I'm coming Mandy!

The two school friends is on their way to a day out at the beach

Driving down Adderley Street in the beautiful Cape Town, they are both over excited to be together after a few years apart.

Mandy married her partner Dave, whom she is daring now over six years and they are still going strong

Carol on the other hand have a secret; a very big stupid secret

"I can't share my stupid secret with Mandy". She will make fun of me and that will spoil my thoughts!

"A penny for your thoughts Carol"

Oh you will be very poor if it was worth a penny Mandy, Carol says to her best friend

"If you say so, but I could swear you were a thousand miles away just mow"

Carol parks her red Golf GOT in a parking and the two takes their cooler bag, umbrella and all the other belongings from the booth

Mandy we are only spending a day at the beach, not a month!

Mandy laughs at Carol as she takes out her three bags stuffed with all the sweet things and juices for the day

A few minutes later the two girls falls down on their bright towels with printed animations

Carol and Mandy have their last juice before packing up; their bodies exhausted and sensitive from the suburbs

Both takes a cold shower and heads straight for bed

It's early morning when Carol is busy in the kitchen preparing her long deserved holiday in Port Elizabeth

Good morning Carol!

I see you are up early and ready for the long three weeks holiday

Yes I can't wait to spend the days at a beautiful beach with the most beautiful sunsets

Soon Carol is ready and on her way to her holiday

The sun is scorching hot and the road makes her feel warm and sticky; a weather she just do not like

Oh no! What sound was that now

She pulls over and walks around the car to see what could be wrong

She noticed her wheel is punctured and water is leaking underneath the car

No! I can't even change a wheel, what more about a water leak

She puts her hands on her head, closing her eyes for a few seconds, hoping that when she opens it the wheel will be fixed and so the water leak

She slowly opens her eyes and noticed the same problem is waiting for her to be fixed.

Damn stupid car! I should have traded you when I had the chance

She goes on her knees and looks underneath the car

James wipes the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hands

He noticed a red sporty Gold on the side of the road

He pulls over behind the car and walks over to the drivers side and notices something very strange

"The behind of a female"

He stands in silence for a while, looking at the car trying to figure out what might be the problem

"Good day" he says in a bass voice

Carol realizes someone, a man is there and reverses her from underneath the car and bumps her head

She opens her mouth as she looks at this tall blond headed handsome Adam infront of her!

Can I help you? This is a very dangerous road to be stucked on; especially for a beuti...."he paused and says for a female"

Donny don't remember me!

Yes I'm struggling with a leak and as you can see a flat tyre

James walks to his sporty silver Mercedes Benz and quickly changes her wheel; " you can fill the water, but have to repair your watermark or tour engine might seize

He places the jack back in his booth and greets her

"Thank you very much for helping me"

He gets in his car and slowly drives past her as he smiles

"Why is he smiling"?

She gets back in her car and looks in the mirror, her face is smudged with black marks from scratching underneath her car

She wipes it clean and places the key in the ignition

She cruises down the road as she sips on her icy cold water from her cooler bag on the back seat

"James don't remember her at all; Come on James, the movie is about to begin"

Many years ago they had a one and only date to the movies

How can he not remembered?

I did not changed that much!

Excitedly she drives to her designation and books in at the Protea hotel and takes the lift to the second floor

She is well rested and feeling fresh after her showers and short rest in her hotel room

She walks to the balcony and sits on a dark wooden bench

She looks over the blue sea and then down to where the other guests is relaxing at the pool, while enjoying the sunset

Her mouth falls open as she notices someone, once again!

"It's James"!

What is he doing here?

Did he followed me?

