Fiction Thriller Friendship

Hailey needed a new start, and she had found a perfect little town in the mountains where she could start fresh and meet new people. She had never heard of this town before so it was perfect in her eyes, it would help her forget about the accident and she could finally move on.

As she was driving towards a new beginning, she thought back and wondered where she would be if it never happened, would she be back home with her parents, would she still be at the same mundane job and would she still be hanging around her friends who did nothing but complain about everyday life. Either way it was good that it happened because it gave her the opportunity to get away and start a happy life all on her own.

Standing at the scene of the gruesome car accident, the two police officers contemplated their next move. The accident was a frightening scene, with police cars and ambulances everywhere and people crying as they received the help they needed, although they were all rattled, the car accident could have been much more dangerous than it was, and they were all extremely grateful for that. Once the paramedic had extracted her from the mangled vehicle and brought her to the ambulance, she took a look back at the horrific site she had been rescued from.

The wreck was a gruesome sight, and it was one that she knew she would not be able to forget anytime soon, even months after the tragic car accident, it was difficult for her to recover from the fear and grief she felt and the deaths caused by the senseless accident were something that the small community would have a difficult time recovering from, the accident would stay with her for many years to come.

A few hours later Hailey arrived in Mystville, a small town in the mountains surrounded by a cavern like they were sitting atop their very own throne and the views were magnificent. She stood there and took in the fresh air and held a breath for a moment until she let it out slowly and sighed.

A while later she was at the small hotel, she would be staying there until she could find her own place so it was very quiet here, she guessed it wasn’t in season but already she felt like she had been ignored and that bothered her a little as she was new and expected at least someone to notice but they didn’t. It bothered her but not too much as it was only her first day after all and she wanted to just relax so talking to people wasn’t on her priority list right now. She changed and went to explore and take a walk round, she smiled at people as they walked past but they kept their heads down, she thought that maybe they just didn’t like new people and didn’t want to be the first to speak to her but that’s ok, she moved on.

Hailey had found a small bakery and went inside to see what goodies they had, her eyes lit up at all the different cakes and sweets they had and she vowed she would try not to get fat but just as she was about to order the lady behind the counter shouted that it was closing time and people needed to finish up and move on.

“May I just get a small cake to go before you close up?” she asked.

No response, she was ignored. The lady shouted again they were closing and people needed to start leaving or she would take their plates and throw them out. Hailey decided she wasn’t very nice and left. She spotted a small bar across the street and decided to go there and have one glass and then she’d leave.

It was busy, it seemed half the town was here and she tried to push her way to the bar but people were not moving out of the way for her it seemed they closed in more.

“Excuse me” she almost shouted, “Can you let me through please” she raised her voice a little more but no response still. “Hello, can you move?” finally two people moved, and she made her way to the bar to get her a drink. She tried to get their attention, but they just kept ignoring her, she raised her hand, her voice, practically waved in front of the bar man but he ignored her. She felt a little angry and decided to give up, so she turned to leave, she suddenly felt a chill and felt eyes on her and she looked around and caught the attention of a young man staring right at her, it gave her the creeps, so she left and hurried home.

The next day she felt a little deflated from the day before and she didn't want to do much, but she didn’t want to stay here either. She remembered there was supposed to be a small park here or something, so she decided to take a book and sit and read in the fresh air for a while and just enjoy the peace and quiet.

She arrived a short while later and felt like she had eyes on her again but wen she looked around there was nobody there, there was a couple walking a distance away and some birds pecking at the ground but other than that it was just her. She found a nice bench to sit on overlooking the small lake they had and took a sigh of relief, she was beginning to feel relaxed when she heard someone cough by her to seemingly get her attention.

“May I sit with you?” he asked.

“Of course, there’s plenty of room” she smiled as she replied.

He smiled and looked at her before turning towards the lake, so she got a quick glance at him. He was tall with dark hair, medium build, pale complexion and he had a nice smile. She turned away and sighed again.

“Is something wrong?” he asked again as he turned slightly to face her. “You seem sad”

“No, I’m fine, I just moved here actually so I was just enjoying some peace and quiet”

“Is that your way of saying leave me alone?” he chuckled.

She realized how rude that sounded. ‘’oh no, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it that way, please forgive me” she felt embarrassed.

