Christmas Romance

It was Christmas Eve. I had been so caught up in my work that I forgot all about. Little did I know, that would be the day I met him. Or should I say.. them?

1 : Matthew

I ran across the road rushing across the sidewalk with a list of things I needed to buy from multiple stores. My long brown locks tumbled in the freezing wind. As I walked into the first store with my head down looking at my list, I ran into someone. Someone tall, and blonde. This was so embarrassing, I felt like I wanted to die right then and there. The man I ran into helped me up and asked, "Are you ok?" In a soft British accent. I could feel my face turning bright red when he looked at me. It took me a couple of seconds to look him in the eyes. I stuttered, "Uh.. Yeah! Yeah, I'm great. I'm totally cool dude." I winked at him and regretted it immediately after. "What the heck did you just say?!" I screamed in my mind. He pulled back his wispy blonde hair and laughed a little. In his accent he said, "So is this how people talk in America?" Me being embarrassed, exclaimed, "Ah! No, no I was just so distracted, you see I've got a list of things to get for people on Christmas, and I just ran into you, and I'm just messed up right now-" He waved his hands gently and said, "It's fine! I totally understand." I could tell he was thinking of something in his mind. He then wrote down something on a small piece of paper and slipped it in my pocket as he walked out of the store without talking. "That was odd." I thought. I took the piece of paper out of my pocket, and read it. "My name is Matthew, and you have certainly piqued my interest! My phone number is ***-***-****. Can you meet me at Sunset bridge tonight?" I could feel my face turning redder and redder by the second. I quickly texted him and typed, "Sure, meet you there! Oh, and my name is Emily." I smiled down at my phone and bought a toy for my nieces and nephews.

2 : Grayson

As I went to look for a place to get ingredients, I saw a guy sitting on the edge of a sidewalk looking at his phone. I crouched down and asked him for directions to the nearest farmers market. I needed to get ingredients to cook a feast for Christmas dinner. The first thing I noticed were his beautiful, deep blue eyes that just gleamed in the light. "Where have I seen you before?" he asked. I blinked two times in confusion and suddenly realised he looked fairly familiar too. I asked the man with the blue eyes, "What's your name?" He smiled as he said, "My name is Grayson, what about you?" I hugged my legs and said, "I'm Emily!" Suddenly there was a click in my mind. "Were you in Mrs. Gio's class in 2nd grade?" Grayson's face lit up. "Yes I was! How did I not recognize you?" he exclaimed. I said, "Well how would you recognize me? There's not many things that are memorable about me." Grayson laughed kindly and said, "You're just as pretty and as bashful as ever." My face turned red as I remembered we liked each other back in 2nd grade. "Stop that-'' I said. He grinned and held my hand. "Come, I'll take you to the farmers market." I went along with it, but I couldn't shake off a weird feeling towards Grayson.

3 : Quinn

When he dropped me off, he gave me his number and left. I dropped off my ingredients at home and ran to get a Christmas tree in the middle of town. I stopped in my tracks when I heard some awesome guitar playing in the middle of the street. I saw a crowd gathered around and decided I had enough time to check it out. A black haired man in a leather jacket was shredding on his guitar like a pro. He looked like a typical guitar player. After one song, he said he needed a volunteer to sing. I slowly walked away hoping not to draw any attention to myself, but I obviously caught his eye. He shouted from across the crowd, "Hey you! The pretty lady with the long brown hair, come here!" I slowly turned around just in case he wasn't talking to me, but found he was gesturing for me to come to him. I shook my head vigorously but he dragged me up on stage. I shouted in a hushed tone to him, "I can't sing!" He said out loud, "Sure you can! What's your name?" I mumbled, "Emily." He yelled, "Everyone give it up for Emily our singer!" Everyone cheered and applauded. I could feel my soul trying to escape from this very embarrassing moment. I heard "All I Want For Christmas is You" starting to play. I tried to sing as best I could, but it turned out mediocre. Halfway through the song he winked at me, and I got so distracted I started singing jingle bells. The crowd started laughing, and it took me a couple of seconds to realize what they were laughing at. When I realized they were laughing at me I almost passed out. I quickly switched back to the song I was supposed to sing and looked at the black haired man with the leather jacket smiling at me. My face was flushed with embarrassment. After the song was over I ran off the stage. I got a coffee to calm my emotions down. “I should have never checked out that dumb concert.” I thought to myself. I walked out of the coffee shop and went to go buy a tree. I immediately recognized the cashier when I started to wait in line to purchase the tree. It was the black haired man! This time he wasn’t wearing his leather jacket, he had glasses on. I walked up and once he saw me he tried to cover his face. I was extremely confused. “Aren’t you the guitar player?” I asked to break the silence. “Can you keep a secret?” He asked worriedly. I tilted my head to show my confusion. “Uh- sure.” I said. He exhaled and then spoke. “I was the guitar player you saw earlier. My glasses make me really insecure, so I use eye contacts when I perform. I’m not gothic at all.” “I think it suits you. You look better this way.” I stated. He looked up from the counter and his cheeks were turning red. He smiled and said, “I forgot to tell you my name. I’m Quinn! Your singing was extraordinary by the way.” It was as if I got a fever on the spot. My head got really hot as I muttered, “I sang the wrong song in the middle of it after you winked at me.” We both got really dizzy and awkward as he said, “I winked at you didn’t I-” After we picked ourselves back up we exchanged phone numbers and I was off to set everything up at home.

