Romance Teens & Young Adult High School

She sat alone, holding a cup of hot cocoa while watching the falling snow. Taking a sip from her warm mug, a pair of arms wrapped around her.

"Come back to bed, it's early," the groggy voice said.

"I will soon. I just want to watch the snow."

"Honey it's freezing," he argued.

"Yes, and I said I will soon."

He kisses the back of her head. She never listens to him but he still loved her. He always has, the moment they met in high school. He could never take his eyes off of her. He rests his head on top of her head and pouts.

"Still stubborn for your age huh?"

"And you're still clingy for you old man," she said with a slight smile.

She was always a force to be reckoned with. Although both of them have grown old and have grandchildren. They still act as if they are still the same lovestruck teenagers they once were. Of course, their love for each other will never burn out.

"You're so mean. I thought you loved me?"

"Oh grow up, weren't you the one chasing me since I was 15 and you were 17?"

"But who won in the end?" He smiled proudly while showing his wedding band.

She rolled her eyes and scoffed, taking another sip of hot cocoa. They met by accident, pure coincidence. They never believed in fate but this was far from it. High school was something they'll never be able to experience again, but it will be something to reminisce and remember forever. He was her first love, her first relationship, her first everything.

When they first met in that geometry class, she did not like him at all. He was flirty and smug. She detested him yet that didn't stop him from trying.

Even though he's been in relationships before, there was something about her that won him over. She didn't have to say a word, he just knew she would be someone special. Her annoyed faces, her comebacks, her shyness whenever he compliments her. He loved all of her.

The experience he had from his previous relationships, he believed that would work on her. He was very much wrong...yet right at the same time. Although she acted as if she was unaffected by his smooth pick up lines and suggestive remarks, on the inside she was burning up. No one had ever treated her that way. Such small words like "you're cute" were able to make her want to hideaway. She felt embarrassed and she didn't enjoy that feeling.

Eventually, she surrendered to him. A girl can only handle being given a rose every day for two weeks straight before saying yes. The first few weeks were awkward (mostly for her) but they still had fun regardless. He gave her everything she thought she wouldn't have. From their time of being stupid young teenagers to him proposing on one knee after her college graduation to them having their very first child. He was her first for everything and she wouldn't trade anything for less.

She smiled to herself, lost in her daydream of their time together. He noticed.

"Whatcha thinking about shortcake?"

She turns to face him, she puts down her mug on the coffee table.

"Nothing much, just..."

"Just?" He tucks a piece of her hair behind her ear.

She looks up to face him. Her height never did get taller after graduation.

"Just thinking about old times. That's all."

He smiles softly, wrinkles creasing near his eyes. He pats her head gently before giving her a hug.

"Ah! What's with the sudden hug?" She yelped.

"You're just cute even as an old little lady." He embraces her tighter.

"Yeah and this 'little old lady' will die from suffocation if you hug me any tighter." She struggled to free herself from his bear hug. Very unfortunate to be 5'2 with a husband that's over 6 feet.

He frowns but is quickly replaced by a smile when he sees her furrowed brows.

"You're gonna get more wrinkles if you keep doing that." He stabs her glabella with his forefinger. "Don't want my little lady to get more wrinkles."

She hits him softly with her hand with an irritated look. He laughs at her cuteness. Nothing will ever change between them. No matter how many times he irritates her. No matter how many times she won't listen to him. They'll stick to each other until the very end. After all, that's what they promised. That's what he promised her when they first went out, "we'll be together forever." Nothing will change that, nothing ever will.

He waited for so long for her to say yes. It came off as a complete shock when he learned that she never went out with anyone before. For she was the most beautiful and astonishing woman he's ever seen. A storm that took over his heart, he let himself get caught. He tried everything to win her over. He asked her best friend what her interests were, what she liked, her favorite food. He wanted--no, he needed to know everything about her. He thought he knew everything about love because of his past relationships but that changed. When they met, she had a fiery spirit. Nothing could get past her, she would never go down without a fight. He admired that about her, so much so he had to hold her back most of the time. Still, he loved her regardless.

The moment she said yes, he wanted to cry and scream out of pure joy. Twice. When she said yes to them going out during high school and when she said yes to his proposal. He could finally say "she's mine!" to the universe. No one will be able to take her away, he's in her heart and she's in his.

"Hey shortcake," he says softly.

"Yeah?" She tilts her head to the side.

"I love you."

"I love you too.., you Green Giant."
