Friendship High School LGBTQ+

It’s the last day, last day for her goodbyes.

Stella stood there looking at herself in the mirror, getting ready for today. This day could change so many things, but it may not matter after her and her mother gets in their car for a long four-hour drive. and there won’t be no turning back. Stella makes her way out the front door trying to be a little earlier for school, since it’s her last day there. Then there was Faith, standing there waiting for Stella next to Xander also waiting for her.

“So, I was thinking,” Faith said, “We should go and get ours nails done tomorrow, and maybe go to McDonald’s afterwards. All three of us!”

Stella stood there feeling sad and empty, not knowing how to tell them that won’t be possible for her. But then Stella remembered what she got ready for today, to confess her feelings to Faith. When Xander left to go check on one of her friends, this is when Stella took that while both her and Faith were standing there.

“So, Faith.” Stella said with a soft voice, “I’ve been meaning to say this for a while but…”

Faith had a nervous and kind of confused look. It took Faith a few seconds before she said, “okay? Go ahead girly.”

Stella took a deep breath before she said, “I like you. Like a lot. And for a while now actually. And I-”

Stella got cut off to Faith saying, “Wait hold up. You do? I didn’t know you were bi, or lesbian? No worries I support you all the way. But I’m not into girls Stella. Aha look at the time I think we should go to class right now it’s time, bye.” Faith took off quickly.

Stella stood there, not knowing how to react to what just happened. It hurts a lot, it feels like she was stabbed all over her body and like someone took gasoline, poured it on her, and threw a match at her. She felt tears coming up, so she forced them back. Then took off to class.

During class Stella couldn’t focus whatsoever. She felt so sad and empty from what just happened to her today. And not only that. she’s moving, and she still hasn’t told anyone that she was and that she’s leaving today. Suddenly, “ Stella Jane Montana! Hello, hello! Are you there? What’s up with you today? Your always paying attention and participating in class. But today you're in like wonderland for something.”

I look over at Xander and he was looking at me. Then I looked at the teacher and said, “Oh it’s nothing. I just uh, didn’t get much sleep I guess.”

After class Xander went up to Stella and said, “Okay, I know you said that you didn’t get sleep, but I know you and you know that I know you. So just be straight up honest with me what’s wrong?”

In Stellas head she thought, “Faith never seems to care about me this much, or ever even check on me.”

“Hello? Earth to Ste-”

“Please promise me that you won’t get mad at me and this won’t change anything between us.” Stella said desperately.

“Yes. I promise. Since when have I ever been mad at you? I really never have.” He laughed.

Stella paused for a minute before saying anything. Then a tear rolled down her face while she said, “ I really like your sister, like a lot. And I told her, and she didn’t like me back. And now I think she’s avoiding me, and I need to tell her something else that’s very important.”

Xander’s face wasn’t really mad or sad, well maybe a little touch of sadness and said, “ I had a feeling you did. I can tell by the way you look at her and how you talk to her. Your eyes brighten when she’s around, your mood changes completely, and you just get so happy when your around her.”

Stella thought to herself, “Does he look at me a lot or something to be able to notice all that?”

He paused then added on to what he said, “Did you know when I first moved here you were my first friend here? When I first saw you, I had this good feeling about you even though we didn’t know each other. And I remember that first day I took a quick look at everyone in the room, but you caught my eye. And I kind of just stood there like a fool, and I could tell you were uncomfortable, I felt so embarrassed!”

They both laughed.

Then he also added, “That’s the day you also met my sister. When I saw you look at her you were blushing so much, and some reason it made me feel weird, so I went to class early that day.”

“Omg was I that red!” Stella almost yelled.

“Yeah. And remember all the times we hung out over these months, all the pictures with memories in them, just everything?”

“Yeah, why are you bringing everything up like all this up so randomly?” She asked.

He paused then replied, “Because I’ve never met anyone like you and I’m so thankful to have you in my life.”

Stella started feeling those feelings she had with Faith, all the feelings she’s had for her. Then Stella startedthinking, “Faith never took any time to say nice things like this to me, she never really cared about what I wanted, she only really cared if it was something traumatic that happened to me. On the other hand, Xander always makes time for me, he always tries to make me happy for whatever reason, he’s always there for me, and he helps me with almost everything.” She realized, Faith is not a need, she could live without her. Faith is just a want, she’s like a want that’s not good for you but you still want it anyway. Xander, is now a want and need. He was the one always there for her when she needed someone not Faith.

“HELLO” Xander yelled, “You’ve been standing there in space for like two minutes straight. And I need to tell you something.”

“I need to tell you something too. Let’s both say it on three.” Stella said.

“1”

“2”

“3”

Stella said, “I’m moving.” Xander said, “I like you.”

They both stared at each other. Xander with tears in his eyes. Stella just in shock.

“What! Why?! When!? You can’t leave us! Please no!” Xander broke down.

Stella said, “ I don’t know why, I’m leaving after school." crying she said, “I don’t want to leave you all either! You both made me so strong! And I realized, I don’t need Faith, I just want her, but the more I think I don’t really want her now. Only as friends, best friends. And I need you, and I also want you. As friends, best friends, and more than friends!”

Before he could say anything, Stella took off running as fast as she could trying to find Faith. Just to tell her that she’s moving. When Stella found Faith, she ran up to her and said, “Faith I’m mov-” That’s about all Faith heard before she ran away from Stella. Stella tried saying she was moving throughout the day, but she would always run off before she could finish, so Stella tried saying something shorter like, “goodbye” so maybe Faith could hear that and ask her what she means by, “goodbye” but it didn’t work, Stella kept getting interrupted by Faiths other friends, so she spent the rest of her time with Xander.

“Wait so she won’t even bother to listen to you?”

Stella shook her head.

They both sat there in the silence for a few minutes in her room, they were waiting for her mom to say, “it’s time to go.”

Then Xander asked, “So do you actually like me? Do you really want to be more than friends”?

Stella hesitates, “yes I do like you. And yes, I want to be more than friends. I just don’t feel like it’s a good idea, I’ll be four hours away from you.”

“The distance? I mean it’s just a number.” he said with a smile, “can we just give it a try? And if you don’t like it, or if it isn’t working, whatever it is it can stop if that’s what you want.” Xander said softly.

“Hey! It’s time to go!”

They looked at each other like the world was ending. Then Stella gave him and big hug and said, “yes, let’s give it a shot.”

Then she ran downstairs and out her door, as she gets in the car, she watches Xander standing there smiling, but knows he’s hurting. She waves at him. Then the car starts pulling out of the driveway. They both watch each other until them out of each other’s site. Stella thought that if this isn’t one of the worst feeling in the world, then she doesn’t know what is. Stella pulled out her phone and texted Xander, “at least we can still face time each other :)”

Then she went to call Faith, surprisingly she answered then quickly Stella tries to say, “I’m movi-” but Faith hangs up then she tried texting her saying goodbye, but her phone died right before she could send it. I hope they will be okay without me.

The next day at, Xander and Faiths school.

“Hey Xander, have you seen Stella at all today? I’ve been trying to find her to tell her sorry because something happened between us yesterday.”

Xander said, “Oh I know exactly what happened. I’m saying this for her since you wouldn’t listen to her. She’s moving and she wanted to say bye.”
