Mystery Teens & Young Adult

A couple, Noah and Olivia, wanted to find some time away together from their two daughters, so they went on a trip to Colorado. They wanted to find a good restaurant to eat at because they had been driving so long, as they got into this cute little town right outside of where they were going, they saw a restaurant, it looked too nice to pass up so they stopped and got something to eat. As they got back in the car, Olivia told Noah they needed to find somewhere to stop for the night, as it was getting dark and neither of them wanted to drive in the dark.

As Noah and Olivia traveled a little bit further down the road, they saw a beautiful row of cabins, all lined perfectly together with each looking the same as the other, appeared on the horizon. Though it would have been a lovely place to stay for the week, it must have been extremely expensive, Even so, they still decided to go to the little cabin in the front to see if they could stay.

As they walked into the cabin, it looked much nicer on the inside than the out, with huge windows almost everywhere you looked, a breathtaking view, and a large chandelier right in the middle of the main room. There was a small desk in the far right corner of the building.

“Hello there,” said the man at the desk. “How may I help you?”

“We would like to stay a few nights in one of your cabins.” said Olivia

“Ahhh, those ones out there?” asks the man, pointing to the rows of cabins outside the huge windows

“Yes, We would like to stay for a week, if possible.”

“Well those are all full at the moment, but I do have a few vacant ones out of town, you're welcome to them.”

Noah looks at Olivia and can see the sadness in her eyes

“We would like to stay in one, please.” said Noah

The man headed to the back and came back a few minutes later with nothing but a small key. He handed the key to Noah and said nothing but “Down the road about a mile and to the left.”

Noah and Olivia traveled for about another mile down the road and found a small, solitary cabin in the back of some trees.

“Well, I guess this is us.” Says Noah

As they walked up to the door, they didn't see anything out of the ordinary. They just decided it's best to go to sleep and find something to do in the morning.

The next morning Noah woke up to screaming, “Oliva?” Noah said as he bolted from the bed. “Olivia,” Where are you?” He ran around the cabin, and, as he stepped into the small, wooden kitchen he saw Olivia, cooking breakfast.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

“I'm great,” she said. Why?”

“I heard you scream.”

“I didn't scream,” she said as she gave Noah a weird look, “I think you're hearing things.”

Before giving Noah a chance to answer,  she said, “Oh, and have you looked outside? There's so much snow.”

Without saying a word, Noah walked over to the big, large windows in the living room. The world outside was a winter wonderland, with the snow at least being knee-high.

“We should go sledding,” Olivia said.”

Noah, still half asleep from being woken up, said, “That sounds like fun.” “Let's go out and look at the snow first, though.”

Olivia and Noah race over to the other side of the living room to the two big doors in the middle of the room.

Noah pulled the door handle a few times before he looked at Olivia

“It wont open.”

“What do you mean, it won’t open?.”

“Try it.”

As Olivia pulled the door knob, she, too, had no luck.

“The lock must be frozen,” Olivia said.

Noah and Olivia ran around, trying to find some other way to get out.

“Olivia! Come in here,” Noah yelled after a few minutes of searching.

Oliva ran to the next room, where Noah stood with a large object in his hand.

“What is that?” she asked.

“Do you even have to ask?” He threw it against the wall. “It's a camera. A security camera.”

“Where did that come from?”

“I found it under the desk.”

“Why would that be in there?”

“What do you think?” he asked “They’re spying on us.”

They both started walking around the house, inspecting every last inch of the cabin.

“Noah!” Olivia called from the living room.

“What did you find?”

She pulled aside the rug in the middle of the floor and revealed a small hatch.

“Where does it go?” Noah asks

“I didn't look.”

Noah pulled open the hatch and headed down, thought he barely fit inside , Olivia followed.

They crawled through, and, after a few minutes, they came across a large piece of wood.

Noah made the move to pull it aside, but he stopped before he looked up.

“What is it?” Asks Olivia

“Do you hear that?”

As they sat there, quietly, footsteps came from above.

Noah pulled aside the wood, and they crawled out of the other side.

“Run.” he said. “Get in the car.”

Out of breath, they jumped in the car and drove as fast as they could, the kids were so excited to see their parents, even though it's only been a day, that they didn't even question why they were back so soon.

About a week later, they had woken up early and were waiting for the kids to get up. Turning on the news, they heard a man being interviewed about a recent murder.

“Are you telling me no one was ever suspicious?” says the lady interviewing him.

“Oh, yes, of course.” the man replied. “Not long ago, I had a couple stay in a cabin of mine, I locked the door from the outside and set up cameras everywhere. I planned to keep them there for awhile, but they managed to escape.”

Noah and Olivia look at each other in disbelief.
