My Name Is Benjamin Snowden Meyer,

I need to write this time down before I am gone for good. That is what she would have wanted. I guess I just got so caught up in her leaving, that I forgot to tell our story. Now it is my time and I will make sure not to forget again. Here it goes;

So it was just a usual day for me and- no, No and NO! I didn't give you guys a setting, you don't even know anything about me, other that I am currently old and my name! So when I was 26 years old, I had my own little house in the urban area and I worked as an Architect. I went to public school from 1st to 12th grade, you ask what is different than just saying I went to public school than saying I went for 1-12 grade? Well, I like to be specific and since I went to a private college, so I in theory, went to private school. I think I am talking around the point again... Now, where was I? Oh yea the setting, I lived in a small house designed and constructed by myself and had no family or pets. To be fair I had a decent circle of friends... wow that sounded a lot more boring than I thought...

So one morning I woke up, ate (fried eggs and some cereal, because it tastes good and it doesn't make me feel too full), then I went to work and eventually came home. I slept a little bit, ate, you know the usual and I just started a REALLY good book and then- what? Oh you would like to know what book I am reading. Basically, I have friends and relatives who work at a bookbinding company and they get early releases of a lot of books to take home under the condition of copyright stuff, so I got this book that is not all that known yet but is written by a rather small author named

J. K. Rowling, he might turn out big at some point but who knows. There are some silly rumors going around that he is a she to make her books sellable, yet again they are too good to be written by a woman (Please readers do not take offense, remember this is happening in the past). The actual title was something like beasts, or... got it! Fantastic Beasts! Please excuse me for a second I have to change my teeth and take some pills. [scrambeling noises in the house as well as water droplets and some metal rattling]

Okay I am back! Oh my gosh I just realized how 'off topic' I got again! I know excuses don't make it any better, but still, I am 89 years old! 89! So I have reason to forget.

I was halfway into the book when a doorbell rang.

I checked to see and I wasn't too sure who it was.

In the person's eyes, I could see mixed emotions;

nervosity, curiosity, happiness, mistrust, and a mix of hope aa well as regret. (Don't worry we stood there for a long time and I went to psychology classes so I had a lot of time to think who she is)

"Is there a reason that I am unaware of which bring you here?"

"Well, I see you have changed a little over the years, may I come in?"

"Sure why not"

"I am going to ask you a question, and please answer honestly, and seriously; Do you remember me?"

"No... Should I?"

"Does the following name trigger any memories; Cornelia.?"

Suddenly I remembered, but it couldn't be, or could it?

Okay I need to slow down and catch you up on something that happened when I was in 10th grade. I was the average student,

I was pretty well balanced. I did some track and field and had a good shape. I was also academically fine (I'm not going to brag, but I was more than fine). And to put the cherry on top I was well known, somewhat respected, and I was fine where I was, on the social food chain. Then I met somebody and made a lot of effort to get their attention (in a good way, letters poems, academical awards, etc.)

but no matter what I did she wouldn't try to know me for who I really was, since at school I had my shell on where ever I went to protect myself from the people in the school of any further damage (mental) meaning that I was always ready to roast people, always ready to defend myself, always ready for something bad. This of course meant that I was not known as the most open and nicest person which of course was not a benefit. And after all these years she came back.

"You were right" she sighed

"About what" I wondered

"In the end what I wanted is somebody kind and smart"

"Thank you, and we both know your comment went both ways"

Thank you for reading, I really tried to make this nice, this is also my first time writing on reedsy so pls. Don't be too critical. I hope you enjoyed this story and have a good time. I also tried to make this switch between the old man's perspective and the flashbacks perspective.

----------- --------- ------------- ----------- -------- ------

Summary:

There is an old man about to die who made an oath to his wife that he would tell the story of how they meet. Throughout the story the narrator gets back to real life and momentarily interrupts the story. The main flashback of how they meet is told in 3rd person limited.

And as of such it seems more like a mix of a journal and a story than a conversation. The core of this story is that a person had a crush on someone and then later on in life, the women he had a crush on came back because he was right all along;

That no matter how great some people seem, in the end it is about who treats you and others the best.