Ofcourse not Carol! "How could he if he left before you"

She is confused as he don't remembers her, she thinks sadly

She observes James as he takes a dive into the water and swims down to the steps. He wraps the towel around his sexy waist, while his long fingers makes sure his hair is still on his head; moving his fingers through his blond strands

She moves forward to inspect every move that he makes

A warmth comes up from the bottom of her spine moving into her neck

"She wants to join him at the pool, but he don't remembers her"

At seven she walks down to the area where everyone is welcome to enjoy a light supper

A white teeth waiter escorts her to a corner table where he pulls out the chair for her to be seated

She sits on the soft while cushion as the waiter pours her a glass of water

Thank you that will be all; please bring me a soda water with the meal

James walks in and sits on the other corner from where Carol sits

She is watching his every move

"I think I am inlove"

Oh stop with the inlove thoughts Carol

He don't even remembers you!

"She enjoys her supper in silence with a Kenny G in the background"

She takes a walk outside in the garden before she decides to turn in

The summer offers a soft cool breeze over her body and her long hair is hanging lose over her shoulder; while playing with the wind

The next day will be valentine!

Suddenly Carol feels alone and a little on the sad side

The entire pool area is decorated with red and white balloons

Red roses is spreader in the pathway and the atmosphere is loved

She plans to prepare a surprised supper for her and James

She rushes down to the kitchen where she speaks to the manager; the plan is in action and the waiter is booked for a special table for her and James

She takes a shower; getting ready for her surprised date with James, but first she needs to go see if everything is in order in the kitchen before getting dressed

James answers the knock on his door

Sir you are summoned to a surprised dinner at table number thirteen at seven tonight; your guest is a Valentine surprise

James smiles and closes the door; looking at his watch it is in exactly three hours

"Who can the surprised guest be"?

He goes to the shower and welcomes the cool water over his well build body

James cannot guess who the person is inviting him to a Valentine dinner

"After Mary left him for Trevor has he never been in a relationship"

"Love is just too confusing for me"

Carol looks at herself in the mirror for one last time after fifteen times before

She enters the dining room and takes a seat at her table

The waiter sis a very good job with the table, now just for James to enter and recognizing her!

James walks in and looks at the numbers on the side of the tables and notices table number thirteen

He smiles as he recognizes the lady sitting st the red and white balloons decorated table

Carol noticed James is smiling and excitedly smiles back at him as he approaches her

"He remembers me!"

She reaches out her tiny hands to handshake him

So you remembered? She excitedly says with a soft voice

"Ofcourse I remember"

Please have a seat

James sits at the table and smiles at her

Carol is the happiest girl alive! "He finally remembers me"

So did you fixed your water leak of the car?

Oh! Yes I had it fixed

She realizes James don't remembers her from school days; only of the day she struggles with her car

Suddenly she is not hungry

Should she tell him who she is?

Why the sudden silence lady

"What is your name or is our identity going to remain a secret"

"Oh, I'm James Cunningham"

Carol is not sure if she wants him to know her name and hopes the evening is over sop so that she can be in her room, with herself

"I'm Carol White"

So you are not from here I take it?

"No I'm from Cape Town"

I'm from Port Elizabeth since ages ago, when my mom passed away

My dad moved here and I am the only child

Carol is no longer interest in James and her evening is a dull atmosphere

They eats a divine supper in silence

James looks at her as she pours the red wine

She looked at him and gets up

It is not a problem at all James, she whispers as she reaches for her silver sling bag

She walks away and decides to take the stairs to clear her mind

He looks at her as she walks away

Carol is on her bed and the tears freely roll down her soft skin face

"What a fool I have been to have this stupid Valentine dinner"

She wipes her tears and starts packing her bags

Early the next morning she have a coffee in the dining room and signs out

She slowly drives down the road, the early morning breeze is perfect as the road is still long

James is at the front desk

"Can I help you sir"

Yes, in which room is Carol White

"Oh I'm afraid she signed out this morning sir"

"She what"?

"She signed out sir"

Did she say why?

"No sir, but she seemed sad"

"It's all my fault"!

He walks back to his room on the third floor and don't realize that he took the stairs and not the escalater

Carol stops at a pitstop to stretch her legs and to grab a take away for the road

Her Valentine has tumbles down on her

"I will grow old and grey on my own"
