Drama Suspense High School

Mariam Sophia, she was only seventeen years old. I remember her as one of my best friends, my girlfriend, my confidant, and one of the most beautiful people I have ever met in my entire life. I met her when I was in my last year of school. The school I entered was divided in two parts: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. One day the rector decided that the best thing was to send some students to the afternoon session because there were too many students in the morning. The truth was, I didn't want to go because I was already used to my teachers and to my best friends but I was chosen, I had to spend the afternoon, even if I did not agree. One day the teacher said that there was a lot of disorder and that she was going to bring order. So she decided to organize all the students on the list in order. Luckily, I already had made a new friend David and he stayed at a position. So I asked the girl, Mariam, a study partner, if she could move so that I could be closer to David and thus be able to talk with him. She told me no though. "Hmm, I don't know why there are people like this", I thought to myself. Class began and the teacher left us homework. She told us to bring some photocopies to develop an activity. As usual the next day, I forgot the photocopies “hmm, now what do I do?”

“Oh! don't worry, I'll lend them to you”, said Mariam.

“You are nice, thank you.”, I answered. And that's how we worked together; she even helped me make a drawing that was difficult for me too. If that girl is good, I like her.

Upon leaving school, I told her that I could accompany her because she takes the same path that I take to get to my house. I thought it would be a good idea.

"Are you going to your house today, Mariam?" I asked.

"Yes of course!" she told me and we went together.

Two months have passed and we became good friends. She makes me laugh and I forget about the little problems I have when I am with her. Maybe I am falling in love with her, I don't know. The truth is that I have never had a girlfriend and maybe I would be an idiot but there's a first time for everything. At school, the other students annoy us by saying that we are dating but she is very serious in that sense. However, she does not pay much attention to it.

When I went on vacation in the middle of the year, I decided to invite her to accompany me to the cinema to see a movie that I have wanted to see for a long time. But unfortunately, it was closed. So I had a plan B to eat ice cream and talk. At 6:30 pm, we left the shopping center but we did not want to say goodbye. The conversation was very interesting and it was best to enjoy each other’s company.

Our graduation was today so we left early. Mariam was with her friends on the corner. I would like to go with her but I was feeling tense. So I stood there and waited for her. We left school together after she was done talking with her friends.

“Do you want to go home, Christian?,” Mariam asked.

“No, of course not. And you?”

“No, my family does not know that I left early today.”

“Then we can go to the park and eat ice cream.”

“That’s ok, I think.”

An hour passed and she got a call from a friend that she had liked before. She told Mariam that my mother was asking for me and that she was worried. "What a shame!" I thought to myself. Maybe she found out from my sister, who studies there as well. Then I had to go to not worry my mother anymore.

“Bye! See you later! but first of all…”, I paused and then continued again, “Can you give me a kiss?”

“No, haha. we are nothing,” she answered while covering her face with her hands.

“Well, it's okay,” I said. I couldn't stand it anymore so I went for it. “I knew a scolding awaited me at home but it would be worth it!” I thought to myself.

“You’re crazy!”, exclaimed Mariam.

“Yes, for you,” I replied. I hugged her tightly and we said goodbye.

I never thought that I was ever going to like someone like that. I always said it was nonsense. But when you meet that right person, you realize that it is the best feeling, and your mood changes to see that things in life are more beautiful than what you thought.

When I got home, my mother scolded me as usual but I didn't pay much attention to her. I felt happy.

Days later, I became the boyfriend of Mariam, the most beautiful girl in my school, because I saw it that way. I had a lot of fun with her and we even saved up to go to an amusement park by selling sweets during school breaks. We wanted to do many things together. One day my mother wrote to her that we could not talk anymore. I don't know how she got that number but she did. She told Mariam that she did not agree with our relationship that we should focus more on studying. We didn't do that though.

Graduation day arrived. It was a year full of surprises. We made the final grade farewell and I invited Mariam to the dance. She looked beautiful in her blue dress, her beautiful cheeks flushed as well, her big honey-colored eyes that made me fall in love again, her black hair and pink lips. The most beautiful girl I have ever seen. That night, I enjoyed her. We danced until we were tired and when we finished, we went to another house to continue the party. Luckily, my mom hadn't called us.

Now, we have to look at universities that we wanted to attend. I always wanted a public university without having to pay money because we did not reach the budget and she opted for another. Nevertheless, we continued to see each other. We adjusted our schedule and I just looked forward to the day that we saw each other again.

At the end of the semester, she went on a trip. Unfortunately, she had an accident. Some time after her recovery, she changed a lot. I had a new friend that I met in the university who didn't like her very much. Mariam started to have a very ugly attitude towards me and for some strange reason. My mother told me to leave her. I then stayed with my friend, Diana, who had to have new experiences and meet new people. I picked up Mariam from the university and she was not the same. She looked at me with mystery and anger; that was already tiring me a little. Although she tried to break off the relationship several times. I would always look for her and we would come back. Although maybe Diana liked me but I wasn't paying much attention to it.

