Another night with my nightmares. It’s been a month since they started, and I’ve had one every night since then. It’s always different, but yet somehow the same.

It starts out with me waking up somewhere new each time, sometimes I’ll be in a bedroom, a field, an alley, and so on. As I wake up, I look around not seeing or hearing anyone. It’s as if I’m alone like I’m the only one left in the world. Scared by this I start to walk around in search of someone, anyone. I never find anyone though.

As I give up, I start to sit down to try and figure out how I got here and what happened. Suddenly, I hear a deafening scream! I run towards the sound. I run and run for what feels like an eternity until I finally see her.

She looks to be about the same age as me. When she sees me, she stops screaming, she doesn’t say anything or even move. She just stares. Unmoving and silent. I try to come closer to her but with every step, I take she moves further away. I begin to run towards her only to be running in place never reaching her.

I keep running and running, reaching out for her. She reaches out for me and then…. there’s a loud boom and everything goes black. I wake up in a cold sweat, heart racing, air hard to grasp.

Who is that girl, why can’t I reach her, what happens to us, and more importantly why do I keep having these dreams?

I had the dream again, but tonight it was different. It started out the same as it had all the other times. I wake up somewhere not knowing where I am. I get up and search for someone, anyone only to realize I’m alone. As I give up and start to sit down, the screaming starts. This time when I reach her and she stops screaming, she looks at me and says, “The river.”

“The river.” “The river.” “The river.”

She keeps repeating it over and over again while I try to run to her, reaching out once again only to have the loud boom and blackness take me away, take me back to reality.

The river…what did she mean?

I’ve done some research on this area and found that there is only one river that runs through here, Scout River. There’s a creek almost the size of a river that runs off of Scout River, and that’s Pint Creek. I’ve decided to explore both of these places tomorrow morning. I don’t know what I’m looking for, but it can’t hurt to look.

This morning I went to Scout River and walked along with it until I reached the county line. I didn’t find anything or see anything out of the ordinary. I wasn’t able to go to Pint Creek, because the bridge leading to it had been washed away by a stream. I didn’t expect to find anything or see anything out of the ordinary there anyway. Maybe what she said in the dream didn’t mean anything. Maybe these dreams mean nothing at all and are exactly just that, dreams.

Once again, I had the same dream, I woke up as usual not knowing where I was. I try looking for someone, anyone only to realize I am alone. As I give up and start to sit down, I hear the scream. I run to her and once she sees me, she stops, looks at me, and says, “The river”.

“The river.” “The river.” “The river.”

It’s the only thing she says as I run towards her reaching out for her until the loud boom and darkness take over. I don’t know what to do about these dreams.

I’ve had the dream every night since the last entry. Nothing in the dream has changed. I wake up, look for someone, try to figure out what happened, hear the scream, run to her, “The river”, and the loud boom and darkness. There has to be some reason why I am having these dreams. I’m going to go back to Scout River tomorrow, there has to be something I’m missing.

I went back to Scout River and again nothing. But I did decide to go back to Pint Creek and found a way over the stream without using the bridge. It took some time, but I finally made it and as I got closer to the creek, I was met with a tall fence that had barb wire on the top. From the looks of it, the fence stretched for miles both ways. I’ll go back tomorrow as early as possible to get to the fence and figure a way over or under it.

Nothing has changed from the dreams. I have to understand what they mean!

I made it back to the fence today and realized that the best way to get passed it would be to dig my way under. As the sun was starting to set, I had finally dug deep enough so I could crawl under the fence to the other side. As I started to crawl under, I heard men yelling, footsteps coming closer, and howling in the distance. Scared of what was evidentially making its way quickly towards me, I crawled back to the other side and ran as fast as I could to the stream, making my way across and never looking back. I know I need to understand what these dreams mean and why I am having them, but I also need to worry about my safety as well.

I had a new dream tonight! Instead of waking up somewhere alone, I woke up with the girl on top of me yelling for me to wake up.

“WAKE UP!” “WAKE UP!”

As I try to look around, I could hear what sounds like a war going on, but I don’t see anyone or anything other than the girl.

“YOU HAVE TO SAVE US!” “SAVE US!” “SAVE US!”

As I open my mouth to speak, I hear the loud boom and then there’s darkness. I still don’t know who she is or what she needs to be saved from, but I know the answers lie over that fence and I have to go back!
