A noise had startled me awake though I was too slow to look out window, so I sat there in my dark room groggily. Unsure what it was that woke me. My phone started singing the chicken dance song. Without looking i picked it up and said," What's up?!"
" We are being invaded! You need to get out now!?" A shaky voice whispered to me. It sounded like my prankster brother, JD.
Realising it was a prank I stated, "Its too early for one of your damn pranks, mate!"
My brother replied determined and quiet, " No sis, not a prank. Shan and I are hiding with the kids. They've taken us from sea, air and ground. We thinks its the Chinese."
Not in the mood for this, I asked, "Put Shan on the phone?"
Shantelles voice whispers back, "He not joking, get Faith...."
Her voice interupted by my brother, " Go inland, sis."
"Ok, I'm going," i stammer unsure.
Before the call cuts off I hear my bro, "Love you."
Wobbling I go into my baby's room. Grabbing some wipes and nappys, I pick up my blonde haired beauty and head down the stairs of my unit.
After locking my door I started yelling to the complex, "This is not a prank, get out now, we are being invaded."
I repeat this chant and as I get to the the carpark. A jet zooms by and it starts to feel more real. Faith stayed asleep as I put her in car. My mind wants to panick but I know panicked people die or worse. So I mist stay calm as i start my little car. This car wont win a car chase so I hope we dont get in one. The main street a couple houses away, I dont wait for green light either. I slowly leave my street and head down a deserted road when I hear sirens blare from my car radio.
" We interupt this program to urge all residence of the Queensland coastline to leave now. Chinese and Russian army have taken the coastline and are moving inland. Our army are fighting back but everyone that can leave safely please do now. We urge you to head inland, stay tuned to local station and we wish you all goodluck." Sirens blared at the end of the broadcast.
This is really real. This is happening. Im on the bridge now when four larhe carrier planes flew past. As i look up I notice what I think is people jumping from large open doors. I hope thats us as I get past the bridge.
Once again I dont stop at the lights, carefully slowing and checking before going threw. Keep calm I tell myself. Deciding to drive past McDonald's towards the uni, cutting out many lights as well as keeping away from the main roads which will soon be clogged and a war zone.
No way, war zone? Thats not possible. It cant be. War???
As I past people getting into cars, I know that word is getting out. I should of posted a message on facebook. No one will believe this but. That thought quickly vanished as a paracute zoomed down towards my car. Dont panick! Getting closer to me I made a decision to swerve around. Hoping the cars behind are alert.
It feels like a movie as I head round the roundabout heading out of town. Surely they cant get much farther inland. Better to be safe then sorry as I picked up speed on the highway. Looking in my rearview mirror I noticed atleast five cars.
The cars followed me to the first servo past Stanwell power house. Needing to rest, fuel up and get my thoughts together. Looking at the time for the first time since waking I realise its 2:39pm.
Shakily I sat not able to complete a thought as I try to ponder how to get out of this mess. I've been in some big messes but this one takes the cake, obviously!
Shock ripped threw my small pail frame. Least I cant get anymore pail however Ill be blue if I dont make a plan quick. I just couldnt move, my body refused it's instructions and decided to go on protest. So instead I took a deep breath in, held for a few seconds then slowly released the now hot air out. Doing this a few times over. I looked around at the people whom were either gathering together or just fueling quickly, guess they want out now and are not going to s
Wait ti be in a group. I want to be in a group, its the best defence for a single mother but others might see me as hiderence. Deciding to put my big girl boots on, I hold my head high as my body finally listens and I get out of ash, yes
I named my very girly car ash.
I decide to leave Faith in the car, just opened doors for her to get air. It was not hot as a stormed past is last night and the hell sun Australia gets hadnt started to show its demon face yet. I do think its best they dont see I'm weak and keeping her in the car helps for a quick escape.
As I got to the crowd, I heard the men saying we need to stick together and head more inland. Disagreeing but wanting a group I zipped my big girl boots up and in a raised deep tone I spoke, shocking them, " There plans will be to take Queensland, I think our best bet would be to stay this far in but head towards New South Wales. That way we get out of the state but stay away from the coastline. We also won't get much help inland as there is fewer people."
Everyone was looking at me when a deep voice rose above the popping sound, "Christie, OMG, your ok."
Still wondering when the popping noise started I looked around for the voice. I spot Jimmy. A tall well built men whom clearly used a gym since I knew him at school.
"Jimmy, hey, long time no see, what a way to catch up," looking around at the crowd as I spoke, in my adult voice" We need a plan. First thing they will do is take what the can and put up road blocks so we cant escape. We can use trucks to push threw road blocks but the will shoot us going threw, so we need make shift weapons to throw from our cars to distract them enough to get all of us threw."
Shock looks came my way but no one diagreed.
Thats when Jimmy piped up, "Listen to her, she was in the army."
Feeling a red glow embrace my face as I correct,ed" I did join but only did basic training. We cant take much time, but we can all work together to get out."
"Ok," a truckie slowly said, " lets listen to her, look around for anything you can throw out the car, trucks should be first and last in the line. Be quick, you have 5 mins."
Moltiv cocktails were quickly assembled by some emo looking kid whose parents looked on in shock and awe and fear....
While Jimmyand I gathered tacs to throw, others found metal poles and we all orderly fuel up. When ready everyone drove to where they were sitting in the ĺine.
It took longer then five minutes but we were all ready to fight, survive and get our asses out of her.
