Eva turns on her phone. She calls her friend Elsie. "Hello," answers Elsie. "It's me!" "I got my new phone girl!" says Eva. Elsie replies, "how'd you get a new one so soon?" "I found it on Facebook market" she replies. Elsie asks, "can you trust something you bought off social media?" "Yes!" says Eva. "I'll take some selfies so you can see." "Okay, well senior picnic is in a few days, so you're definitely going to need a phone to take pictures," states Elsie.
Eva hangs up her call with Elsie. She switches on the camera to test it out.
Eva holds the phone up and takes a picture of herself.
She looks at the photo and smiles. "I look cute in this selfie, I'll post it!" Eva looks at the picture closer and noticed a small blur behind her in the picture. "Wait what is this?" "I can't post this picture with a blurry spot." "Ugh, I'll take another one later.
"I'm on my way now." Eva hangs up her phone and climbs into her white Malibu. She pulls down the mirror to check her appearance. She puffs out her hair and noticed how the sun looks shimmering on her brown skin. "Let's try this selfie thing again." She holds up her phone to take a picture.
Eva checks her picture. "Wow, this would be a great picture if this dang spot wasn't there," she said. She rubs the camera lens on her phone, hoping that fixes the issue. She pulls off out of the driveway. She turns on the radio.
"The parents of Suzi, the teen-aged girl found dead in her room two weeks ago, report the police still have not found any suspects. They told sources they have moved out of their home, due to the painful reminder of their daughter's death. They have donated a lot of their belongings as they rushed to leave-.... "
Eva changes the station. "That's depressing, I need some happy music in my life."
Eva and her friends are outside at the park, enjoying their senior picnic. They have blankets spread out on the ground and sacks of lunch. "Ok let's a get a picture of our seniors shirts!" Eva motions for three of her friends to slide in for a picture. Two more kids jump in as well. "Say cheese!" Click. Eva's friends hover around her to look at the photo. "Wow, your used phone does take great pictures," Elsie states. Eva holds up her phone, "I told you."
She turns the camera around to herself to take a selfie. She pulls the phone down close to her face to check the picture. Elsie looks over here shoulder. "Who is that in the back?" "It looks like someone tried to get in your selfie, but I can't tell who it is?" Eva turns around. She looks behind her. She looks back at the phone. "I didn't see anyone when I was taking the picture" she says. "Maybe you weren't paying attention," Elsie tells her. Eva shrugs her shoulders.
Eva sits on her bed looking through her phone. Her mom yells and tells her put the phone down and go to bed. "I am!" She yells back. Eva looks through her phone. She looks at the pictures she took of herself. "Why is this only in my selfies?" "I know!" Maybe it's the front camera that's messed up and not the back camera!" Eva stands up and flips her phone around to take a picture of herself with the back camera.
She turns her phone around to look at the picture. She shrieks and drops the phone. Eva is scared and frozen in place. She is afraid to move or turn around to face what she saw on her phone. Eva finally decides to look and see what was behind her in her photo.
"AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!"
Eva's mother hears her scream. She runs into her room and sees Eva lying on the floor. Eva's eyes and mouth are wide open, and she isn't breathing. Her mom screams and drops to the ground to hold her. She sees Eva's phone and grabs it to call 911. She opens the phone and looks at the last picture Eva took. Eva suddenly takes a deep breathe of air and sits up.
Her mom is startled and jumps up. "Eva, what is that in your picture?!" Eva smiles and grabs the phone. She points to the picture and says, "me." Her mom says, "no Eva." "I'm not talking about you." "I mean this." Her mom points to the shadow figure behind her in the photo.
Eva looks up, and her eyes roll to the back of her head. She levitates off the ground. In a deep voice, she says, "I know." "That's me."
*two weeks later
Elsie visits her friend Eva’s house. She hadn’t see or heard from her in weeks. She is recording a live video as she approaches the door. The front door is cracked so she walks in. She tells her audience she is going to surprise her friend and sneak up to her room. She climbs the stairs, quietly and peeks through the door of Eva’s room. She thinks she sees Eva on the floor. Elsie pushes open the door and yells, “surprise!” she takes a closer look and sees Eva’s mom lying dead and rotting on the floor. She screams.