4 : Ayden

As I was walking home I passed by an alleyway. I heard a meow inside the alleyway, so I stopped by to check it out. I hated alleyways because they’re dark and scary, but I knew I couldn’t let the kitten starve! I took a peek inside the alleyway. It was dark, but I could hear the cat still meowing. I walked inside the alleyway, only to see a man with a hoodie crouching down while petting it. I could also see a tent in the back of the alleyway. “Maybe he lives here?” I pondered. I saw his hoodie flip down from his head and I could see he had blue tips on his black hair. I was afraid he might be a gangster, but gangsters wouldn’t pet cats.. Right? I tapped him on the shoulder and he seemed very startled. The kitten ran away and he let out a long sigh. He looked at me, and suddenly got really embarrassed. I crouched down to where he was sitting so we could be at eye-level. I noticed that his brown eyes were really pretty. “Do you live here?” I asked him while pointing to the tent. I said it with a smile so he wouldn’t be uncomfortable. He said, “Uh- yeah. I do live here.” I could tell he was pretty uncomfortable. I told him, “Hey look I’m here for you, so you can tell me all about it.” He looked unsure but started talking. “Okay.. So my mom got really sick. My dad’s already gone, and I have multiple jobs just to keep getting money for treatment from doctors. Since all our money has gone to getting treatment, me and my mom fell behind on payments and we got kicked out of our house.” He looked embarrassed so I just patted him on the back. He asked if he could have my number, and I said, “Sure!” As I was walking out he said, “My name is Ayden!” I smiled and waved my hand to him when I said, “I’m Emily!”

5 : Axel

I finally got back home after a long walk, and I found my older brother sitting in my living room watching his phone. “When did you get home?!” I yelled. He got up and flailed his arms around. “Aren’t you going to give me a hug?” He asked. I ran up and hugged him when he said, “By the way, is it ok if I have a friend over?” I nodded my head yes and went to the kitchen to cook food for Christmas. I heard the door open and my brother was waiting for his friend to get inside the doorway so they could play games together. I was exhausted from the day I had so I fell asleep while cooking. I started to fall backwards but someone caught me. It didn’t feel like my brother. When I opened my eyes my brother's friend was carrying me to the couch. My brother punched him and told him, “Hey, don’t touch my sister!” He laughed and continued to play the game, but his friend was still looking at me. He snapped out of it and continued to play the game. As I finished cooking, I noticed that he slipped a note onto the counter before he left. I stuck the food I cooked into the refrigerator to save it for tomorrow and read the note. He wrote down his number with small handwriting that said “Call me!” I saved his phone number and got ready to go to Sunset Bridge to meet Matthew. As I walked out the door I asked my brother, “What’s your friends name?” “Why do you want to know?” My brother teased. “Just tell me!” I said. “Fine, fine. His name is Axel. The name suits him, he’s so arrogant.” He snickered. “Whatever.” I said as I rolled my eyes and walked out. I texted Axel when I got outside saying, “Hi, this is Emily I got your number?” He responded almost immediately and wrote, “Yeah, this is Axel. I assume your brother gave you my name?” “Yeah he did. Thanks for catching me earlier by the way, I was really tired after the long day I had.” “Don’t mention it. Although I am pretty awesome-” Now I could see what my brother meant by arrogant.

6 : Proposals

I slipped my phone in my jacket pocket and went on my way to meet Matthew at the Sunset Bridge. I saw a silhouette in the distance. “Is that Matthew?” I wondered. I got closer and the silhouette started waving at me. The dark figure ran up to me and waved at me. “Hello Emily, Nice to meet you again.” It was Matthew! “Hi!” I said excitedly. As if by fate, I got 4 text messages, each from different people. “Sorry, can I look at these text messages real quick?” Matthew nodded his head yes, but looked eager to tell me something. I looked at my texts and found a text from Grayson, Quinn, Ayden, and Axel all saying, “Where are you? I have something to tell you.” I hoped that they wouldn’t interrupt my moment with Matthew as I hesitantly told them, “I’m at Sunset Bridge.” I skipped across the concrete and back to Matthew. Matthew greeted me with a smile. After 10 minutes of speaking with Matthew, I saw 3 cars pull up next to the bridge with a man walking right behind the cars. Matthew bent down about to do something, but I was too focused on the cars. Matthew was confused about what was going on and looked to where I was looking. 4 people started walking up to me and Matthew. Grayson, Quinn, Ayden, and Axel said in unison, “Am I interrupting something?” I said, “Oh no it’s nothing.. We’re friends right Matthew?” Matthew looked at the floor. Just then, every boy got down on his knee and pulled out a ring. Every boy looked at each other and suddenly got really embarrassed, but nobody was more embarrassed than me. I looked at Matthew first. He was unsure, but had a confident and charming smile as he said, “Emily, please marry me.” Then I looked at Grayson. His eyes were practically twinkling with joy as he said, “Emily, I’ve loved you ever since I had to move schools. Please, marry me.” Quinn was the most embarrassed of all. He tried to muster up a smile, but I could tell he just wanted to run away. He finally said, “Emily, you’re the first person to like me for who I am. It’s hard to find someone like that, so I fell in love with you immediately. Please marry me.” I looked at Ayden who looked worn out but was still smiling bright. “Emily, this is my mom’s wedding ring. My mom gave it to me if I ever find a woman special to me. We never sold it to a pawn shop because I was sure I would find a girl right for me. I’ve found you after all this time. Please marry me.” He said desperately. Axel smiled at me and said, “I think we’re meant to be. Your brother might not approve, but who cares. You’re really cute. Marry me.” I trembled at the sight of 5 people all wanting me to be theirs for the rest of their life. Matthew, the most charming. Grayson, the most sweet. Quinn, the most caring. Ayden, the most sacrificial. Axel, the boy with the most looks. It was hard to choose. I liked, well, all of them! I ended up turning them all down and said, let’s all be friends for now. I’ll make up my mind later. They all smiled and nodded their head yes.