He laughed at her, “It’s ok, I’m just teasing you. My name is Luke, pleased to meet you”

“Hailey, nice to meet you too. Can I ask something, does everyone around here hate new people?”

Luke shifted a little, “Why do you ask that?”

“It seems everyone I’ve spoke to or tried to speak to ignores me or doesn’t see me, is that normal around here?”

Luke put his head down and sighed. “Yeah, it’s normal, you’ll get used to it” He glanced over at her, “People don’t see newbies around here and they don’t speak to me either, so I guess you're one of us now” he laughed nervously.

“It’s a little rude don’t you think” she looked towards the lake, but she could tell he was looking at her.

“Sort of, I guess” he turned towards the lake, and she heard him sigh again.

Luke must be fed up with it too, but he seems nice, and he was talking to her, she decided she liked him. It had been a couple hours, and she was getting cold, Luke and she chatted a little more and she told him it had been nice talking to him and if he wanted some company she was staying at the hotel, he smiled and said he’d see her around. They both stood to leave and shook hands, Hailey turned to leave and began walking when she wanted to see if Luke would like to go for a drink one night but when she turned back Luke had disappeared like he had just vanished into thin air. She got a cold shiver and turned to walk home.

A few days had passed by and she was meeting Luke at the park to hang out and talk, it had become a regular thing the last few days and she always enjoyed his company, she wanted to ask why everyone in this town was so damn rude. Luke had mentioned they don’t like new people and they didn’t see him either as Luke normally kept to himself but it was getting a little frustrating and now she wondered if she made the right decision by coming here as she was starting to feel lonely in a way.

She stood and waved at Luke as he approached her and they both sat and smiled at each other.

“Well, how was it today, did you try the bakery again?” He asked hopefully.

“Yes and nothing” she had her head down and her voice was giving her away. “I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, do they just not like me or what, I’m really trying to fit in here” she took a big sigh and looked at Luke who was smiling back at her.

“You’ll get it, just give them some time. Maybe they just need to get used to you” he laughed, “You do look a little strange” he laughed louder this time.

“Thanks a lot, it’s not that bad is it?” she said turning her head away, as she glanced back he shrugged.

“Not to me it ain’t, but I’m biased” he grinned and Hailey nudged him with her shoulder.

“I guess I’ll get used to it and they will get used to me being around, they can’t ignore me forever right?”

“Why don’t we go together and try, safety in numbers and all that right”

“I would like that, you’ve been here a while so they should be used to you by now” she looked out over the lake. “I wish I could be more confident with stuff, I’ve always been shy and to be honest it never bothered me before but somehow it bothers me now”

“Why were you shy, didn’t you like people?” Luke smirked.

“I do like people, I’m just very closed sometimes and I think that's why I needed a new start for myself, I got bored and went out one night to try and make new friends and that’s when the accident happened but it gave me a new perspective” Hailey started to remember how she felt in her old life and it made her more determined to change for the better.

“How so?” he asked inquisitively.

“After the accident I found out who my true friends were and who really cared about me and none of my friends were there for me, not one of them and it hurt me more than the accident so I left and vowed to be better for myself” she smiled at Luke who was looking at her admiringly.

“You know what, I have just the place to go and have some fun!” Luke stood and held his hand out.

Hailey got a little excited and jumped up and took his hand. “Oh, tell me where, I want to try something different this time” she giggled.

Luke smiled at her, “Mrs. Martins house, she owns the bakery. I’ve a feeling she may still be awake” he grinned at her and took her hand and led her towards what would be a most exciting night.

~~o~~

You never believed in ghosts. You’re were always in denial, even after you become one yourself, but one day, you meet someone who tries to convince you that you’re dead and tells you a person can only gain the ability to communicate with ghosts if they have had a near-death experience, perhaps even death itself.

· Now, You can see ghosts, and they’re everywhere—and often very annoying. Ghosts can see other Ghosts, just like people can see other people. Some Ghosts highly enjoy eavesdropping on others. It’s not that people can’t see the books flying off the shelves or the locked doors suddenly swinging open, they just don’t believe a ghost is behind it, and instead think it’s the wind, the old house, neighbors, or anything else they can think of.

When ghosts run into a person, a child or an animal who can see, sense or hear them - they get a little too excited - wouldn’t you, if you were used to being largely ignored? Wouldn’t you like to cause a little chaos?
