Mina Montac has never known anything short of pleasure. She's got virtually anything a girl could want- caring and loving friends, an amazing family, and a boyfriend who's wrapped around her finger. She's obedient, sweet, even a bit of a teacher's pet. Some go far enough to say that she's perfect. A little self-obsessed, actually, but for the most part, perfect.
And as a cherry on top, she has powers. No, I'm not kidding. She has genuine, time reversing powers. After falling off the monkey bars and breaking her arm at age 5, she discovered exactly what her mind could do. She willed and willed for a way to go back and change what had happened. Then she found herself on top of the monkey bars again. She called for her mother to take her down, and guess what- she didn't break her arm!
Instead of bragging about this, like she usually did with all her skills (she's quite the soccer legend), she kept quiet. From that point on, her life was carefully crafted. She never missed the bus anymore, her grades were stellar, arguments were avoided.
Mina was unstoppable. No one was to find out about her powers, she planned on it.
Although Mina was cunning and calculated, nothing could prepare her for the biggest shock of her life, the one event that would test every aspect of her being, and potentially break down every part of her constructed world.
November 22nd. Sunday. Thanksgiving break was fast approaching. The trees were almost barren, a few orange leaves clung to the branches. The grass wasn't its usual cheery green, but instead a dull mixture of brown and grey. You could say the same for the sky, too. The Montac men were watching football on tv, and Momma Montac was busy feeding the fireplace. It was a calm autumn day. The neighbors were strategically planting decorations on their lawn. Mina was at the movie theater with her friends, Carrie and Nora, and of course, her boyfriend Sam.
Because Thanksgiving was so close, Mina set up this little hang out to spend time with those she loved. After all, it's important to get into the thankful spirit.
After the movie was finished, she hurriedly stepped into the bathroom to fix up her makeup. She had cried at the end of the movie, and her mascara was probably all over her cheeks by now. As she cleaned up, the little beep of a text message rang out. Then another. Then another.
Mina, this is Sherry, your neighbor. You need to come back home.
Something terrible has happened.
Please call me.
Mina's stomach flipped and flipped as she dry-heaved by the sink. Why was she so worried? Sherry could be pranking her.
Sherry is 58, do you even think she knows what the word "prank" means??
Mina dialed her number and leaned against the sink. No answer. She called again, but this time, she was out of the bathroom, and in Sam's arms.
"Take me to my house," Mina muttered as she dialed again.
Mina eventually arrived home and reached Sherry.
Something was very wrong.
The doors of Mina's house were wide open, including the white gate that enclosed their front yard. Police cars and ambulances were pulling up on her street. She watched as a man in a white uniform ran in her house, and pulled out the body of her brother, drenched in blood, with a long slit on his neck.
The gasp that came out of her mouth could have choked everyone within a five-mile radius. She ran towards the scene and grabbed her brother.
"No! No! No! Please, no!" She screeched to the sky. The dark, brown/grey sky.
Two more bodies were pulled out, and it was almost like Mina's soul was going to get yanked out of her body, as well.
As she cried, the police interviewed her and explained how this nightmare was actually not a figment of her imagination, but real life.
She didn't get to stay home that night. She stayed at Sam's. As she slept off the tears in an almost blackout, she woke up the next morning with a plan. She was going to will everything back.
So she locked herself up in Sam's basement and concocted a plan that would save her family from the hands of death. It would work. She willed it to.
But not everything can be solved by a simple wish or will. She still had to find out who murdered her family, when, and why.
Why, why, why, was the question roaming her brain, which never shut off.
Her first try at getting them back failed- they still died, and Mina was left to sob again.
Her second try: the same outcome.
The third: the same.
And she still hasn't found out who is to blame.
Every time she turns back the clock, her evidence is erased, and the dots never click. Her suspect list never grows, her feelings never soften, and her family is still dead.
Now Mina is thrust into a challenge: she has to time travel into a world of unknown possibilities. Before, there's always been a single option, the one way things would go. But now, she is forced to do anything she can to get back her family, in which she hasn't a clue what to do.
She's unsure, she's sorry, she's bearing the burden of her loved one's lives on her back with each passing day. Time is ticking, and Mina doesn't seem to realize her clock is ticking, too. With each trial, her health gets put on the line. Her powers fade.
But when will she realize this? Will she ever get her family back, will she ever have that "perfect" life again?
If mystifying, mind-bending powers beyond human nature can't even save Mina, what can?
What lengths would she go to to protect the ones she loves?
What sacrifices are going to be made?
Who is out to get her and her family?
