The Fair That Never Ends

Chapter 1
“Molly!” Mom says.
“What!” I scream.
“Come down here to eat breakfast and then we have to go to the Spring fair!”
“Oh fine,” I say, as I walk down the brown wooden stairs. I hear my brother, Jake start yapping about his basketball game yesterday and how his friend Luke made the last shot to win the game. Finally, after we have our last bites of our scrambled egg, we get on our way to Miami for the spring fair. I can’t believe we are going this year, because in the past few years we have sadly had hurricane weather at this time of year.
Chapter 2
My brother, mom, and I all hop into the gray Volvo, and drive forty minutes to the spring fair. My annoying brother was complaining the whole time. As we get out of the car you can smell the fresh cut grass, and hot buttery popcorn. “Mom, I want some food”, I say. So, we head straight to the concessions, and get corn dogs, cotton candy, and four sugar donuts. Two for both me and my brother, my mom didn’t want any. We eat our corn dogs, cotton candy, and donuts.
As soon as we finish, my brother says,
“Can we go to the petting zoo?”
“No Jake” My mom replies.
“Pretty please Mom?” Jake begs.
“Fine” My mom says.
Chapter 3
As we are walking to the petting zoo we see the black metal gates surrounding the fairgrounds suddenly close and lock. We all stare at each other in shock and confusion at the same time. We see the same looks on the other guest’s faces. The realization slowly settles over us that we are locked in without any idea why or who has done this. My mom immediately takes charge and starts to try to make sense of what is happening. “Everybody stay calm we will find a way out.” She says.
“Mom, that's not helping” I say worryingly. I can tell she’s concerned by the ways she’s nervously biting her nails. But, she’s trying to remain calm to not alarm us. I quietly whisper to my brother
“ I don’t think this is a good situation.”
“I agree,” Jake replies.
Chapter 4
You can hear the panic in everyone’s voices as they whisper to each other frantically. Suddenly someone says, “Everyone try to ram into the gates with the cotton candy carts!” Everyone starts grabbing random carts and there is a stampede the size of two football fields. My mom holds Jake and I close. Nobody succeeds in taking down the gates. Everyone falls silent. I whisper,
“Mom what are we going to do?”
“I don’t know Molly, I honestly don’t have a clue.” She says with a melancholy tone in her voice. I can hear the little kids' cries. As we look up, the sun is almost down and it is getting colder as the sky turns a dark shade of indigo. We feel droplets of cold water on our skin as it starts to rain.
Chapter 5
It is now pouring with everybody trying to find shelter in the game booths. We hear the sound of an engine roar as a slimmer of hope appears. Five minutes later we hear the car drive off. The hope in everyone's hearts slowly fades away. “Mom, I am cold, and hungry what are we going to do?” I say again.
“Yeah mom what are we going to do? It is pouring out, and we are locked in.” Jake says while hugging me tightly.
“We will find a way don’t worry.” Mom says. Everyone gives up hope as the rain pours harder, and the sky gets pitch black.
Chapter 6
Two hours later at 10pm, people are starting to fall asleep, and I hear soft snoring coming from my brother, Jake. “I wish this day had gone better” I say to my mom.
“I know sweetie, me too, me too.” she says with tiredness in her voice. Then we both play on her phone for thirty minutes…... the phone dies, so we both slowly fall asleep in the frigid spring night.
Chapter 7
I open my eyes to see people rummaging around the fairgrounds trying to find something that can get us out of here. My brother is looking around too, while my mom is still asleep. I see Jake looking through a rusty food truck. I walk up to him and say, “good morning Jake, have you found anything?”
“Sorry Molly but no I haven’t” he says with a tone of rage in his squeaky voice.
“That’s okay, but keep looking.” I say. Suddenly we hear the low voice of a strong man saying, “Guys I found something, we are saved.”Everybody glances immediately over to see the man holding a note saying, ‘The key to unlock the gate.’ is under the place that challenges your fate.’ We all ran to the fate roller coaster named “ Fate world” an underground roller coaster. We look all around the dusty ride and spot a shiny box. The man who found the note with the clue on it opens the box and finds a rusty key.
Chapter 8
Everybody sprints to the gates, and anxiously waits for the man to put the key in the lock. The gates slowly open with a creak, and everyone cheers. Jake and I run to our mom, and we celebrate. Once we find somewhere that has cell service we call the police. Ten minutes later we hear many sirens blaring. We see dozens of flashing lights. The police check up on everybody to make sure everyone has no injuries. We hear some crying from more of the little children in the background as we hear a policeman say, “ All clear!” Once we hear the words “All clear!” we head to the car. We head home talking all about the crazy last two days at……The Fair That Never Ends!
