Dog Day

Write a story from the point of view of a canine character or a mythological creature

“Shall we get a dog……….. and the answer you require is ‘YES”…

“I have already seen and bought one in Wales, I simply must confess”!

“We’ll have him in the new year, because he’s only 5 weeks Old”…………

……. “So, prepare yourself for a trip to Wales” is basically, what I was told”!

“I‘ve been speaking with the breeder, and you can see the puppies Online,…..

and they’re in a loving home, which is a positive sign”!

“They’re all lovely little puppies, and they all look ‘just the same’………

and so the puppy is chosen, and we now need to choose a name”;

🐕The caring and loving lady, that I knew from my birth, seemed quite excited when she finally put that talking device down, but her excitement did not last for long, ‘as if’ she felt guilty about having, showing and saying it!

She approached ‘us’ remaining puppies, and her words were directed, in particular, towards me!

She spoke many words, and I recognised a few of them, because of their previous tones, and then linking them with the departure of one of my brother puppies, and it would seem that I would be ‘on the move soon’, to another house, that sounded like it was in a place called Cornwall?🐕

Our drive to Wales took several hours, but ‘little did we think’, that our return journey would be with a puppy dog, who would change our lives so much- “but it was a positive ‘so much”!

Our teenage Son, had been repetitively asking for a dog when he was much younger, especially in his primary school years, but he was denied a dog because my health, along with the limitations to my capabilities, wouldn’t responsibly accommodate a dog, and I gave my child all that I could give, until, probably in his secondary school years, when we were asked if we could look after, ‘a friends’, puppy dog(‘a Welsh cocker spaniel’) whilst they went on holiday, and I was reluctant ‘at first’, because I was in a wheelchair, and I could only foresee problems, like not being able to walk him, or to take him outside, whenever the dog wanted to go to the toilet, and the walking of the dog would be, ‘yet another’ job for my poor wife to do, who already worked all day and then, upon returning home, would cook and finally relax with her evening meal, and then adding ‘walking the dog’, to her list of daily jobs might prove too much, but amazingly she said yes, DESPITE the fact that we recently had a new carpet fitted throughout the living room and the hallway!

SO we were, temporarily, getting a puppy, courtesy of my Son, and my wife and I would be looking after him!

I have always shown affection to most animals, and originally grew up with kittens and cats, which were my mum’s favoured pet, and, over the years, I adored all of the cats and one of cats gave birth to seven lovely kittens, that eventually departed to different homes in the region, and that was a sad day for me, being of ten years of age, and pets can expose emotions that can sometimes surprise you, especially in their demise, (“and I’m sorry for mentioning this ‘yet again’!)but many-many years later, when I was in a deep comatose state, I briefly saw my demise as a dog, and ‘to cut a long story short’, how animals are treated could affect human personalities and capabilities in their lifetimes today?

When we finally arrived at the correct destination in Wales, we were greeted by the two friendly parents of the puppies who were affectionate little dogs, and the mother dog seemed particularly pleased to see me, and I hoped, ‘in a way’, that that was a blessing to take, and look after one of her children/pups!?

We collected our chosen puppy, and we all got back into the car to begin our return journey home.

🐕 ‘My new owners seem alright, and I’m already getting a lot of attention and love, but I hope my new home isn’t contained in here’?

My view isn’t great ‘in this’ mobile vehicle, but at least it’s got a lot of light, and I am getting constant attention! I think that I need a nap now anyway, but there’s so much going on that I’m going to have some difficul…….zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

🐕I awoke, and still I remained in here, but we appeared to be stopping, and we all got out of this mobile place for me to wee, and to walk around- “Hello outside World”, I said, but my little barks might not have said that clearly?

“I didn’t like it much here, because there were lots of loud and large moving vehicles, with big wheels around here, and I feel scared”! “As well as being noisy, they’re stinky too”!

🐕Our temporary stop was mostly,’I felt’, for my benefit for me to go to the toilet, to stretch my little legs, and to get some fresh air before we continued our journey home, and the sky was darkening now.

The journey was without great excitement, and my view was mostly of human legs in a grey interior, and the situation was confusing, especially for my tiny mind, and I wondered- ‘will there be an end to this confusion?

Boredom briefly clouded my little mind, and I thought about my brothers and their whereabouts now, and I hoped they were happy, wherever they were, and I think that this is a loving family, they’re already showing love and affection, and that can’t be bad!

To reassure me of those previous thoughts I received, ‘yet another’, cuddle from the younger member of this family, and that gesture was very comforting and reassuring, because I was starting to feel lonely and upset;

I had six brothers and one sister, who, I felt, needed the protection from her brothers, especially because she was so small, but I wasn’t there for her, and my mind could conjure up some upsetting memories if it was allowed to remain without new activity for too long!

“That’s better”………. I was gently placed upon one of my new owners laps, and I could see out of the window, and there was lots of green, with many places to explore and play, and they didn’t have any of these big moving things in them! ‘Oh yes’, I thought, I’m going to like it here.

🐕”This new house looked friendly enough to me,

it provided comfort, love and security,

But, it didn’t have any familiar faces,

nor did it have those secluded spaces,

where I could get some privacy”!

“No, I tell a lie, because in the light I can see,

that there are plenty of places in where I can pee”!

I can run around, and sometimes by the sea,

but that depends on my owner and it’s availability”!
