Jack lived in a small house on a hill with his mother Joyce. As usual Joyce sent Jack into town to buy apples so she could make her delicious apple pie for dinner. As soon as he was done eating his breakfast, she put a brown basked with a little green sack, filled with some coins in it on the table.

"Jack, go and buy some red apples at the market in town." She said to him.                                                                           "Yes mother, I will do that right away."                                                                                                                       "Do not play along the way and make sure you get back soon."                                                              "I hear you mother." Jack replied.                                                                                                                                                      "Now off you go."

Jack went off into the woods taking the pathway he always took. He got into town and bought the apples. On his way back Jack remembered that his mother had told him not to play along the way, but he decided to play anyways, thinking to himself ''what could go wrong?'' As he played, he became hungry and as he became hungry, he started eating some of the apples and as he ate the apples, he grew tired and decided to take a little nap in the woods. When he woke up he played again, became hungry and ate from the apples and when he got close to home, he realized that the basked was empty.

"Oh no, what am I going do now?" Jack thought to himself.

Jack could see his mother moving around in the kitchen, through the small kitchen window as he walked up the hill. As he got closer he was thinking of what to tell his mother. He walked into the house with his head down, his face was red and his eyes full of tears. He was out of breath it seemed, his mother was terrified by what she saw.

"Jack my child what is wrong?" Joyce asked in fear.

"Oh mother you won't believe what I went through."

                    "Tell me my child."

"As I was on way back from town, just here in the woods close to the house a wolf jumped out of nowhere and started chasing me. I was so scared that I started running so fast and I forgot that I had those precious red apples in the basked, when I got here the basked was empty."                                                                                                                                         "Oh Jack my son I'm just glad you are okay."                                                                                 "Oh me too mother."

And so Jack lied to his mother about the apples, because he was scared to get into trouble if he told his mother the truth.

The next morning Joyce sent Jack into town again, she warned him not to play along the way and to watch out for the wolf. Jack again did not listen to his mother's instructions and on his way back, he played, ate the apples and went home empty handed. When he got home that day he rushed into the house calling to his mother.

"Oh mother, you wouldn't believe what happened to me today!"                                                                 "What happened my child, tell me?"                                                                 "There was a bear today!"                                                                                                                                "A bear!?"                                                                                                                                       "Yes mother, a big bear that just came running out of the woods, I just ran as fast as I could and again I lost the apples."                                                                                                                                     "Oh Jack, are you okay my boy?"                                                                                                                                     "I'm was so frightened mother, I could have died."                                                                                                                       "But you did not die and that is all that matters right now my son."

Again Jack had lied to his mother, because he knew that he would get into trouble for not listening to her warnings.

The next morning Joyce sent Jack to town again. She warned him not to play along the way and to watch out for the bear. As always Jack did not listen to his mother and after another long day of his usual shenanigans, he came rushing home calling out loud to his mother.

"Mother there was a tiger this time, a huge tiger?"                                                               "Oh no, where did it come from?"                                                                                                                            "It came out of nowhere! And all I could think of was to run mother, I had to run for my life!"                                                                                                                                           "Oh that is horrible, I'm just glad you are safe, my boy."

Jack was becoming so good at lying to his mother, he could not wait for the next morning so he could eat some more of those delicious apples.

It was another morning again and Jack's mother sent him out to town again, but this time she suggested that Jack take another pathway in order to avoid running into those wild animals again. Jack hesitated at first because he did not know another rout into and out of town but eventually he agreed after his mother gave him clear directions of anther way.

"Hurry off now, and do not play along the way or this time you might get lost." Joyce said to him.                                                                                                                                           "Yes mother, I will be careful, I promise." Jack replied.

On his way back, while carefully trying to follow this new path back home, Jack started playing for a while and just as he was about to sit down and eat some of the apples he heard a noise in the bush ahead of him. He started becoming scared and slowly moved backwards when he heard a growl behind him. Jack froze and as he slowly turned his head he saw a very hungry looking wolf standing behind him, and just as he was about to run a tiger jumped out of the bush in front of him. Jack was filled with so much fear his eyes almost popped out. On his left he heard the heavy footsteps of what sounded like a bear, he was so frightened that he did not even want to move his head to see what it was. Jack already knew that it could be a bear, because of all the lies that he had told his mother about these animals. Filled with so much fear Jack dropped the apple basked and screamed out loud for his mother. There was nowhere for him to run and right there the three animals tore Jack into pieces, the only thing left of him was the basked of red apples and that is all his mother found when she went looking for him in the woods.

I liked the classic fairytale style of this! A few places read a little awkward with typos or repeated words, so I’d suggest an extra edit through next time. But I liked that this was indeed a cautionary tale and Jack learned his lesson a little too late. Good job overall!
