WHAT A PRAYER CAN DO
My name is Solomon Katlholo and this is my story of what a prayer can do. I went to Gaborone on the 29th of September 2016 to celebrate Independence Day with my friend Donald Keakopa, but it turned out not as planned. The person I was supposed to celebrate with apparently was on duty at his work at Total filling station, so i decided to go watch a match at the stadium on the Independence Day on the 30th of September 2016. That’s when I took a leap of faith going on a vacation to Rustenburg, right after the independent game of Botswana versus Angola which The Zebras won 2-1. I sneaked out of the country without telling anyone. I actually didn't intend to, I just felt left off and that’s pissed me off, so i decided to get away from the place and go somewhere i don’t know, where nobody knows me, to refresh my mind a little bit. I dived into this unplanned journey rushly not knowing what I'm getting myself into. That was 4 days after I got my passport and I can tell it felt really good as i crossed the Ramotswa and Swartkopfontein border.
I arrived in Rustenburg around 20:00pm and virtually I didn't know anyone so I had to look for hotels and guest houses for accommodation. I walked around asking people, i came across three guys by Bravo bar, they attacked and robbed me, and they took everything I had. My clothes and my money but they left the phone; they were holding knives so i couldn’t fight back. I thought I was going to have a great vacation. After all, it was the worst, just on the first day of arrival and I got robbed. I didn’t know where to go, i didn’t know what to do, i didn’t know who to talk to. So i slept on the street, the next i had to look for money to go back home. I went by the shops opposite the bus rank, and i saw a crowd, i went by and there was a little gambling game that was being played, and in this game you can bet with anything that you have. There was a guy in the middle with three cups, one cup had R200 in it, so he’d do his tricks changing the cups with a blink of an eye, when you guess you get R200. I watched for a few minutes because I was desperate for money. I just jumped into it and bet with my phone, unfortunately I lost and my phone was gone. I was left with nothing, I thought of looking for a job, I went to every restaurant, bars, filling stations, and every domestic’s job you can think of even security and still got rejected. It was difficult to get a job, i tried cleaning car windscreens during the stops, i got chased away.
I slept on the street for five days and I found a shelter in Zinniaville. I barely eat because every cent I had, I saved for transport back home, 10 days passed and I still haven’t made enough money. On the 16th day I decided to walk from Rustenburg, South Africa to Botswana. Before I could start my journey I went by the nearest church. Truly God has his ways of doing things; I knelt down and prayed, asking God for protection and to watch over me on my way. While i was praying a white lady came to me and introduced herself and asked me my name, she asked, “how are you doing?” I said, “I’m fine.” she said, “young man, it is my first time i see you in this church, I’m really glad you could come here to worship with us.” i said, I’m glad i came here too, to ask God for a protection against the world’s evil deeds. I’m actually walking to Botswana today. I have been here for a long time so I’m going home.” she said God bless you then we went our separate ways, i walked out of the church without fear, full of energy and very active. I had faith and I believed that nothing bad would happen to me because I was walking with God and it true I was.
Just when I could leave Rustenburg I found another man by the Caltex filling station down the road, I asked him for directions to Zeerust, and I told him that I was walking. He looked at me like he had seen a ghost and said, “Dude you must be insane, you are walking to Zeerust. Well, good luck.” that was it, i got on the road, i walked for 20 kilometers and i got a lift in a truck, he was going to Phokeng so after a few hours, he got off the truck, he went to his destiny. I continued with mine too. I walked on the getting lifts until I arrived in Zeerust. I rested for 30 minutes, it was getting late now I prayed and continued with my journey. walked for 44 kilometers from Zeerust to Lobatse, you know i didn’t care anymore about where I’d sleep even if i arrived late there, all i wanted is to get there, as long as I’m in Botswana that’s okay. Luckily just when i arrived in Lobatse i passed by the nearest bar and thank God i met my former classmate Calvin, i told him my story and he offered me accommodation, the next day he gave me money for transport.
“What a prayer can do is much more powerful than anything. God answers all prayers but not all, he answered those that give meaning, those who believe and have faith.”
Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock, and it will be opened to you. Matthew 21:22 and whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.” Mark 11:24 therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
