I walk up to the booming house. Music threatens to break the seams of it. People loiter around outside, red solo cups in their hands. Some people are smoking, it drifting up into the sky, white against the dark sky.
I walk past them, and one of them blows smoke in my face. It stinks. I ignore them, and pretend that they do not exist. Annoying individuals.
Inside the house there are many people, dancing, and more red solo cups. Slinky dresses, and loose hair. Some people are already stumbling around. Slinky guys in the corner, staring at dancing girls.
I go to the table where you an acquire a red solo cup. Someone pours in coke and rum into it from me. I say thanks, before guzzling it down in thirsty big gulps. It warms me up on the inside, and gives me a nice feeling. More confident.
I walk to the dance floor, with my red, sequined mini dress clinging to my body. Due to the fact that I am an absolute light weight, I can already feel the alcohol allowing me to feel more comfortable. I dance over to a curly headed dude, who is dancing by himself, and who is quite skilful. Than I accidentally stumble, with my tall heels, and hit his shoulder. Oops. I'm very glad I do not have any drink in my hand anymore, as I would have spilled all over him. He looks at me, and than reaches out to grab my arm and steadies me.
"Thanks, sorry about that." I manage to choke out. Well this is rather embarrassing. I am praying for the ground to swallow me whole, but due to the fact that this is not my day, such a thing does not happen.
I notice red and blue flashing through the window. Cops! At the same time someone yells, it, and through the old house the yells are echoed, cops, cops. I see some of them come through the front door. I rush to the back, trying to run in my heels is difficult. I however am not going to take the chance of running through the city chased by cops on bare feet.
One outside, I am going down a random alley that I have never been down before. Not to many people have came this way. Only one actually. Curly headed dude. I slow down to a walk, as who really cares if it is just the two of us.
"Hey" I call out. I do not want to be in this alone. I mean, it is dark out, and this is the city. I was born and raised here, but I have respect for the city at night.
I wait for him to catch up with me. He soon does.
"Well hello. How are you still wearing those heels?" He asks motioning to my feet, which to tell the truth, are not feeling to crazy lovely at this moment.
"Um, probably because these are the only shoes that I have with me, and because I do not want to run through the city barefooted, even though I am debating if that is the better choice at this moment." I say. He reaches into his backpack. Huh, how did he find time to grab that? And hands over a pair of old chuck tailors.
"Oh, thank you so much" I say, and slip of the high heels. My feet sigh in relief to be in runners again.
"Your welcome. Must be your lucky day." He says with a grin. Ok, at least one good thing happened to me today. I still glare at him. In my dress the police are most likely going to notice that we had been attending the party. I mean its not like I would wear this on a normal daily basis.
"Ok, so now that I am stuck with you, whats your name?" I ask. I do not think he goes to my school. I know he does not go to my school. I would have noticed somebody that looks like him. Based on whats all happened tonight, I would dare to say that I at least have earned the right to know what his name is.
"Jackson." He says glancing at me. His eyes are green. Like a really cool green. "And you are?"
"Dani, short for Danielle, which I do not consider a highly attractive name, so call me Dani." I say.
"Ok Dani." He says, and I smile at him. We walk around a corner, nor really paying attention, which is a big mistake.
"Shit cops." Jackson hisses. One of the cops notices and shouts. We run down the alley way we came from. Due to the fact that I have these shoes on now, I am able to outrun the cops, who are weighed down by heavy gear, and pay a bit too many stops at the doughnut shops.
Out of the corner I see Jackson trip, and barely manage to get up. The cop almost catches him, but Jackson is fit, and one upright, manages to catch up with me, and we leave the cops behind. My side is beginning to not feel the greatest, but I keep going, turning down another alley, and a another quick turn, and I do not hear them following us anymore, so I slow back down to a walk, and breathe hard, trying to catch my breath.
Jackson comes up beside me.
"Huh, that, huh, was huh, very huh exhilarating." He manages to pant out. I nod my head, eyes laughing.
"Yup." Once we both have caught our breath, we take a look around us. Its dark, only a lone, dim, flickering street lamp casts a bit of light, and that is off in the distance, causing eerie shadows.
We hear a motor, and instinctively cower in a doorway. The headlights catch us though. I freeze, hoping the car drives on past. It stops, and three large guys come out, walking towards us.
Jackson steps out in front of me.
"What do you guys want?" He asks.
"Your on our territory, you don not get to asks questions." The first guys says, silencing the both of us.
Jackson swears under his breath. I tense. One of the guys tries to make a grab at me, I shrink back, and give a little yelp. Jackson steps forward, and rushes the guy. I scream as two guys start attacking him. The third one clamps a big hand over my mouth. I squirm, and twist, trying to break free out of the tight gripping hold. He has it so that my arms are twisted behind my back, and so that I am pressed against a wall. My head is pressed against the wall, and I can see the two other guys, and Jackson.
One guy is holding him, while the other is punching him. Blood is smeared over his face. He is almost falling, and his curly hair is hanging down.
The guy grabs me, and shoves me into the back of the car. I don't even try to fight. We are put in the back of the car, and there is bars, so that we cant attack whoever is in the front. Jackson is shoved in after me. He groans, and slumps against the door as soon as it is closed.
We sit in silence for a while.
"You know what Dani, we are going to figure this out." He says. I decide to go ahead and believe him.
