Fiction

I wrote this story a month or two ago, so it doesn't have anything to do with this prompt. It's Halloween oriented and I based it on a previous prompt. It's short but, I really hope you like it!

The Graveyard

By: Meera Lakshmi

Lacey and I have been friends since we were in kindergarten. I knew we were meant to be friends when I twisted my ankle on the playground and she came over to ask if I was ok and told a kid walking past to get an adult. We were on our way to the graveyard up the hill. Graveyard? You might think. Why would anyone want to go there? The answer, Lacey and I were always a fan of scary movies on Halloween. So, we thought why not have a picnic under the full moon and tell scary stories on Halloween? Lacey and I are neighbors so we met up at 7 pm to walk there. Thank goodness we are almost there! I didn’t check my phone to see how long the distance is on foot. Turns out, it's a steep uphill climb for 30ish minutes! Yeah, not doing that again. “Brrrrrr. It’s super chilly!” Exclaimed Lacey. “I really should have brought a coat.” I handed her my extra sweater. “Here,” I said. “I brought an extra.” She smiled. Finally, we reached the top of the hill. I set down the picnic basket that had been making my arm ache for the last 30 minutes. “Woah Rom,” said Lacey, setting down our blanket. “It’s ironically beautiful.” “Probably because of the moon,'' I said. Looking at the moon illuminating our faces. We spread out our blanket and I unloaded the picnic basket. Lacey’s mom’s famous lasagna, roast potatoes, vegetarian burritos, and quesadillas. “Gosh Lacey! Why did you pack so much food!!” I exclaimed. “My mom told me to pack all of it and bring the leftovers home…..sorry!” She said. “It's ok, at least we can have leftovers tomorrow?!” “Yeah! You can probably come over for lunch tomorrow.” She said. “Ok,” I said. I grabbed a burrito and peeked at the filling. “Ooh! Beans, rice, and guac! Thanks, Lace!” “Yeah!” She said. “You always get that so I told my mom to make them.” “Thanks!” I said as I smiled. I bit into the burrito as all the filling spilled out. Typical me. The messy one. Lacey was eating a quesadilla. She is such a cheese girl. Always the one to hoard the cheese pizza at a party. I finished my at the same time as lacey finished her food and we both reached for the potatoes at the same time. I laughed and served her some and then myself. As soon as we were done I asked the question. “Hey, Lacey? Want to tell some spooky stories?” “Sure!” She said as she started telling such a creepy story it gave me chills. It was about a girl who got bitten by a werewolf on a full moon. I decided to not tell a story because I couldn’t think of anything that was as good as hers. After feeling the chills, we decided we wanted to lay under the moon to absorb the light and talk. Starting the conversation, I decided I wanted to ask her if she did anything fun before we decided to hangout. “Well, I went with my mom to the grocery store to pick up the ingredients for the food, and then I watched a bunch of T.V. Pretty basic if you ask me. What about you?” she said. “I sat in bed and listened to music and then I-” “ROMILDA! BEHIND YOU!” Said Lacey as she cut me off. I screamed as I saw a shadow looming over me. I turned around as the shadow bit me. A wave of fear chorused through me. It felt like my body was being possessed. My body started aching and this girl in the background was screaming. I ran after her. I was hungry? She seemed to have some meat on her bones. I caught up with the girl. And went in for the kill.

She screamed.

Then it was silent.

Oh....... My GOD THAT WAS... WOW... I DON'T HAVE WORDS TO DESCRIBE HOW CHILLING THAT IS I love how short it is, and yet it was so powerfulllll I do have a few suggestions, though: Maybe separate the paragraph into smaller ones, so it's a bit easier to read. Especially when someone's talking, make a new paragraph. Also, maybe show, and not tell a bit more Other than that, though, it was fantastic!!!

Thank you! I appreciate your feedback, I will separate the paragraphs when I get a chance. What do you mean by maybe show? Also, I have an emoji puzzle in my bio if you want to check it out 😊.

Up!!! Ofccc! For example, instead of putting "After feeling the chills," put something like "The cold wind outside brushed against my skin, leaving a track of goosebumps that only added to the chills of the story."
