell Dream that Patches was fine, the tone in George’s voice sounded like he was partially attempting to convince himself.

Invisible paint brushes inconspicuously painted delicate, soft shades of the fall sunset. Faint pinks, violet hues and flame oranges that gave the sky beyond a mystical look. Again, Dream had sentimental flashbacks of many memories with his friends, mainly George and Sapnap though. They were mostly talking or hanging out together. The emerald-eyed male smiled again.
His serene thoughts were cut abrupt when he gazed out absent-mindedly at a berry bush while it rustled as if a living critter was among the sage-green bush. Subconsciously, Dream called to George.
“Hey George?”
He turned towards Dream.
“What’s up?”
“This bush moved and I think that there’s an animal there.”
George’s eyes widened, he opened his mouth to speak but was cut off by the bush making a loud noise as the critter entangled in the bush burst out, disoriented and confused.
“Patches?”
The creature in the bush was a russet kitten, which was extremely familiar to the startled duo. Instinctively, Patches looked around wildly and dashed away.
“PATCHES!” The two yelled in sync.
____________
Dream needed a moment to figure out what was happening.
He and George were originally planning to pick apples in the forest as last Fall, the two had stumbled across the orchard and had shown Sapnap. They invited him to join the duo but to their disdain, he said no as he was busy. They certainly didn’t expect to suddenly be chasing down a cat in the middle of the forest.
Oh, what a day it’s been.
“Patches come back!”
“Patches where are you?”
The desperate calls of the two friends we're growing louder and more desperate at every minute, hoping that the frightened kit would come back to Dream.
He had made it to the main apple tree and had looked in every nook and cranny of any possible places his beloved cat would be hiding. Dream let out a long, shaky breath of disappointment.
I’ll never find patches.
He turned and a loud, pained yowl echoed through the forest.
A shorter male ran towards him.
“Dream! I found her!”
Dream’s emotions changed swiftly and uncomfortably.
He had a mixed feeling of relief and severe worry. The yowl was not reassuring, although he was grateful for his friend for finding her.
“Come on! We need to get to her, she’s tangled in some vines.”

Patches were tangled in a tree, a thick vine tangled around her paws and neck, slightly choking her as she let out small whimpers.
“How do you think this happened?” George asked nervously.
Dream didn’t respond, he was occupied with rummaging through his bag and his gaze was away from George’s.
Dream eventually brought out a pair of scissors, and his companion looked at him dumbfounded.
“How do you have that?”
Dream rolled his eyes.
“I brought it to help cut the apples from the trees.” George made a small ‘oh’ sound.
“Wow, it seems like that you’re not only short, but you’re stupid aswell.”
It was George’s turn to roll his eyes.
“I’ll hold Patches and you’ll cut off the vines, she’ll be fine since she trusts you and the only reason she ran is because she was distressed.”
Dream nodded and adjusted the scissors in his hands. The kitten was petrified when it first saw the scissors, although she eventually calmed down as every vine was cut.
Snip
Snip
George’s grip on Patches tightened slightly when Dream was up to the last vine and when it was cut, she immediately fell into George’s embrace and licked him once before elegantly leaping at Dream. He let out a laugh.
______________
The Bright moon illuminated the twilight sky.
It was dark now and it was time for the three (Patches included!) to head home. They were familiar with the path home, having walked down the forest multiple times and shared a couple laughs on the way. Other than those small moments, the three walked in comfortable silence.
The sandy blonde male hummed a small tune.
I still remember the third of December.
He started singing softly.
“Me in your sweater, you said it looked better
On me, than it did you, only if you knew
How much I liked you, but I watch your eyes.”
Dream began to sing louder, more confident. Patches purred gently and manoeuvred around Dream’s feet.
“As she walks by
What a sight for sore eyes
Brighter than the blue sky
She's got you mesmerized
While I die
Why would you ever kiss me?
I'm not even half as pretty
You gave her your sweater
It's just polyester
But you like her better
Wish I were”
“Heather.” Dream and George chorused softly as crisp leaves fell from the trees. Carried by the breeze;
An Autumn Breeze.
