Going right will take me home. But going left would take me down past the old lake where my dad used to sail toy sailboats with me. And then beyond that was more countryside and beyond. That was Kentucky, so this time instead of going home to my wife. I decided to go toward Kentucky and I was headed that way and then I remembered. I forgot to lock my door my garage door and I said, uh oh, but I didn't want to go back for that reason. I didn't want that to stop me. So I kept going and I didn't want anyone to know where I was. I wanted them thinking I was on my way home or going to the store to pick up something for the dinner that was going to occur that night in honor of. My aunt's graduation from college. I just thought I would just go this way up for a little while. And get my thoughts together and then be until the time that I was happy to go home and I would stay out and venture by myself since I hardly got any time to do what I wanted to do when I was at home. Everyone had their capabilities, but they still had demands of me and they all. Would practically gang up on me and try to pressure me into doing all what they wanted all at the same time. Even so I was taking some time to calm down enjoying myself on this nice mild night and it was getting to be night time. Not yet, but and a nice lake and countryside so I took my car up the hill and what do you know, pud pud pud. It came to a halt. I looked over. There was one house in the distance down a long winding road. I got out my gas can and walked over. It took me about a 1/2 hour to get to the house in the distance down the path. And when I got there, there was the old man sitting in a rocking chair with a cigar. Looking at me intently and I said. Do you have any gas for me? Because my car just stopped and he said oh. Yes, sir, in the back in the garage. It's OK, it's time hold on a minute and then he said Rudy. Can you get me the key to the garage? I need to get this young fellow. Some gas, his car broke down over on the main road and she said sure and she said, gee, I don't know where did I put it? I can't find it. He said, Aw, come on Rudy. He lost, we need that key. And I said oh man. I hope she finds a key. And she finally found it in the kitchen miscellaneous drawer and then we were on our way in the back to get the gas from the main storage container in the garage. So he filled it up and I was on my way and I poured it back into my car and I drove home now. What did I learn from that? People can get along. There is love out in the countryside and peace can be found in small things. So that excursion did teach me a lesson. And I don't know if I will go that way. Or that far again, seeing as that I almost was stranded. But for now I will love and cherish the moment I spent with that couple and I will try to bring their easy going manners into my own relationships and home and life.
When I got home, my wife was like. What were you doing out so long? I thought you just went to the store for some apples for the pie and I said no I had taken a wrong turn I fibbed and she said OK, and then she laughed relieved. I'm, but I'm so glad you're home. Okay, at least and then all the kids ran up and hugged me and said oh dad, I was so worried that you something happened and everyone sat down to eat and had a good dinner. They made chicken and beef on the grill and. Then we had hot dogs and all the condiments. And we had wine and wine coolers. And some of our work associates were there and some of our children's friends. Were there and even old friends from the past had come from other states to join in the celebration of this momentous occasion.
At first.
The next morning I didn't know what to do I didn't know where I was and then I remembered what had happened the day before and I said, wow, that changed me that little couple out in the middle of nowhere. Just happy with each other and nature in the countryside and the loneliness of having no, you know, passers-by going by your house or car's honking all the time. It really can be nice and so maybe I should venture toward asking my wife if she wants to move in the country. So she
Upon being questioned this, said no way too many bugs.So we never spoke of it again.
My kids grew up to be lawyers and doctors and friends and teachers. And all the good jobs and you know typical American jobs. And so we had a typical American Family. I guess you could say that they had kids and got married and moved away to other states and vacation in Polynesia, in the South Pacific Ocean. One time there was a riot at the capital, and we all went and met there protesting the takeover of the opposing party in certain departments such as health, science and education and we actually won.It was like a wonderful feeling. We came together we rallied and we came out on top.
So just goes to show that when you put your mind to it and take a chance or otherwise.Just follow your intuition. Thanks and try to keep a variety and switch up stuff that, your daily habits and Routines in life. You can go places you can get out of your comfort zone.Try it for yourself!

I am intrigued as to who the narrator is. I know he is married with children, but I feel I am missing something about his life. Why is a simple drive out of his way such a big deal for him? I was inclined to believe he lived a quiet life in the country, but that can't be the case as that is what he felt he wanted but did not have.
The scope of the story goes from one tiny incident to a reflection on his whole life. I guess to make the point that your life is what you choose to make it by all these small daily decisions.
I think this whetted my appetite for more information. I would love to see a longer version of it. I want to know if the narrator is a simple man, or a man living a simple life. Is it Forrest Gump or a History of Mr Polly or something completely different?

I love your message that experiencing different situations and people can lead to thinking about future possibilities and have the potential to change your lifestyle if you choose to change or give you a greater appreciation of your life as it is.
I notice in a few places you have a full stop and capital letter in the middle of what seems to be a single sentence or maybe needed quotation marks to show the speaking?
eg. that night in honor of. My aunt's graduation
eg. When I got home, my wife was like. What were you doing out so long?
I enjoyed your speculations on the different future possibilities and look forward to reading more of your stories.
