“I could finally go on the Alcove Train in West Virginia”. My name is Martha Smith. I have always wanted to go on that train. The Alcove Train is not just a train, it is a train where you can take a tour through the Bunny Man tunnel and you might get to hear the screams of Screaming Jenny.
I have always been fascinated by legends. One of my favorite legends is the story of the screaming Jenny. People legends, historical legends, anything that has legend in the name. Bunny man is a man that is wearing a white bunny costume with big, bright eyes and worst of all, he kills kids. He would kill them going through the tunnel which we are going to pass through as well.
To be honest, I am a little scared.
Screaming Jenny was a beautiful girl named Jenny. She had olive skin and dark brown hair. She loved watching the fire burn in the night. One night she went camping and made a fire and watched it burn as she regularly would. Then a spark from the fire landed on her cream white dress and set her dress on fire. The fire got bigger and bigger on her dress. She was next to a rail road so she got in the tracks trying to get their attention to help her. It only made it worse. The train didn’t stop in time. She got hit by the train and died. But on this train, I could actually relive the moment in time.
Where Bunny man stood for children passing and where screaming Jenny screamed for help from the train we are riding on now. We aboard the rusty, beat up, old train. When I step in, it’s like a rush of cold, old people smell, slaps me in the face. I cough and sit down on the red leather seats. The wood that my head was leaning against was spruce wood that was coated in clear epoxy to make it look shiny. The roof was cream white just like Jenny’s dress and the walls around the windows were black. There were newspapers in frames all over the walls telling the history and how it made the news. The one right next to me had a dark oak frame with an old piece of newspaper in it saying the date of 1765. The one on the other side of me had a blue Polaroid camera that looked similar to mine encased in glass. I thought to myself ‘that is an old piece of newspaper.’ I get myself comfortable for a long ride to the tunnel and the campfire place where Jenny was. The conductor of the train stood up in front of the aisle and said “alright folks, this is a unusual trip of the Bunny Man and Screaming Jenny. We are going to visit their sites where they were last seen. Do not be afraid for they are long gone and cannot see, hear, hurt, or touch you. We will stop the train where the scenes were and you may take pictures, but you will not and I repeat will not touch anything. Thank you. hope you enjoy the ride.” After that speech, a huge shiver went down my spine. Then the train jerked forward. The next thing I know, the train is off and going. I looked around for about thirty minutes and then the train came to a slow stop. “We are at the Bunny Man stop.” Said the conductor. I stood up and stepped into the sun. There it was, the bridge. It was the bridge of the Bunny Man who killed hundreds of children. It was a tunnel with an outline made of wood. There was what looked like a shop. It was broken down, some wood pieces were missing, and it was as dark as night, even though it was midday. I wanted to go inside so I asked the conductor if I could. He said yes. I stepped quietly inside, looking around. I stopped. I heard something. It sounded like a toddler giggling as if it was playing with a toy. Then out of the darkness came a white, tall, bunny costume shaped like a man. I was terrified. I blinked and it was gone. I thought to myself ‘on that note, I will get back on the train’ and darted to the open door of the train. “You alright?” Asked the conductor. I replied “I saw him. The Bunny Man.” The conductor said “no you did not. He is far from gone.” I thought that was true, but the opposite. He was far from being gone, he was alive. I take my seat with that picture of him just in the darkness, just standing there engraved in my brain. “Next stop, the scene of screaming Jenny.” The conductor said. Hopefully Jenny was not alive either. I see a whole pile of white fabric in the tracks ahead of us. It was very white. I thought that Jenny’s dress was cream, not white. I got out of the train when it came to a stop and I step on the rocky surface of the tracks. I took a closer look at the fabric and realized that it had been bleached by the sun. I look up only to see the campfire wood that Jenny had used to make that fire. This was the part that I had wanted to see the most so I ran back in the train and grabbed my navy blue Polaroid camera to take a picture of the burnt wood. I rushed over to the pile of wood. I got my camera ready and CLICK. My camera took the picture. I quickly took out the picture of it and aired it out so I could see it better. As soon as it did, I saw her. Screaming Jenny was standing above the fire in the picture. I looked back at the fire and she was not there. I went to take a picture again to see if it was just my camera getting a glimpse of her. And there she was again in the picture. I try to run back to the conductor to tell him that I have a picture of it. I rush in and stare at him. I said “come here, I have to show you that there is the ghost of Jenny here.” I grabbed his arm, but my arm just flew right through. He, the conductor, was a ghost. Then he said “I know.” I was shocked. I turn around hoping to get another glimpse of her, but I got something else. Bunny Man and Screaming Jenny were in the doorway waiting for me to get me or do something to me. They spotted me about to come out and flew after me. Bunny Man caught me. I knew this was the end. My camera dropped to the ground. I ran over to the chair where I originally was sitting and looked over at the navy blue Polaroid camera. All I could do right now is read what is says, before who knows what they are going to do to me. ‘This camera was dropped by a girl named Martha Smith. She sadly died to Bunny Man and Screaming Jenny as a ghost.’ That is me. That is my camera. I already died, she finally realized. I am a ghost. I look over and there was nothing. Bunny Man and screaming Jenny were gone. The train conductor was gone. Blackness all around her. That is how she would spend the rest of her afterlife.
