American Coming of Age People of Color

I reach the end of the street, pulling in my state of conference. Stepped on out, with a wobbly foot. The air stores a smelly butter scent. Looking to my right I’m presented with a cafe shop. 

“Figured as much.” I murmured to myself crossing the street, hands stuffed in pockets, as I watch smoke escape my lips from the spell of cool air. 

 I’m reaching the other side of the street to the sidewalk when hearing someone call me by my name. “Josh?”

 I look up seeing a woman in all black with long blond hair, a lock tucked behind her ear.

“Janet!”

Stunned and cold I walk up and rub my hands together. “Janet. How—what? I don’t understand.” 

 “I’m here visiting my family, josh.” 

She smiles giving a tilt of her head, “So what’s brought you you back to this place?”

I can’t answer for my mouths open in astonishment. This woman’s body. Plumped in all the right places. 

“Y—you know,” I stutter scratching the back of my ear like some pot head in action of cra
