Fiction Mystery Suspense

Ross was panting and struggling. He felt like his soul was ripped off his body. He woke up screaming which startled the nurse. He struggled to breathe and was scared out of wits but he didn’t know why. That emotion passed in a moment and he realized that he was in a hospital but weirdly, the screaming didn’t stop. He turned right to see the nurse screaming. He tried to recollect what had brought him here but his mind was as blank as a white board. Suddenly his brain stared working and showed him something which was so strong emotionally. He was kissing a beautiful girl. She was shorter than usual but so cute. She had hair like a long black river and when he looked at her, he forgot himself, but now, he literally forgot about himself. Then the image faded. He knew there was something about this girl but he didn’t know what. He knew one thing for sure, he needed to find her. He came back to reality and he was alone in the room. Ross was about to get up as a doctor came in, introduced himself as Dr. Benjamin and started telling the things Ross already knew, for instance the fact that his memory was gone. But Ross wasn’t listening to the man; he was rather sensing something seriously bad was going on with this Benjamin guy once he saw him. Once everyone left Ross alone, he decided to flee. Yeah, getting bad vibes from someone is usual and doesn’t require such severe actions and he would’ve stayed there and enjoyed the morning breakfast, but he had a purpose, to find the cute girl (He knows its a little cliché and most of the movie stars do the same, but now he understood why). He ran away from the hospital and as he was on the run he started remembering calling the girl’s name by Donna and started remembering a series of numbers and guessed it was probably her phone number. He was suddenly being chased by a group of people and he reassured himself that they were just a few docs and cute little nurses chasing him but the black dresses and guns in their hands proved otherwise. He started sprinting and suddenly he checked his pocket to find a phone. He took a right and went inside a big park and took several turns until he was sure to a certain level that he won’t be dead for the next few minutes. He then dialed the numbers that flashed his brain but it was showing busy each and every time he dialed. But then another number popped up and he got a little confused. Then he checked the phone to realize that he had been dialing his own phone number till now. “Stupid brain” he told himself and dialed the new number and after a few rings, he heard the word “Hello?” and at that moment, all his worries seemed to disappear.

“Is it Donna?” Ross asked.

“Yes, and who are you?” She asked.

Ross introduced himself and explained about his “visions” and the fact that a mini militia is currently man-hunting him. Finally he asked her “could you come here? I need to see you.”

There was a long pause. Then she replied “Yes. Share your location”.

After a few minutes, Donna showed up and first moment, he sensed pleasantness when he saw her and that moment was rapidly overthrown by the adrenaline as he saw a group of black ops soldiers showed up behind her. He felt betrayed but when she turned around and was as surprised as Ross was. Then he sensed a wave of relief and ran towards her, grabbed her hand and started running.

As they were on the move, he started remembering his house but a bitter feeling came along with it. He blacked out and went back inside his brain. He was in a tux and there were two coffins lying in front of him. He thought it would be that f him and Donna. But it was much worse; he was attending the funeral of his parents. He knew that he was in his mind and it wasn’t real, but everything seemed so vivid that it was like seeing a glimpse of the future. He came back and now Donna was carrying him and running. Under other circumstances, it would’ve been romantic, but not now. He got back to his toes and told that he knew a place.

“You would be exhausted, can I carry you now?” Ross asked, smiling sheepishly. His humor didn’t leave him even if his memory did.

Donna scowled and replied “Seriously?”

“Okay, I’ll take it as a no” told Ross and the both started running like characters from the ‘temple run’ game.

Ross was deep inside his thoughts and finally it occurred to him. He needed to get back to the hospital to end this chaos. He didn’t know why, but from the start, he felt that his instincts were so true and he could count on in: and now he had a gut feeling that he must go back to the place where all this chaos started. He took another route and went back to the hospital. Now, the angry mob (mob here means a group of professional killers) were just a hundred meters away from the two. They saw two enter the hospital and followed them.

As Ross and Donna were about to enter the room where Ross was admitted, they heard Dr. Benjamin talking on the phone and ordering someone on the phone to kill Ross. The both stormed inside and pushed down the doc. Ross asked what was behind all this while they started hearing footsteps approaching.

Donna asked “Ross, do you trust me?”

He replied “of course Donna, but is this an ideal time for romance?”

Donna looked a bit irritated and told “Ross, we need to jump off the window in 3 seconds”.

“No Donna, but…” Ross suddenly blacked out and this time, time seemed to stretch for him. He remembered a shower of bullets piercing through him and Donna. He knew what he had to do; trust Donna.

He grabbed her hand and the two jumped off the window as bullets pierced through Dr. Benjamin. How did Ross know that the doc was dead? Apparently the two landed on an open truck which was loaded with trampolines. So Ross and Donna bounced back and got to see the amazing fireworks of bullets. As the two finally finished their mini Disneyland rides on the trampolines, Ross looked down to see his Dad waving at him and smiling in the driver’s seat.

Now, Ross understood. He turned and started talking “Donna, there is something I need to… ”

“I know” Donna interrupted “You remember only the future. Thank you for trusting me.”

Ross stammered, clearly confused “But how do you know?”

“Even I remember only the future, before you” Donna replied.

There was dead silence for a long time. And then everything started to make sense.

It was Donna who informed Ross’s dad to park a trampoline truck as she already saw what was happening. She also knew that they would be dead if they didn’t jump off the window. Thank the angels that he trusted her.

He started to talk but she shushed him and started kissing him.

He realized a few things. He remembered the future from the farthest to the closest (although he remembered kissing Donna pretty soon but he thought that it was a rather strong memory which resurfaced pretty soon). So, he experienced or”remembered” the death of his parents, kissing Donna for the first time and most importantly, the moment he struggled and was scared to death as he was waking up in the hospital, he actually remembered his death.

Ross made a mental note, “always love your parents. And trust Donna no matter what happens.” Until he could remember, but will he?
