Creative Nonfiction Contemporary American

So, this is my attempt at a realistic resolution list (based on a true story built by a millennial in 2020)

Here I have made a compilation of my top things I need to change or improve on this year. I try to stray from being like everyone else (you know, making a list of realistic resolutions ala ‘new year new you’ deal, ima juice and work out all day everyday sort of thing.

it never works) anywho, here’s what I came up with

 Building up that CONFIDENCE

Consisting of getting back in the social game (going out and being social and whatnot, obvie post pandemic)

CAREER-Look for a better job and figure out a career path, starting with building up that online presence though. For starters, I hear from my life coach on ZenLife (my meditation/life balance app) LinkedIn and Indeed accounts would help!

Then I gotta get that fly looking 'Gram worthy shot to get likes and piqué profile viewership (life coach says this boosts your chances of job visibility). Probably hit up photographer auteur Kat to snap the shot, maybe out here by the ferns, or shoreside with some pretty trees and turtle in the background, make me look legit yet sorta humble…

THEN

Do some research on potential careers...what does one do with a Bachelors in Liberal Arts with an emphasis on Social Sciences and Humanities?

My potential choices of interest:

A Paralegal-studied a bit of administrative justice, I have a sjsj appreciation of the law

A Data Analyst-in some sociology or social service field. I’m no math wiz but I like numbers better than people and statistics and research better than…people…

A Copy Editor-obvie as a Liberal Arts major, I have a healthy appreciation for anything involving literature of all kinds (and do like to assume myself a creative writer of sorts but that’s another horn to toot)

A Grant Writer-writing for generally good causes? While getting paid decent dough? I’m down.

A Research Assistant-yea get me in on that Stanford Prison shit! JK, like maybe something a little less terrifying...

CREATIVITY-this is whetting my creative chops.

First of all, considering my pursuit of a creative writing career, honing my writing skills is of the most important essence). This should include polishing my up blogs (I.E. Wordpad, Reedsy, Deviant Art) like once a week or something...

Of course, I've also got the Instagram to generate more views with snazzy pics to bolster appeal, maybe get myself some more followers while I'm at it 😊

Then there's tending to my musicians’ side, including doing things like…

JAMMING @ least 1ce a week (suppose this'll start on Zoom as well, although not my favorite medium of choice it's been done quite as I’ve seen on the news; not to mention my improv jam seshs via Electronauts/Twitch with Jaime, me rocking the keys and my various percussion instruments (I've got quite the collection of congos and bongos, agogôs, tambourines and sleigh bells for the more festive tunes) while Jaime plugs in some electro pop beats, speaking of gotta give him my 'degenerate millennial generation' tune for further composition.

-Get RECORDING software and start recording projects like the one mentioned above, hell, get the band back together and record and mix some shit (Sloppy Frogs, our experimental college alt funk rock project).

-COMPOSE a piece for chamber orchestra (unknow write it, email it to Prof Newell and hope whenever orchestra starts up again, we can play it). Maybe I'll include a pandemic inspired piece to impress our handsome conductor.

-MINDFULNESS (some new age philosophy that sounds interesting, Google it)

-Go back to SCHOOL to finish my Sociology degree

Read that daily quote book (mine is entitled “Positive Quotes for Every Day” by Patricia Lorenz, I would recommend it)

Check this list in a month (Feb 1) and in some form monthly for progress.

And last but not least actually*drum roll* submitting a piece to a competition (as this is something I avoid due to either procrastination or perfectionism) as I do right now! 😉

1 MONTH LATER...

Here I am a month later checking in for the first (and lest be honest probably the only) check in on the progress on my resolutions. Thus far...

On CONFIDENCE-I haven't made too much progress in the social realm, well I guess I shouldn't discount the couple right swipes I got from handsome strangers on Tindr I decided to check out on a whim

CAREER-good news on this front though! After months of seemingly never-ending unemployment in wake of this 'Rona nonsense, I have finally got a confirmation on a job at a non-profit social services agency in the data department! Start date, about a week but honestly unknown but hey, things are looking up! Kinda like me in that awesome shot Kat took of me pondering my existence in nice sepia tones.

CREATIVITY

As far as my writing career as a blogger (yea sure ima call myself a blogger for now) I've been, like, ok...I posted two more pieces, one a prose style rant about the current existential state of the nation and my mind, another a haiku about my dogs fur of wiry gold and squeaky puppy yawns.

Ok so I've only done 1 jam sesh with Jaime via Electronauts. I've been cramming with the job hunting and writing I haven't had much musical creativity in me this month ok don't judge me! 😅 At least little bros moving next month so there's 2/5 of our band back together. Hopefully he brings creativity not COVID back from the heartland? Dairy land? Zombieland? Whatever it is at this point...(by the way that was a joke he's overly cautious and antisocial all he will bring back is some dank cheese curds calm down)

To be honest I really haven't written or composed anything else in the last month, I'm only human with millennial ADHD.  🎶

COGNITION- Luckily through years of therapy I've been working on my Mindfulness for a good few years so as far as changes go I still meditate for a couple minutes a day throughout the day repeating mantras like ' I will survive to see 2025' and 'I love to rhyme these mantras in time to the beats in my mind' #musicianism #yesiprobablymadethattagandwordup

SCHOOL-I googled expensive programs at expensive schools on my way to obtaining my sociology masters, does that count as progress?

I can say I've been quite good about checking in with my daily positivity quotes with My morning tea #healthycaffiene #teahascaffeineright?

Oh, and for my last but not least I yes, submitted a piece, to a Reedsy writing contest; didn't win, but I got a like, maybe 2? #success 😁??

Well that the story of my life thus far so I'm strap this mask 😷 back on and maybe check back in in a month and see if I'm rich, famous or hell if I'm lucky get that Sentra I've had my eye on since I seen Captain Marvel spinning around in in those flashy Christmas car commercials. Peace ✌️ 🎉 🥂