Lately, Mariam had looked at me with a gloomy face. I tried to tell her that she did feel good. She agreed but she didn't say anything else.

One day, she decided to break up again. She didn't even accept me as a friend so I stopped insisting. My mother told me that it was for the best and I decided to give myself a chance with Diana. Sometime later, I stopped crying and continued my life. Diana is also great for me. It makes me forget about Mariam and leave my comfort zone. That is good because it distracts me and a busy mind does not miss anyone. Sometimes when I am alone in my house, I think about Mariam. I think about how she is doing and I would like to know why she made such a sudden decision. I wrote but she rejected me after the first few days of ending the relationship so I continued with Diana. I like to post photos with Diana on my page, showing that I have a new life and that I can move on. Of course, Mariam sees them and maybe she must hate me.

When I was going to my university, I saw her. There she was; waiting for her bus as if nothing turned her gaze at me. She acted as if we had never seen each other and that day my soul broke. Those people you get so used to loving and out of nowhere they leave. You are nothing but a stranger to them. You live being one of the most important people in your life from one moment to the next until you die forever.

Two years after ending the relationship with Mariam, it was New Year's Day and I decided to call her. Maybe it was not the right thing to do since I met Diana. Diana would be upset if I called Mariam but she is not going to know. So I pick up the phone and I call Mariam.

“Hello, Mariam?”

“No, this is not Mariam. She is with her mother. Who is this?”

“I am a fellow student. I just wanted to say hello.”

“At the moment, she is not here.”

“Ok, I'll call back later. Thank you.”

We both say bye and end the call. “Maybe I shouldn't talk to her,” I thought. I decided to tell David everything and he was surprised to hear me say, “You did that Christian?”

“Yes, why not? I wanted to know about her.”

“I don't know. I think if you still care about her, you should go see her in person.”

“Yes, David, you're right. I'll do that.”

The next day, I got ready. He made me very presentable to go to Mariam's house. It got on my nerves but I had to do it. I feel like I had to so I started my way to her house. Then my cell phone rang. “A call? who could it be? Oh! Diana,” I said to myself.

“Hello, my girl. How are you doing?”

“Well, I am at your house. I wanted to surprise you but I realized that you were not here.”

“I just went to the store to buy something. Don't worry, I'm coming there now.”

“OK.”

So that day could not be, well... it will be another day. I was at my house with Diana when the doorbell rang. “Who could it be?” I thought.

“Hello! I am Nicolle.”

Ahhh, Nicolle. She was a friend of Mariam’s, in fact her best friend. “what happened?” I thought.

“Hello, what is this miracle due to?” I asked.

“Hmm, what I have to tell you is something very serious. it's about Mariam.”

“Yes, tell me!”

At that moment, Diana came out. Nicolle changed the subject and asked me, “What if I still had the financial fundamentals notebook from school that she needed for a university job?”

"Ahhh yes, give me a moment and I will bring it to you,” I replied. I introduced her to Diana, my girlfriend.

“Ah! Hello, nice to meet Nicolle,” said Diana.

They kept talking and I went to get the notebook. Then Nicolle left and I couldn't stay calm for the rest of the day.

The next day, I wrote to Nicolle but he didn't answer. So I didn't think about it anymore and went to Mariam's house.

Her mother opened the door for me and told me not to bother. She would not let me pass and told me to leave Mariam alone.

I did not do anything else. Two weeks later, I received a message from Nicolle:

Hello Christian, I had not written to you because I did not see it necessary. And you did not but I think I must tell you the truth, you have the right to know. Since the accident that she had, Mariam has been losing her memory and she does not take her medication. The medication strengthens her memory and psychology assistance. She stopped taking it because she prefers to continue losing her memory rather than remembering her only and true love. The one who made her suffer.

I felt empty and in shock. I felt guilty so I quickly left for Mariam's house. Her mother opened the door and told me that Mariam had gotten retrograde amnesia from the accident. I immediately came to tears. I told Mariam to forgive me for not realizing the situation and for what she was going through. Mariam looked at me in amazement. I went to hug her and she hugged me back. I didn't know if she remembered me very well that she was quiet. When she left her house, I spoke with her mother. I told her that I would be willing to help Mariam so that she complied with her treatment. Such as her occupational therapy, assistive technology, and her medications, which could take her back to the doctor. Her mother was right. I spoke with Diana and she did not agree with me helping Mariam. She immediately broke up with me and left. A week later, she was already with someone else. I did not pay much attention to it and I decided to help my first and only true love, Mariam.
