Cleo and Fudge

Written in response to: "Write about an animal who causes a huge problem."

"Good night Cleo," whispered His mother, Becky. "I will see you in the morning," Cleo looked at her with tired eyes, grasping his white, red ribboned teddy bear, Fudge tightly to him. " Aren't you forgetting something?" He asked in a fatigued voice. He gestured towards Fudge. "Oh, yes, and good night to you too, Fudge," She said understanding what he meant. Cleo smiled at her. "Good, night mom," and with that, he fell to his pillow, and didn't remember the rest of the night. He dreamed that him and Fudge were on an important mission to save the world, Ozkod. It was very dangerous, but fit for them. They ended up destroying the purple and blue aliens, and saving everyone on the planet. When he awoke the next morning, it was 10:00, and he still lay in the same position as that night, holding Fudge on his dinosaur pillow. He got out of his rickety bunk bed that he shared with his younger 5 year old brother, Oliver. He was still in bed, snoring as loud as ever. "Sometimes," he thought, "I don't understand how I sleep, ever," He nodded his head out of the room, still holding Fudge tightly by it's soft, small paw. Once he got out of the room, Cleo stopped walking and looked down at his stuffed friend, and said, "I'm glad you don't snore," In that very moment, Fudge seemed to smile, and say, "me too," Cleo jumped. He wasn't expecting a response. He pinched himself, making sure this wasn't another weird dream. He didn't wake up. Cleo rubbed his arm in pain at how hard he pinched, but suddenly remembered why he did it. He stared in awe at Fudge, confused. "You can talk? Like you can actually talk?" This time, Cleo was expecting an answer. After around one minute of him not answering back, he realized he must have just been hearing things. "That was so weird," he thought to himself, and kept on walking shaking his head. When he got downstairs, he saw his mom cooking a breakfast consisting of perfectly fried bacon, splendidly scrambled eggs, and wonderfully flipped pancakes. "Hi mom!" he cheerfully yelled at her over the noise of the cracking, frying, and sizzling of the food cooking. She turned around, and smiled, seeing Cleo. "Hi! How did you sleep?" She asked still cooking the food. "Good," He answered. "But this morning, something rea-" He looked down. something made him caught off guard. He could feel something moving in his grasp of Fudge. When he saw what is was, he squealed. Fudge, the adorable small fuzzy stuffed bear had now turned into a not so small adorable bear. It was slowly growing bigger, and bigger, also growing real bear-like features. He dropped him to the floor. "AHHH!" he screamed at the sight of his once teddy bear. "What is it?!" His mother asked startled at the sight of Cleo. "What's wrong?!" "Di-didn't you see-see that?" He stuttered pointing at the massive bear. "What are you talking about? All I saw was you screaming, and dropping Fudge! You really need to be nicer to him!" She answered. "What are you talking about? Can't you see?! He turned into a real live bear!" Yelled Cleo in fear. "Are you feeling okay? You do look pale..." But Cleo stopped her from finishing the sentence. "No! I don't think any of us should be okay, because of what we just saw!" Cleo was astonished that she didn't understand what he was telling her. He was still pointing at the bear in front of him. He screamed again. Fudge, the live bear, was now beginning to move closer, and closer to to Cleo, smiling. "AAAAHHHHHH! SOMEONE HELP ME! I"M ABOUT TO GET EATEN! MOM SAVE ME! SAVE ME!" "Cleo! For the last time! What is going on?! Okay. That's it. You need to go back to bed. You must have a fever!" she stared at him in fear something was wrong with her child. "But, but bu-t..." he just looked at her, pointing at the massive bear. "Cleo, come on, let's get back into bed." She pointed to the stairs. Cleo and her began walking up. Cleo though, was doing it a bit differently than his mom. He was using his mother as a shield, to keep away from being his stuffed animal's lunch. "Don't forget to grab Fudge, or else you might not be able to fall asleep," She said behind her back to him. Cleo stopped in his tracks and just stared at her in fear. Do you want me to be eaten?! What have you been planning? Are you and Fudge working together?! I DON'T WANT TO BE JAM!" His mother was abashed at what was happening. She had no words for how confused she was. "Just, get into bed, with Fudge, or not! I'm worried about you!" After a little while, he got into bed, and finally fell asleep. Cleo was dreaming about being a burrito, a taco, and many other foods. He was asleep for about 5 hours, when he suddenly awoke. He was dreaming about being drizzled in a sauce, when he woke up. When he opened his eyes, though he realized it was definitely not sauce. Something was drooling on him. "No," he whispered. "NO!" It was Fudge, smiling down at him, with his big teeth. "What do you want from me, beast?!" Squealed Cleo. "I don't know why you are so scared, Cleo, it's just me!" exclaimed the bear in a nice, happy cheerful tone looking at him with his big, blue eyes. "Wait, so you're not going to eat me?" Cleo asked. "No! Where did you ever get that idea?! All I want is to be snuggled with, like the usual!" Fudge still looked at him, but confused now. "Will you turn normal if I snuggle with you?" asked Cleo. "I don't know what you are talking about, but sure!" Said Fudge. Cleo cautiously began to go around the massive bear. Instantly, Fudge was a normal stuffed bear again, with stuffed animal like qualities. "That was weird," He said. But right after that, he began growing again............. "NO! NO! NO! NO!" Cleo didn't want to go through this again.
