Fiction Urban Fantasy Teens & Young Adult

Men are like apes; yes, they love to explore, play and have fun and fight and yet so hard to make up their minds, which is indeed true.

I had a friend Emily who saw a boy named Jack last fall, and their story started just like, how many, movies would write their scenes. The female character was naive and innocent, and he was a handsome dude living in the suburbs, and to my wildest surprise, they met ...strange, right? They did... Let's find out how?

Emily was the urban Girl looking for some love, sex, and some fun. Even though, she is highly ambitious when it comes to fulfilling her career goals. Her blunt approach couldn't allow her to make the cut, whether in her school or workplace.

Despite the hustle and bustle of city life, Emily could barely make friends or meet someone who can sweep her off her feet. She waited and waited to meet her knight in Shining armor but what she met was a kid that she had to babysit.

It still makes me wonder how they met -well, as they say, everything is fated, and so is my friend's love story too, and can you guess how did her so-called knight in shining armor showed up?

Keep guessing and let me tell you what happened before that. One day, Emily was at work and she got a phone call from Glencoe(a suburb near Chicago) that her grandma was sick and counting her last breath. So she rushed to see her dying grandma at the hospital, and that's when she met this blue-eyed doctor to not only save her grandma but also heal her heart.

The doctor was way too younger than Emily; well, they say age is just a number when you fall in love, and so that's how their love saga began.

Emily would visit her grandma every day at the hospital and take notes of what the doc advised her. After she went home, she would reread them and come up with questions to ask the doc. The next day, the doc would explain her patiently while looking deeply into her mesmerizing eyes.

It's just been a week, and grandma recovered and responded to the treatment well amidst the heartfelt exchanges between Emily and Jack.

Emily filled the formalities to take her Grandma home, but she was sad to leave the hospital as she would miss Doctor Jack's presence and the exhilaration and their attraction towards each other.

The doctor wondered how to ask Emily's contact and whether it was appropriate to ask her, and both of them didn't utter a word of what they felt, and she returned to her grandma's home.

Emily's naivety didn't allow her to be that outspoken Girl and ask the doctor's number, but life always has a way of throwing surprises at her.

After few hours of reaching home, grandma started to feel breathless again, and she again rushed to the same clinic all on her own with her sick grandma. Emily was praying that her nanna should be okay, and she strongly believed that doctor Jack would save her, and she said "nurse, can you inform Jack that we are here"

The nurse replied "Jack quit the hospital and got a job in Chicago's city hospital"

Emily was heartbroken to hear this and couldn't contain her tears, her granny took her last gasp and passed away. She wept loudly and there was no one to comfort her.

Despite her sadness, Her mom's aunt told her to call and inform everyone about her gran's demise, and when she phoned Uncle Tom, he said "Emily sweetheart, I have to complete the legalities of your Grandma Havisham's property and that will take about a month until then I want you to stay " and he pleaded " Please stay there for a month ".

As she was wondering what to do in this humungous property, she was walking to a zoo nearby and witnessed a massive crowd as an ape was performing and entertaining the passersby;

Emily thought it was cruel to train an ape and forcing it to perform, and she wanted this solitary monkey to be free and happy, as she was reminiscing that one week of excitement with her grandma and the handsome doctor and her and their playful bantering and chemistry, but she wasn't sure if he felt the same way too.

She felt stuck in Glencoe and couldn't stop crying how the past two weeks have been, and she befriended a few zoo-goers inside the park as she was incredibly lonely and found a friend named Sarah who was also sad about the way the gorilla was treated.

Emily and Sarah thought they both could approach an organization that can save this ape from the torture it's going through. Few more people joined this initiative, and there came a handsome lad Jason, who was a member of the Anti Cruelty Society of Chicago. Jason was a vivacious young adult who wanted to have loads of fun. Soon the boring meetings became exciting and hilarious.

Jason developed strong feelings for Emily, and he couldn't take enough of her innocence. He found it funny, and he was highly heroic, and he knew how to impress her with his wit and charm.

Emily, who had deep feelings for the doc, couldn't understand how Jason felt, but she was happy around him as he cared for her.

Emily's friend encouraged her to forget the doctor as he did not even bother to contact her, and they just said he is not into you.

She could not let go of Jack, the blue-eyed doctor, and she would cry every night thinking about him.

Meanwhile, the friendly ape was set free, and he was returned to the forest where he belonged. Jason, Emily, and Sarah wanted to celebrate this, and all the three of them went to a suburb pub and got drunk.

Emily was heartbroken and vulnerable, fighting her feelings for Jack and wondering if she should move on or live her life. Jason was too sweet with her, and even her friend Sarah suggested that she should set herself free and have fun.

The music was electrifying, and the happy mood was getting contagious. And Sarah left the place so that Emily and Jason could mingle, and Jason and Emily Kissed. That was Emily's first kiss, and it was magical, and she was speechless.

Emily was never lucky in love, and she is 35 years old, and this was her first kiss. She wondered whether this would work out, and her friends told her not to jump the gun as it was just their first date.

Jason was a well-grounded individual and damn cool. But there was an air of mystery that was surrounding him. Both Jason and Emily started liking each other a lot as they began seeing each other. Emily started to enjoy this suburb and was thinking of relocating here.

While she was thinking about shifting her residence, Uncle Tom phoned her and said that he would be visiting tomorrow. He would complete the house formalities so that she could get back to town.

Emily was confused again as Jason was not serious about her. He just likes her, and she was wondering whether to stay here or leave the suburb forever.

She thought she could talk to Jason about their situation or just leave. Her friends advised her not to talk to him as it was too early and they have been seeing each other only for few months.

But Emily mustered up some courage and asked Jason whether he was serious about their connection as she wondered whether to leave her grandma's place.

Jason said, "he needed some more time to see where it goes" Emily left her suburb and lost all her hopes about love. She got back to work, and monotony was killing her.

Every day she would think maybe somehow she should have got the doctor's number. As she was beating herself up and suddenly her phone rang, and Uncle tom phones her and says, "Sweetheart, there's someone here and he wants to talk to you."

And she heard a deep male voice over the phone crying and apologizing to her "I'm sorry Emily that I kept you waiting and I have been looking for you all over Glencoe, and I didn't dare to say how I felt."

She couldn't control her happiness as she heard Jack on the other side of the phone.

Finally, just like the ape, Emily set herself free, and her knight in her shining armor made up his mind to talk to her, and they lived happily ever after in Chicago.
