General

An alert was sent out to everybody in the area to keep their doors and windows locked. Kids from another planet were discovered here on Earth. Officials are saying they could be dangerous, but their intentions are unknown. I know that they’re trying not to let too much information out, but it’s nearly impossible when there’s a news van at every corner, since this is a big story. Nothing ever happens here. At least, it didn’t.

Remember when NASA was trying to figure out if there’s life on other planets? This proves it. I wonder where they’re from. And why they’re here, there has to be a reason. I wouldn’t want to come here for no reason, and I’m human. It’s a little scary, since nobody really knows what’s going on. Plus this has never happened before, so we aren’t at all prepared.

A picture of them has leaked. It’s really blurry, but it looks like they are glowing. They were running, and the cops were chasing them. I don’t know what I expected, but this definitely wasn’t it. You would think that since they’re basically aliens, they could do more than just glow and run. Maybe they can, but are just waiting until the right time. Some of my friends have invited me to go outside with them. They say that they want to figure this out, with or without the cops. Obviously, I’m not going to sit inside and worry about them, so I’m going to go.

When we make it outside, it’s complete chaos. There are police cars everywhere, sirens blaring. The strange thing is though, other than the sirens, there’s no other sound. I don’t really want to split up, even though I’ve lived here my whole life. I know my way around fine, and it’s a small town, everybody knows each other. But this is different, nobody has experienced it.

It’s really cold. I think they must have something to do with it, because here it never gets this cold. Or am I just being paranoid? Everybody has split up, so I’m walking down the street alone. I’m far enough out to where I can’t hear the sirens anymore, the only sound is my footsteps. I hear a faint yell in the distance and my head jerks up, heart pounding. It sounded like a man, which couldn’t have been the people, since they’re kids. Or maybe it’s somebody who, like my friends and I, wants to figure this out. Another yell, this time closer. Most likely, it’s a cop. That means if it is a cop, then they must be close to where I am. I really wish somebody was with me.

I hear somebody running and I duck into the alley behind an old building. Safe, I know. “Stop!” A cop yells. I can barely make out the glowing group of kids running past, but they’re for sure here. My hiding spot isn’t good, but it’s the best I could do with so little time. If the cop finds me, undoubtedly I’d be in trouble.  If one of the kids finds me, who knows what would happen. I don’t even know if we speak the same language, or if they speak at all. I press my back against the old, dirty wall of the building and hope I’m hidden fine. They run by and I let out a sigh of relief. That was close.

I walk out the back way and duck behind a building. I have to be more careful, I can’t risk anyone finding me. Going through a small gap in between the walls, I run into somebody and fall backwards. I glance up to see one of the kids. I freeze, and watch her slowly come toward me. That’s it, I’m dead. I didn’t even get to say goodbye to anyone. To my surprise, she reaches out her hand to help me up. Not wanting to be rude, I take it and thank her. She smiles at me. Okay, so they have to at least understand english.

“What are you?” I ask, and immediately regret it. Great way to get yourself killed.

She tilts her head, “We are from Delta e4. It’s a planet.”

“But that’s not-”

“It is,” she interrupts, “you don’t have the technology yet.”

A planet no one has ever heard of? I wonder how many of those there are. I nod, and take a step back. I just need to get out of here, this could escalate quickly because of me and my big mouth.

“Wait.”

I freeze and turn my head.

“We need help, please, we won’t hurt you. Our planet is in danger, and it’s up to us to save it. Please,” she pleads.

I don’t want to help, but I agree anyways. I don’t know why, maybe because she seems so desperate, or maybe a part of me is curious. I mean, it’s not everyday an alien asks you to help save a planet.
