He who never believed in love was given a gift
It was a cold silver day. It's December , happiness and joy lingered in the atmosphere. The streets decorated with red and white candy canes, miniature Santa dolls, Christmas lights and sale posters plastered everywhere your eyes would ever reach . Sale! sale! sale! .Among the flexes and posters he found the store he was looking for; a cheap store that sold used clothes
Ding! Opening the door he, a tall handsome man entered the store.
"Can i get a coat ?" he asked. He slammed his hands against the counter.
"Yes, at the aisle on the right" . The shop was one that sold used clothes that were still wearable. He searched through the racks to find the right one fitting his size . He took out a long trench coat it seemed to be tailored just for him; he looked simply charming in them .It highlighted his deep blue eyes ,his slicked back jet black hair and his strong jawline .He looked like a model straight out of a magazine. He tried on various coats and at last picked the long brown trench coat
He approached the counter
"can i get a discount"
"Yes of course sir". He handed the coat to the shopkeeper. The shop keeper searched for the tag
“That would be $28” the shop keeper said
“That’s a lot”
“Hand in the money” the shop keeper told ,his voice grumpy. He handed in the money and left the shop .He made his way through the snow covered roads .It felt lonely. He glanced at the couples some with their fingers intertwined ,some with their lips pressed against each other, they were practically glued to each other. But never have he felt love was everlasting
He opened the door to his house and got in. He took out the coat and tried it on in front of the full length dressing mirror. He had to admit it looked good on him he posed in front of the mirror. he put his hands inside the side pockets his chin raised posing like a model . He loved the feel of the dress .He absolutely loved it
“What a fool to give it away.”
He pushed his hands further in deep . Trying to pose a little different he changed his angle . Something felt cold against his fingers he wrapped his fingers around it and pulled it out. It was a platinum ring
Wow . I could sell it .
He wasn't rich he was struggling to meet his ends and this seemed like a gift from god , something that could fill his stomach for a week at least He dreamed about how he would sell it and make some money which would be enough to spend his Christmas lavishly
He raised it to his eye level and observed there was something engraved in it
To my love, Rose Williams
love...he pondered for a moment .He knew it was precious. The owner probably left it there accidentally .Either that or he is mad. He pocketed the ring
Well the question is should i or should i not sell that ring?. He wasn't a honest man
We'll decide it later the man entered the shop again .
"How much for this ring"
"Wont sell for much" he commented
Was he playing this is a freaking ring it should cost more
"Lad i know its not yours"
"What are you saying?"
Here its the address of Rose Williams
No point in hiding it anymore
.He threw his hands in the air "I’m caught " he laughed sheepishly. The ring in his hand .
The shop keeper slipped a note. Here its her address give it to her.His brows formed a crease
"why should i?"
"should i call them? "
"Them? Who?"
"who else, the police"
"i didn't do anything wrong".
The shop keeper stared at him
"OK OK i get it"
He exited the store, the ring in one hand and the note in another . Before slipping the ring into his pocket he gave it one last glance ‘trouble’ he muttered .
He looked at the map at the directions the shop keeper gave him. He followed them step by step .And carefully .He didn't want to spent rest of his Christmas in a shabby cell.Although it shattered his dreams , he reluctantly agreed to it.He made his way through the lonely streets
Ding! He pressed his finger against the doorbell. There was no reply .He once again pressed his finger against the doorbell .
"Who is it?" .The old lady asked as she peeped through the door .
"Oh my, whats such a handsome lad doing in front of my door?"
He felt happy inside it might actually be worth it coming here he thought .
Oh come in
She is a bit too friendly.
She should be more guarded against strangers. Strangely he felt concern rise for the women as he watched her silhouette focusing on keeping him warm and comfortable
A Japanese tale of ya-mamba came to his mind the hair on the back of his head stood up .He became to prepare himself to run shifting to his right leg just like a runner waiting for the signal. The old lady came and smiled at him gently .
I almost forgot
He thought as his fingers searched for the ring deep inside .He searched it deeper
Where is it did he lose it
He felt chills run through his spine .
He handed her her the slip instead. He told me to give you this . Ah got it he took out the ring and gave it to her
Ah she said as she held it close to his heart .Ah its important. He is still too shy she said
He felt satisfied seeing her smile
Doing a good deed inst all that bad
"You know love is important young man"
He wanted to go back but she didn't allow . You saw him didn't you .
Who
hmm...he looks old he has white beard his eyes were grey he looked homeless she went on describing him
Why did he feel like he knew him from somewhere
Ah he exclaimed
He was my first love but we couldn't get married under certain circumstances . But he still sends me something every Christmas. A smile bloomed on her face thinking about it.
If he got information about it maybe he could use it against the old man he thought.
At least i can tease him
It all began when we were kids he asked me to marry him . I agreed but our status were different . A romance like romeo and Juliet that’s what i would say
She explained the story in detail to him .
Various emotions went through him from embarrassment to heartache everything. He exits the house
It was worth it he looked behind he no longer saw the house nor did he saw the shop keeper. Perhaps that was his Christmas present the one whom didn't believe in love now believed in it
