"Where am I?" I asked myself out loud. Somehow I have been whisked away to a faraway land cause there was no known forests close to my home. At least not at my knowledge cause I hardly get out much. Thanks to my overprotective dad. Bless his heart but sometimes I do want to go outside to see what the world has to offer. Much better than getting couped up in a house while being told what I can or cannot do.
So, there I was standing at an unknown place and my heart could have leapt out from me. Especially since it was pouting very fast of adrenaline. I was extremely excited! Finally I get a chance to go outside! For years I have been trying to go outside to no avail. Every time I would escape, either my father or step-mother Brynn would capture me. That or my little step-sis, Chole, would telltale on me. I was even known as an escape artist as an infant from what my dad told me once. I even gave my birth mother a scare a few times. I just wish I got to knew her more. May she rest in peace.
The problem with not going outside as much, or with my case: at all, was you thinking of a million things to do at once. My mind was juggling what should I do first. Should I go climb a tree? How about just roll amongst the grass? Should I collect some bugs? On second thought, that's kind of gross. I mean to each of their own. But I prefer not to get my hands all slimy. Oh, how about I go for a hike. Yes, that would be a good first outing! Now, all I need is a walking stick.
Since I was in a clearing, I had a variety of options of where to go. Should I go, straight, back, left, right? Again, my brain was doing flips just thinking of now where to go? Unless possibilities yet I don't know how much time I have cause time is of the essence. The longer I contemplate, the shorter my first adventure will end.
North would be advised. They also said if you ever lost, always go north. Or at least, that's what I read from a survivors' guide. Since there was no Northern Star and it was the daytime, I took a quick moment to check where the sun was. It was literally above me so mid day. Well, that doesn't help one bit. Maybe the Northern Wind could guide. I lick my pointer finger. (Again, I learned this from the survivors' guide.) As I lift my finger outward, the wind answered to my right. So right is North, okay, right on I go!
After walking a short distance, I scout out to find a walkable hiking stick. Something not too big, or too small. Very strong but not bulky or flimsy. Just a perfect walking stick is all I'm asking. However, I couldn't find one. A ton of small ones but all were to flimsy. Not stable to put any weight on. And a few of big ones, only they were too heavy for me to carry. Don't even a heavy load while hiking.
Just before I could go further into the woods, search for a walking stick, I came across a cane lying on the ground. I picked it was examine it on close inspection. It was a simple cane with a black shaft and golden top. On the top had strange symbols. Almost sort of a leaf kind pattern.
I don't know much of plant anatomy but I do believe it was symbols of mints upon the gold surface. I would know mints considering my dad loves his mints in tea, and would often make grasshopper drinks for the whole family on occasion. Heck, even the cane for some bizarre reason smelled pretty minty too.
I twirled around the cane, just so I get the feel of it in my hands. It honestly felt right, like it was made for me. "Guess you would do as my hiking stick," I smiled at the inanimate object. Of course, it didn't respond but I can imagine it, can I?
As I acquired my newly founded cane, I walked more into the forest. I continue to go the the straight and miraculously narrow path the forest was giving me. Somehow, this strange forest was leading me somewhere I needed to be but I didn't have a care in the world. For the first time in my life, I felt like the happiest boy ever! I can finally go outside without either my dad, step-mom or step-sister to stop me. After years of anticipation, I can finally go on a grand adventure.
"Stop it right there!" shouted a familiar voice. I literally stopped and was thinking mentally in my mind the following: 'Could it be? No, it can't be! Come on, just when I was about to go off on my first outing! She had to be here as well! Of course, cause Chole always has to ruin anyone's parade, including mine. Might as well, face the music.' I finally turned to the voice and found out the person looked exactly like my step-sister only she had wore different clothes.
Upon her attire was a gray mage robe fit for a 8 year old. She also acquired a couple of balloons by which was floating behind her, without any string!? Not to mention a wand amongst her belt. The Chole Doppelganger had all of my step-sister's face features, expect she wore an eye patch like a pirate on her left eye. She even acquired the same blond hair but with rainbow streaks across a long shag hairstyle!?
If Brynn would to see her, oh, she would blew a gasket! Especially since dear old Brynn ain't a fan of the LGBT community. Thus why my dad was a better person for accepting others, and I still don't see what he saw in her. Maybe he just didn't want to be alone after mother: June died.
I half-smiled and replied nervously: "Chloe, is that you?"
The Chole Doppelganger gave me a strange look and went: "I ain't no Chole? I'm Balloon! And, you, young sir, have a cane that belongs to my Master Mintgomery!"
Apparently I was no where near home and for that I took a sigh of relief!
